Book Complex Interval Arithmetic and Its Applications

Download or read book Complex Interval Arithmetic and Its Applications written by Miodrag Petković and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present formulas and methods developed using complex interval arithmetic. While most of numerical methods described in the literature deal with real intervals and real vectors, there is no systematic study of methods in complex interval arithmetic. The book fills this gap. Several main subjects are considered: outer estimates for the range of complex functions, especially complex centered forms, the best approximations of elementary complex functions by disks, iterative methods for the inclusion by polynomial zeros including their implementation on parallel computers, the analysis of numerical stability of iterative methods by using complex interval arithmetic and numerical computation of curvilinear integrals with error bounds. Mainly new methods are presented developed over the last years, including a lot of very recent results by the authors some of which have not been published before.

Book Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Todor V. Gramchev and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2000-02-22 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The applications of methods from microlocal analysis for PDE have been a fast developing area during the last years. The authors, both are well known in the community, publish for the first time some of their research results in a summarized form. The essential point of the approach is the use of the various types of approximate (asymptotic) solutions in the study of differential equations in the smooth and the Gevrey spaces. In this volume, the authors deal with the following themes: Microlocal properties of pseudodifferential operators with multiple characteristics of involutive type in the framework of the Sobolev spaces; Abstract schemes for constructing approximate solutions to linear partial differential equations with characteristics of constant multiplicity m greater than or equal 2 in the framework of Gevrey spaces; Local solvability, hypoellipticity and singular solutions in Gevrey spaces; Global Gevrey solvability on the torus for linear partial differential equations; Applications of asymptotic methods for local (non)solvability for quasihomogeneous operators; Applications of Airy asymptotic solutions to degenerate oblique derivative problems for second order strictly hyperbolic equations; Approximate Gevrey normal forms of analytic involutions and analytic glancing hypersurfaces with applications for effective stability estimates for billiard ball maps.

Book Initial Approximations and Root Finding Methods

Download or read book Initial Approximations and Root Finding Methods written by Nikolay V. Kyurkchiev and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1998-10-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polynomials as mathematical objects have been studied extensively for a long time, and the knowledge collected about them is enormous. Polynomials appear in various fields of applied mathematics and engineering, from mathematics of finance up to signal theory or robust control. The calculation of the roots of a polynomial is a basic problems of numerical mathematics. In this book, an update on iterative methods of calculating simultaneously all roots of a polynomial is given: a survey on basic facts, a lot of methods and properties of those methods connected with the classical task of the approximative determination of roots. For the computer determination the choice of the initial approximation is of special importance. Here the authors offers his new ideas and research results of the last decade which facilitate the practical numerical treatment of polynomials.

Book Topics in Torsion Theory

Download or read book Topics in Torsion Theory written by Paul E. Bland and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1998-11-30 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Torsion theory provides an umbrella under which many classical properties of rings and modules can be reformulated. The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a quick introduction to torsion theory and to study selected properties of rings and modules in this setting. The material presented ranges from a torsion theoretical treatment of standard topics in ring and module theory to how previously untreated properties of rings and modules might be dealt with in this setting. The approach has been to develop the material so that classical results can be recovered by selecting an appropriate torsion theory. Simple modules, maximal submodules, the Jacobson radical and modules with chain conditions are investigated relative to a torsion theory. A relative form of Nakayama’s lemma is given and a generalized Hopkins-Levitzki theorem is established. Injective and projective concepts are studied and a generalized Baer’s condition for injective modules and a generalized Fuchs condition for quasi-injective modules are shown to hold. Flat modules and covers and hulls of modules are investigated and the concept of a relative (quasi-)projective cover is used to characterize those rings which are right perfect modulo their torsion ideal. Torsion free covers are also studied and results are given which generalize well known results on torsion free covers for modules (with usual torsion) over an integral domain. Finally, (semi-)primitive, (semi-)simple and (semi-)prime rings are investigated in a torsion theoretical setting and rings which are right primitive relative to a torsion theory are linked to a form of density which is reminiscent of Jacobson density for right primitive rings.

Book Brownian Motion and Index Formulas for the de Rham Complex

Download or read book Brownian Motion and Index Formulas for the de Rham Complex written by Kazuaki Taira and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1998 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an easy-to-read reference providing a link between partial differential equations (pde), stochastic analysis, and index theory. Most mathematicians working in pde are only vaguely familiar with the powerful ideas of stochastic analysis. On the other hand, the additional intuition which Taira?s book conveys might provide better insight and be helpful for their work. In addition, the book provides a nice compendium for a large variety of facts from differential geometry, functional analysis, pseudodifferential operators, and Markov processes - for quickly looking up a theorem.
