Book The Travelling Concepts of Narrative

Download or read book The Travelling Concepts of Narrative written by Mari Hatavara and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2013-06-15 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narrative is a pioneer concept in our trans-disciplinary age. For decades, it has been one of the most successful catchwords in literature, history, cultural studies, philosophy, and health studies. While the expansion of narrative studies has led to significant advances across a number of fields, the travels for the concept itself have been a somewhat more complex. Has the concept of narrative passed intact from literature to sociology, from structuralism to therapeutic practice or to the study of everyday storytelling? In this volume, philosophers, psychologists, literary theorists, sociolinguists, and sociologists use methodologically challenging test cases to scrutinize the types, transformations, and trajectories of the concept and theory of narrative. The book powerfully argues that narrative concepts are profoundly relevant in the understanding of life, experience, and literary texts. Nonetheless, it emphasizes the vast contextual differences and contradictions in the use of the concept.

Book Travelling Concepts in the Humanities

Download or read book Travelling Concepts in the Humanities written by Mieke Bal and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2002-11-02 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attempting to bridge the gap between specialised scholarship in the humanistic disciplines and an interdisciplinary project of cultural analysis, Mieke Bal has written an intellectual travel guide that charts the course 'beyond' cultural studies. As with any guide, it can be used in a number of ways and the reader can follow or willfully ignore any of the paths it maps or signposts. Bal's focus for this book is the idea that interdisciplinarity in the humanities - necessary, exciting, serious - must seek its heuristic and methodological basis in concepts rather than its methods. Concepts are not grids to put over an object. The counterpart of any given concept is the cultural text or work or 'thing' that constitutes the object of analysis. No concept is meaningful for cultural analysis unless it helps us to understand the object better on its own terms. Bal offers the reader a sustained theoretical reflection on how to 'do' cultural analysis through a tentative practice of doing just that. This offers a concrete practice to theoretical constructs, and allows the proposed method more accessibility. Book excerpt: "In due course of time—perhaps a few million years hence—no further evidence of the star which once shone so brightly, will exist ….. While millions, nay billions of other such stars shall continue to shine; in countless and unending galaxies and solar systems of the universe! However, this particular 'series of explosions' further created countless more billions of nuclear explosions; combined with greater devastating proton explosions -- within that star. It measured many times larger than our own sun existing inside our solar system. These explosions continue till today and are not rare to find. Such celestial events occur all of a sudden and leave no trace of their origin or presence in unmapped star walks of our universe. These explosions are also termed as highly resonating super magnetic fields. .....Therefore people, this particular natural explosion of the now extinct star named 'double star hexagon', actually created an "Dimensional Effect." Now, unseen, unheard and bypassing registered, chartered and mapped star walks—even undetected by computer assisted radio-light telescopic radars—such high resonating super magnetic fields occur in almost all known galaxies. Here, I state 'occur' because there exists no other justifiable terminology for expressing this sequence of solar events. My predecessors in the thirtieth century of earth time had brought in irrational theories then! However, earth records provide direct access to their theorized papers. Audiovisual computerized data have proved very effective every now and then. …..You see, I am certain that a collapsing supernova--or a dying star whose inner core collapses totally in due course of elongated time limits-- creates certain unknown electronically induced magnetic fields. It is a star fading away to nothingness in the galaxies of our universe. Some visuals amongst extinct stars are deciphered and photographed by –now obsolete x ray machines. Our modern proton-backed batteries are capable of restructuring the entire series of events, as they must have occurred. In modern technology, we term allied occurrences and happenings as the supernova experience. Of course, you need highly developed computers to recapture such stellar scenes! Applying conventional hi tech methods however, render us incapable in mapping such progress in stellar limits…… Travel with interplanetary voyagers while they explain suspended animation methods applied for hyper deep space voyages. Probe deeper and enrich your i.q. learning about time continuum matters and another dimensional world in an different dimensional universe! A science fiction novella. Book Two. Beyond Time

One being the realm of shadows, where many different shades of darkness keep this vision at least interesting. It also outlines a complete archetypal structure of the unconscious. This image is crystallized and in incredible detail. Finally, this part of the mind is a root system. This allows for full emergence of its language. With four unique sub-features shown here as well. I wish for you to find this journey into the unconscious a great general overview.

Download or read book THE UNCONSCIOUS TRILOGY The Interpretation of Dreams Psychopathology of Everyday Life Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious written by Sigmund Freud and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-06-12 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Interpretation of Dreams is a book in which Freud introduces his theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation, and also first discusses what would later become the theory of the Oedipus complex, and it is widely considered one of his most important works. Dreams, in Freud's view, are all forms of wish fulfillment"— attempts by the unconscious to resolve a conflict of some sort, whether something recent or something from the recesses of the past. Psychopathology of Everyday Life is a work based on Freud's researches into slips and parapraxes from 1897 onwards, one which became perhaps the best-known of all his writings. Sometimes called the Mistake Book, the work became one of the scientific classics of the 20th century. Through its stress on what Freud called "switch words" and "verbal bridges", it is considered important for psychopathology. Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious is a book on the psychoanalysis of jokes and humor. In this work, Freud described the psychological processes and techniques of jokes, which he likened as similar to the processes and techniques of dream-work and the Unconscious. Freud claims that our enjoyment of the joke indicates what is being repressed in more serious talk. Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the father of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. In creating psychoanalysis, Freud developed therapeutic techniques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process.

Book Unconscious Christianity in Dietrich Bonhoeffer s Late Theology

Download or read book Unconscious Christianity in Dietrich Bonhoeffer s Late Theology written by Eleanor McLaughlin and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last years of his life, Dietrich Bonhoeffer began work on an idea that he called unbewußtes Christentum, "unconscious Christianity." While Bonhoeffer’s other ideas from this period have been extensively studied and are important in the field of theology and beyond, this idea has been almost completely ignored. For the first time in Bonhoeffer scholarship, Eleanor McLaughlin provides a definition of unconscious Christianity, based on a close reading and analysis of the texts in which Bonhoeffer mentioned the term. From a variety of surviving texts, from a scribbled marginal note in his Ethics manuscript to the fiction he wrote in prison, she constructs a detailed definition of unconscious Christianity that sheds light not only on Bonhoeffer’s late work but his theological development as a whole.

Book Invisible but how The depth of unconscious processing as inferred from different suppression techniques

Download or read book Invisible but how The depth of unconscious processing as inferred from different suppression techniques written by Julien Dubois and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To what level are invisible stimuli processed by the brain in the absence of conscious awareness? It is widely accepted that simple visual properties of invisible stimuli are processed; however, the existence of higher-level unconscious processing (e.g., involving semantic or executive functions) remains a matter of debate. Several methodological factors may underlie the discrepancies found in the literature, such as different levels of conservativeness in the definition of “unconscious” or different dependent measures of unconscious processing. In this research topic, we are particularly interested in yet another factor: inherent differences in the amount of information let through by different suppression techniques. In the same conditions of well-controlled, conservatively established invisibility, can we show that some of the techniques in the “psychophysical magic” arsenal (e.g., masking, but also visual crowding, attentional blink, etc.) reliably lead to higher-level unconscious processing than others (e.g., interocular suppression)? Some authors have started investigating this question, using multiple techniques in similar settings . We argue that this approach should be extended and refined. Indeed, in order to delineate the frontiers of the unconscious mind using a contrastive method, one has to disentangle the limits attributable to unawareness itself, and those attributable to the technique inducing unawareness. The scope of this research topic is to provide a platform for scientists to contribute insights and further experiments addressing this fundamental question.
