Book Montenegro in Transition

Download or read book Montenegro in Transition written by Florian Bieber and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now that the third Yugoslavia has ended and the new union of Serbia and Montenegro emerged, Montenegro still remains largely unknown. The path of this smallest republic of former Yugoslavia has differed from the rest of the country during the past decade. Montenegro emerged as the only republic not to be engulfed in armed conflict. At the same time, it remained together with Serbia part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and will continue to form a loose union with Serbia for the coming three years. This book seeks to close an important gap in the literature on the former Yugoslavia. As the first overview over political, historical, and economic developments in Montenegro during the past decade in English, it seeks to offer a nuanced assessment of the difficulties encountered by Montenegro during the violent disintegration of Yugoslavia. The articles cover all major aspects for understanding contemporary Montenegro; from its historical origins and the identity of Montenegrin to political, economic developments and an overview of minority-majority relations. In addition, the book surveys the dispute over Montenegrin independence and the Belgrade agreement of March 2002. The book is not only of interest for those seeking to understand contemporary Montenegro, but also for scholars and students interested in the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the conflicts and post-war transition in which the former Yugoslav space is engaged.

Book Transition in Montenegro

Download or read book Transition in Montenegro written by Igor Luksic and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every transition process has its own specifics. Montenegro is no different. It started like in case of other Eastern European countries in late 80ies and early 90ies. But it soon floundered due to the wars in the region and international sanctions. The transformation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia into the state union of Serbian and Montenegro gave a boost to economic reforms in particular. Restored independence in 2006 sped the process of the European integration which has led into the rounds of political reforms. Challenges remain ahead as there is more to do in the fields of rule of law, economic governance and public administration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Montenegro is a small country in southeastern Europe, bordered by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea. It gained independence in 2006 from Serbia and has a population of about 620,029 people. Its official language is Montenegrin, which is closely related to Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian. Serbia had ruled Montenegro for over 88 years before its independence, but its history can be traced back to the Illyrians, an ancient Indo-European people who inhabited the western Balkans. Montenegro has a diverse landscape with mountains, lakes, and beaches, making it a popular tourist destination. Montenegro is a member of the United Nations and NATO’s Partnership for Peace program, but it is not an official member of the European Union. The country’s economy relies on tourism and energy production, with significant investment from foreign companies. The country has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters. Montenegro is known for its beautiful beaches along the Adriatic coast and its medieval towns, such as Kotor and Budva, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The country is also home to several national parks, including Durmitor and Biogradska Gora, which offer visitors the opportunity to hike, ski, and experience the country's natural beauty.

Book The Transition From Education to Employment

Download or read book The Transition From Education to Employment written by Igor Luksic and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As of 2012 the Government of Montenegro introduced new apprenticeships scheme dedicated to high education graduates without previous working experience, lasting for nine months, with monthly remuneration for apprentices amounting 50% of average net salary in Montenegro for previous year provided from the state budget. The scheme represents Government`s further contribution to education and professional training of youth, implemented at both public and private sectors, providing graduates with possibility to acquire practical knowledge, skills and competences and opportunity to prove their capabilities to potential employers.Over the course of years over 21.000 of high education graduates in Montenegro used the opportunities provided by the scheme, which lately is generating significantly more interest with the employers from the private sector. Given the size of the country of around 620.000 inhabitants with still high youth unemployment of 32% in 2017, it is evident what impact this initiative has had. In addition to significant input for creation of proper high education enrolment policy, processes and data stemming from the scheme implementation are also proofing to be beneficial in many different areas, such as unemployment statistics, digital skills use, recognition of education achievements, etc. Primarily created to enable youth to acquire working experience which would enable for future permanent employment, results and experience gained from the implementation of the new scheme are indicating certain areas for further improvements which, combined with other measures, could partially contribute to resolving the issue of youth unemployment in Montenegro.

Book Competitiveness and Private Sector Development Western Balkans Competitiveness Outlook 2024 Montenegro

Download or read book Competitiveness and Private Sector Development Western Balkans Competitiveness Outlook 2024 Montenegro written by OECD and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2024-06-26 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the six Western Balkan (WB6) economies depends on greater economic competitiveness. Although the gap is closing gradually, the standards of living in WB6 are well below those of the OECD and EU. Accelerating the rate of socio-economic convergence will require a holistic and growth oriented approach to policy making. This is the fourth study of the region (formerly under the title 'Competitiveness in South East Europe') and it comprehensively assesses policy reforms in the WB6 economies across 15 policy areas key to strengthening their competitiveness. It enables WB6 economies to compare economic performance against regional peers, as well as EU-OECD good practices and standards, and to design future policies based on rich evidence and actionable policy recommendations. The regional profile presents assessment findings across five policy clusters crucial to accelerating socio-economic convergence of the WB6 by fostering regional co-operation: business environment, skills, infrastructure and connectivity, digital transformation and greening. Economy-specific profiles complement the regional assessment, offering each WB6 economy an in-depth analysis of their policies supporting competitiveness. They also track the implementation of the previous 2021 study's recommendations and provide additional ones tailored to the economies’ evolving challenges. These recommendations aim to inform structural economic reforms and facilitate the region’s socio-economic convergence towards the standards of the EU and OECD.

Book Polarization Shifting Borders and Liquid Governance

Download or read book Polarization Shifting Borders and Liquid Governance written by Anja Mihr and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-26 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open-access book explores the security dynamics amid the polarization, shifting borders, and liquid governance that define the Zeitenwende era in Europe's eastern neighbourhood and Central Asia. Presenting various case studies, the volume unveils the intricate web of border dynamics and practices, including the nuanced interplay of border disputes within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) member states. The contributions shed new light on how contested borders and liquid modes of governance have impacted the engagement of international organizations such as the European Union (EU), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and OSCE in security crises and conflict prevention. Delving deeper, a special part dissects the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and examines European and international responses. By analyzing the stances of diverse European countries, their neighborhood, and international organizations, this section uncovers commonalities and disparities in their approaches to the Ukrainian crisis.

Book excerpt: In May 2006, following a closely and bitterly fought referendum, Montenegro finally regained the status of an independent nation that it had lost in 1918 - the most recent chapter in a highly turbulent history. The tiny Balkan republica??s declaration of independence from Serbia represented - barring the final resolution of Kosovoa??s status - the final stage in the disintegration of what was once Yugoslavia. But how did the Balkans forge this tiny republic? What sets it apart from the other dominant powers in the region? And what will be its future role on the worlda??s stage? 'Montenegro: A Modern History' charts the countrya??s contemporary history in accessible and comprehensive form. Kenneth Morrison explores the forces that have shaped the republic of Montenegro and questions where this will lead in the future, examining the fundamental issues of Montenegrin identity and statehood in a wider European as well as a Balkan context. This full and authoritative modern history is essential reading for everyone interested in the political and social dynamics of one of Europea??s youngest states.
