This book will provide the reader with foreknowledge on what to look for with regard to signs and symptoms that usually occur toward the end of a person's lifecycle on this earth. Transitional Journey will give insight and helpful tips on family dynamics (the craziness) that sometimes occur and create division within the family when someone in declining health is being cared for. As a person declines in health, sometimes emotions get in the way of seeing what is really happening before your very eyes. Or maybe you see it but are not ready to accept it. Either way, recognizing the truth as it is and making the necessary adjustments as the person declines will add quality time to the time they have remaining here in this life and help facilitate closure for everyone. You are not your body. As the body becomes weaker on a person's deathbed and eventually dies, the spirit and soul will exit the body and are still alive. Ecclesiastes 12:7 states, "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return to God who gave it" (NKJV). Rev 6:9-11 is proof that the soul is still alive after death. For example, if the cause of death is suicide or murder, the body/flesh has died but not the person's spirit or soul. The disease process, old age, accidents, birth defects, suicide or murder that cause the body/flesh to die do not cause the spirit and soul to die. When a person takes his/her last breath here on earth, they are simply exiting their body to leave this earth and to enter the spirit world. Only the body (the flesh) dies and remains here on earth; the spirit and soul will live forever. We get to choose where that will be-heaven or hell. Regardless of what the catalysis to the death of the body is, each person's physical decline is unique because we all are different, and no two medical histories or incidents are exactly the same. This book can give the reader ideas and helpful tips to consider while caring for someone who is transitioning toward the end of his/her life on earth; it does not claim to have all the answers. The only person who has all the answers to everything is God.

Book excerpt: This pioneering book charts how President George W. Bush's "compassionate conservatism" creates a new path for American Social Policy. There is a growing interest in testing the proposition that faith-based organizations (FBOs) could do even greater good, especially if government supports an expanded role. The organizations represent a potentially valuable, but controversial, resource because they offer to fight a very different war against America's social ills. This work offers three conclusions. First, FBOs are effective in dealing with chronic social problems because they spark personal transformation. Second, financing them through the Tax Code or vouchers is preferable to direct federal funding. The fear that public funding means government take-over of religion serves as perhaps the greatest impediment to a more expansive role for FBOs. Third, although predicting the U.S. Supreme Court's resolution of church-state issues is fraught with difficulties, the emerging "equal treatment" of religion by the High Court suggests a more permissive attitude toward the federal funding of religous charities. The tax and voucher alternatives seem certain to pass constitutional muster. In God We Trust? is among the first works to assess President Bush's policy efforts to meet America's social ills by turning more tasks over to FBOs. In addition to demonstrating the constitutionality of the federal efforts to fund FBOs, the book analytically summarizes the existing empirical evidence dealing with the effectiveness of faith-based organizations.

Book excerpt: Using the way in which artists from the former Eastern bloc perceive the experience of EU integration and transition from a Soviet past as a conceptual launching pad, this book explores how artists critically inhabit a permanent state of 'in-between' to capture the simultaneous existence of multiple and overlapping temporalities. Transitional aesthetics are artistic strategies that disrupt and interrogate ideologically loaded trajectories of cultural, social, or political transition. Examples of such trajectories include the movement from totalitarianism to democracy (post-socialism), from war to freedom and reconciliation (post-conflict), and from the edges of Europe to its centre (inclusion in the European Union). These transitional states include: the future orientation of (failed) socialism and the perpetual present of global capital; the history of unresolved past conflicts and reconciliation through 'transitional justice'; nationalist obsessions with the past and the cultural appeal of kitsch and retro objects in fashion, film and music; and the uncertain future promise of EU membership and resurgence of global right-wing populism, headed by figures like Berlusconi, Le Pen, and Trump. Transitional Aesthetics shows that apprehending time in contemporary art is fundamental to capturing the lived experience of a permanent state of instability; particularly relevant to Europe in the contemporary moment. In a world that has entered 'accelerated transition' towards instability, understanding this experience has broad and resonating relevance for politics, art and society.
