Book Chaotic Transitions in Deterministic and Stochastic Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Chaotic Transitions in Deterministic and Stochastic Dynamical Systems written by Emil Simiu and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-08 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classical Melnikov method provides information on the behavior of deterministic planar systems that may exhibit transitions, i.e. escapes from and captures into preferred regions of phase space. This book develops a unified treatment of deterministic and stochastic systems that extends the applicability of the Melnikov method to physically realizable stochastic planar systems with additive, state-dependent, white, colored, or dichotomous noise. The extended Melnikov method yields the novel result that motions with transitions are chaotic regardless of whether the excitation is deterministic or stochastic. It explains the role in the occurrence of transitions of the characteristics of the system and its deterministic or stochastic excitation, and is a powerful modeling and identification tool. The book is designed primarily for readers interested in applications. The level of preparation required corresponds to the equivalent of a first-year graduate course in applied mathematics. No previous exposure to dynamical systems theory or the theory of stochastic processes is required. The theoretical prerequisites and developments are presented in the first part of the book. The second part of the book is devoted to applications, ranging from physics to mechanical engineering, naval architecture, oceanography, nonlinear control, stochastic resonance, and neurophysiology.

Download or read book Dynamical Chaos written by Vadim Semenovich Anishchenko and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, bifurcational mechanisms of the development, structure and properties of chaotic attractors are investigated by numerical and physical experiments based on the methods of the modern theory of nonlinear oscillations. The typical bifurcations of regular and chaotic attractors which are due to parameter variations are analyzed.Regularities of the transition to chaos via the collapse of quasiperiodic oscillations with two and three frequencies are investigated in detail. The book deals with the problems of chaotic synchronization, interaction of attractors and the phenomenon of stochastic resonance. The problems of fluctuation influence on the bifurcations and properties of chaotic attractors are investigated more closely. All principal problems are investigated by the comparison of theoretical and numerical results and data from physical experiments.

Book The Noisy Pendulum

    Book Details:
  • Author : M. Gitterman
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN : 9812833005
  • Pages : 133 pages

Download or read book The Noisy Pendulum written by M. Gitterman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the general description of the mathematical pendulum subject to constant torque, periodic and random forces. The latter appear in additive and multiplicative form with their possible correlation. For the underdamped pendulum driven by periodic forces, a new phenomenon OCo deterministic chaos OCo comes into play, and the common action of this chaos and the influence of noise are taken into account. The inverted position of the pendulum can be stabilized either by periodic or random oscillations of the suspension axis or by inserting a spring into a rigid rod, or by their combination. The pendulum is one of the simplest nonlinear models, which has many applications in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, communications, economics and sociology. A wide group of researchers working in these fields, along with students and teachers, will benefit from this book.

Download or read book The Chaotic Pendulum written by Moshe Gitterman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pendulum is the simplest nonlinear system, which, however, provides the means for the description of different phenomena in Nature that occur in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, communications, economics and sociology. The chaotic behavior of pendulum is usually associated with the random force acting on a pendulum (Brownian motion). Another type of chaotic motion (deterministic chaos) occurs in nonlinear systems with only few degrees of freedom. This book presents a comprehensive description of these phenomena going on in underdamped and overdamped pendula subject to additive and multiplicative periodic and random forces. No preliminary knowledge, such as complex mathematical or numerical methods, is required from a reader other than undergraduate courses in mathematical physics. A wide group of researchers, along with students and teachers will, thus, benefit from this definitive book on nonlinear dynamics.

Book Noise Sustained Patterns Fluctuations And Nonlinearities

Download or read book Noise Sustained Patterns Fluctuations And Nonlinearities written by Markus Loecher and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-12-04 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the impact of noise upon the emergence and sustenance of patterns. “Patterns” loosely refers to coherent spatial structures, including fronts, as well as temporal patterns. The crucial role of nonlinearities is highlighted and expanded upon in the context of dynamical system frameworks. The author's familiarity with chaos theory, statistical physics and nonlinear science is reflected in the highly interdisciplinary character of the text. Model equations and experiments taken from fluid dynamics, semiconductor devices, biophysics and statistical mechanics complement theoretical concepts. It should be of great value to researchers and graduate students who desire a quick introduction to the subject. Excursions into emerging fields such as traffic flow simulations and game theory serve to broaden the scope and to encourage the exploration of sundry topics.

Book Turbulence and Self Organization

Download or read book Turbulence and Self Organization written by Mikhail Ya Marov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-16 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with the development of continual models of turbulent natural media. Such models serve as a ground for the statement and numerical evaluation of the key problems of the structure and evolution of the numerous astrophysical and geophysical objects. The processes of ordering (self-organization) in an originally chaotic turbulent medium are addressed and treated in detail with the use of irreversible thermodynamics and stochastic dynamics approaches which underlie the respective models. Different examples of ordering set up in the natural environment and outer space are brought and thoroughly discussed, the main focus being given to the protoplanetary discs formation and evolution.
