Book Identified Particle Transverse Momentum Distributions from AU AU Collisions at 62 4 GeV Per Nucleon Pair

Download or read book Identified Particle Transverse Momentum Distributions from AU AU Collisions at 62 4 GeV Per Nucleon Pair written by Conor Henderson and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transverse momentum (PT) distributions for pions, kaons, protons and antiprotons have been measured near mid-rapidity for Au+Au collisions at sNN = 62.4 GeV using the PHOBOS detector at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) in Brookhaven National Laboratory. Particle identification is performed using the PHOBOS Time-of-Flight plastic scintillator walls and specific energy loss in the multi-layer silicon Spectrometer, which is also used for track reconstruction and momentum-determination. The spectra are corrected for all detector-dependent effects, including feed-down from weak decays. At PT 3 GeV/c, protons are measured to be the dominant species of charged hadrons and scale much faster with respect to collision centrality than mesons. This behaviour at 62.4 GeV is found to be remarkably similar to that observed in Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV, an interesting observation which should serve as an important constraint on the various mechanisms which have been proposed to describe particle production over this PT range. Baryon stopping, the transport of baryon number from intial beam rapidity, is explored through the net proton (p - p) yields at mid-rapidity. These results fill a large gap between the SPS and higher RHIC energies and as such form an important set of data for comparing to models of baryon transport mechanisms.

Book Rapidity and Species Dependence of Particle Production at Largetransverse Momentum for D Au Collisions at PsNN

Download or read book Rapidity and Species Dependence of Particle Production at Largetransverse Momentum for D Au Collisions at PsNN written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We determine rapidity asymmetry in the production of charged pions, protons and anti-protons for large transverse momentum (p{sub T}) for d+Au collisions at √s{sub NN} = 200 GeV. The rapidity asymmetry is defined as the ratio of particle yields at backward rapidity (Au beam direction or -ve rapidity) to those at forward rapidity (d beam direction or +ve rapidity). The identified hadrons are measured in the rapidity regions.

Book A Systematic Large Phase Space Study of Pion pi superscript Kaon K superscript and Proton p P Production in Au Au Heavy ion Collisions from the RHIC Beam Energy Scan Program at STAR

Download or read book A Systematic Large Phase Space Study of Pion pi superscript Kaon K superscript and Proton p P Production in Au Au Heavy ion Collisions from the RHIC Beam Energy Scan Program at STAR written by Christopher Edward Flores and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) was designed to explore the phase diagram of nuclear matter. In this document data collected using the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) during the BES program are used to study the production of pion (pi [superscript ±), kaon (K [superscript ±), and proton (p, p) across seven collision energies, [root s[subscript NN] = 7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27.0, 39.0, and 62.4 GeV. The results are presented differentially in nine centrality bins and over as broad a transverse mass and rapidity range as the detector capabilities allow. The yields of each particle species are first presented as transverse mass spectra. The spectra are then fit with spectral shapes to extract rapidity density distributions. Full phase space yields are also obtained for the case of the pion. These results help characterize the nature of the medium produced in heavy-ion collisions. In particular, the dependence of the medium's chemistry, expansion properties, and thermal condition on collision energy, event centrality, and kinematic phase space are now accessible using the results of this study.

Book Kaon Production and Kaon to Pion Ratio in Au Au Collisions at s sub NN

Download or read book Kaon Production and Kaon to Pion Ratio in Au Au Collisions at s sub NN written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mid-rapidity transverse mass spectra and multiplicity densities of charged and neutral kaons are reported for Au+Au collisions at √s{sub NN}=130 GeV at RHIC. The spectra are exponential in transverse mass, with an inverse slope of about 280 MeV in central collisions. The multiplicity densities for these particles scale with the negative hadron pseudo-rapidity density. The charged kaon to pion ratios are K/?− = 0.161 ± 0.002(stat) ± 0.024(syst) and K−/?− = 0.146 ± 0.002(stat) ± 0.022(syst) for the most central collisions. The K+/?− ratio is lower than the same ratio observed at the SPS while the K−/?− is higher than the SPS result. Both ratios are enhanced by about 50% relative to p+p and {bar p}+p collision data at similar energies.

Book Modification of K0s and Lambda AntiLambda Transverse Momentum Spectra in Pb Pb Collisions at sNN 2 76 TeV with ALICE

Download or read book Modification of K0s and Lambda AntiLambda Transverse Momentum Spectra in Pb Pb Collisions at sNN 2 76 TeV with ALICE written by Simone Schuchmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis offers an excellent, comprehensive introduction to the physics of the quark–gluon plasma. It clearly explains the connection between theory and experiment, making the topic accessible to non-specialists in this field. The experimental work, which contributes significantly to our understanding of the quark–gluon plasma, is described in great detail. The results described in the final chapters of the thesis provide interesting new ideas about the connection between proton-proton and Pb-Pb collisions. Simone Schuchmann received the 'ALICE Thesis Award 2016' for this excellent work.

Book What Can We Learn from P perpendicular Spectra in Heavy ion Collisions at the AGS

Download or read book What Can We Learn from P perpendicular Spectra in Heavy ion Collisions at the AGS written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive and semi-inclusive cross-sections for production of pions, kaons, and protons in Si+Al, Si+Cu, and Si+Au collisions, measured at the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass rapidity are presented. The functional forms of the spectra are discussed. The centrality dependence of the inverse m[perpendicular] slopes is shown. Deviations in the spectra from pure exponential-m[perpendicular] distributions are discussed. The effects of resonance decays on the shape of the pion spectra are studied using previously measured p-p data, Si+Al data from E802, and the ARC model.
