Book Global Agricultural Production Resilience to Climate Change

Download or read book Global Agricultural Production Resilience to Climate Change written by Mukhtar Ahmed and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers all aspects related to climate change and agriculture. The book discusses Global Climate Models (GCMs), Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) and application of strategic management tool that includes RCP (Representative concentration Pathway), SSP (Shared Socio-economic Pathways) and SPA (Shared climate Policy Assumptions). The book provides information on how climate change, agricultural productivity and food security are interlinked. The impacts of climate change on food security are studied through different climatic drivers e.g., ENSO (El Niño–Southern Oscillation) and SOI (Southern Oscillation Index). These drivers are responsible for the climatic extreme events hence early prediction of these drivers could help to design appropriate adaptive measures for the agriculture sector and could be considered as early warning tools for risk management. Similarly, climate change and process-based soil modeling as well as the role of soil microbes and climate smart agriculture are discussed in this book. Climate change impacts on legume crop production and adaptation strategies are presented, with details about cereal crop modeling, perspectives of Camelina sativa as well as low input biofuel and oilseed crop, greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions and mitigation strategies.

Book Sweet Reinforced and Fortified Wines

Download or read book Sweet Reinforced and Fortified Wines written by Fabio Mencarelli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wines from Grape Dehydration is the first of its kind in the field of grape dehydration - the controlled drying process which produces a special group of wines. These types of wine are the most ancient, made in the Mediterranean basin, and are even described in Herodotus. Until few years ago, it was thought that these wines – such as Pedro Ximenez, Tokai, Passito, and Vin Santo – were the result of simple grape drying, because the grapes were left in the sun, or inside greenhouses that had no controls over temperature, relative humidity or ventilation. But Amarone wine, one of the most prized wines in the world, is the first wine in which the drying is a controlled process. This controlled process – grape dehydration – changes the grape at the biochemical level, and involves specialist vine management, postharvest technology and production processes, which are different from the typical wine-making procedure. After a history of grape dehydration, the book is then divided into two sections; scientific and technical. The scientific section approaches the subjects of vineyard management and dehydration technology and how they affect the biochemistry and the quality compounds of grape; as well as vinification practices to preserve primary volatiles compounds and colour of grape. The technical section is devoted to four main classes of wine: Amarone, Passito, Pedro Ximenez, and Tokai. The book then covers sweet wines not made by grape dehydration, and the analytical/sensorial characteristics of the wines. A concluding final chapter addresses the market for these special wines. This book is intended for wineries and wine makers, wine operators, postharvest specialists, vineyard managers/growers, enology/wine students, agriculture/viticulture faculties and course leaders and food processing scientists

Book Latin American Viticulture Adaptation to Climate Change

Download or read book Latin American Viticulture Adaptation to Climate Change written by Gastón Gutiérrez Gamboa and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: Latin American viticulture faces a wide range of difficulties that include social, political, economic, and productive aspects. Soil diversity, together with the climates in which the viticulture activity takes place, favours the production of grapes, juices, raisins, musts, wines, and distillates with unique and distinctive characters for the world. In addition, the great genetic diversity that covers autochthonous and minor grapevine varieties, including unknown genotypes, opens a wide range of research opportunities for the adaptation of the viticulture to the negative effects of global warming, favouring sustainability and social equity. This book compiles the research about the new viticultural trends performed in diverse regions from Latin America such as Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Uruguay, covering different topics in viticulture of global importance. This book addresses the impacts of soil and climatic conditions and viticultural practices on vine physiology, berry quality and wine typicity, including topics related to social sciences and agricultural economics. This will allow to provide a relevant discussion for future guidelines in viticulture under a territorial development perspective

Book Handbook of Fruits and Fruit Processing

Download or read book Handbook of Fruits and Fruit Processing written by Nirmal K. Sinha and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-06-20 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HANDBOOK OF FRUITS AND FRUIT PROCESSING SECOND EDITION Fruits are botanically diverse, perishable, seasonal, and predominantly regional in production. They come in many varieties, shapes, sizes, colors, flavors, and textures and are an important part of a healthy diet and the global economy. Besides vitamins, minerals, fibers, and other nutrients, fruits contain phenolic compounds that have pharmacological potential. Consumed as a part of a regular diet, these naturally occurring plant constituents are believed to provide a wide range of physiological benefits through their antioxidant, anti-allergic, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Handbook of Fruits and Fruit Processing distils the latest developments and research efforts in this field that are aimed at improving production methods, post-harvest storage and processing, safety, quality, and developing new processes and products. This revised and updated second edition expands and improves upon the coverage of the original book. Some highlights include chapters on the physiology and classification of fruits, horticultural biochemistry, microbiology and food safety (including HACCP, safety and the regulation of fruits in the global market), sensory and flavor characteristics, nutrition, naturally present bioactive phenolics, postharvest physiology, storage, transportation, and packaging, processing, and preservation technologies. Information on the major fruits includes tropical and super fruits, frozen fruits, canned fruit, jelly, jam and preserves, fruit juices, dried fruits, and wines. The 35 chapters are organized into five parts: Part I: Fruit physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, nutrition, and health Part II: Postharvest handling and preservation of fruits Part III: Product manufacturing and packaging Part IV: Processing plant, waste management, safety, and regulations Part V: Production, quality, and processing aspects of major fruits and fruit products Every chapter has been contributed by professionals from around the globe representing academia, government institutions, and industry.
