Download or read book Metropolitan Travel Forecasting written by National Research Council (U.S.). Committee for Determination of the State of the Practice in Metropolitan Area Travel Forecasting and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2007-10-18 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB Special Report 288, Metropolitan Travel Forecasting: Current Practice and Future Direction, examines metropolitan travel forecasting models that provide public officials with information to inform decisions on major transportation system investments and policies. The report explores what improvements may be needed to the models and how federal, state, and local agencies can achieve them. According to the committee that produced the report, travel forecasting models in current use are not adequate for many of today's necessary planning and regulatory uses.

Book Incorporating Feedback in Travel Forecasting

Download or read book Incorporating Feedback in Travel Forecasting written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most common method for producing regional or metropolitan area travel forecasts in the United States is to apply the following four modeling steps sequentially: trip generation; trip distribution; mode choice; and, route assignment. This traditional 4-step process passes output from one step to the next as input. While the process has produced forecast results sufficiently accurate for many types of long range transportation planning, it is commonly found that some of the outputs of the process are not consistent with inputs to earlier steps. The research undertaken in this project focused on methods to ensure that link speeds used in each step of the travel forecasting process are consistent with the final speeds estimated in the final step of the process. As a product of this research, a final report was prepared to provide guidance in the application of feedback.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 358: Statewide Travel Forecasting Models examines statewide travel forecasting models designed to address planning needs and provide forecasts for statewide transportation, including passenger vehicle and freight movements. The report explores the types and purposes of models being used, integration of state and urban models, data requirements, computer needs, resources (including time, funding, training, and staff), limitations, and overall benefits. The report includes five case studies, two that focus on passenger components, two on freight components, and one on both passenger and freight.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 735: Long-Distance and Rural Travel Transferable Parameters for Statewide Travel Forecasting Models explores transferable parameters for long-distance and rural trip-making for statewide models. Appendixes G, H, and I are not contained in print or PDF versions of the report but are available online. Appendix G presents a series of rural typology variables considered in stratifying model parameters and benchmarks and identifies the statistical significance of each. Appendix H contains rural trip production rates for several different cross-classification schemes and the trip rates associated with each. Finally, Appendix I provides additional information on auto occupancy rates."--Publisher's description.
