Book Building Heat Transfer

Download or read book Building Heat Transfer written by Morris Grenfell Davies and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-06-25 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A third or more of the energy consumption of industrialized countries is expended on creating acceptable thermal and lighting conditions in buildings. As a result, building heat transfer is keenly important to the design of buildings, and the resulting analytical theory forms the basis of most design procedures. Analytical Theory of Building Heat Transfer is the first comprehensive reference of its kind, a one-volume compilation of current findings on heat transfer relating to the thermal behavior of buildings, forming a logical basis for current design procedures.

Book Transient Heat Flow Along Uni directional Fibers in Composites

Download or read book Transient Heat Flow Along Uni directional Fibers in Composites written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For uni-directional fibrous composites and laminated composites, a heat-balance integral method has been developed for the analysis of transient heat flow along the fibers or in the plane of laminates. The method is based on the construction of, for the two constituent media, temperature profiles which not only satisfy the necessary boundary conditions but also fulfill the asymptotic error function properties when inter-region conduction is vanishingly small or at very early times of the heat transient.

Book Thermal Insulation and Radiation Control Technologies for Buildings

Download or read book Thermal Insulation and Radiation Control Technologies for Buildings written by Jan Kośny and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-06 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique treatment of building insulating products and the integration of these products with building components. This book was written for all those involved in building design, specification, construction, and commissioning, providing them with an understanding of and appreciation for the wide variety of thermal insulation products and technologies available for use in all types of buildings. The book proceeds from basic definitions and discussion of heat-transfer topics and thermal insulation concepts, to the design and use of these products. The impact of thermal insulation on dynamic building performance, including factors other than heating and cooling, is also discussed. The book does not require an advanced mathematical background. The authors provide sufficient information to provide a qualitative understanding, with more mathematical sections included for those interested in modeling and analysis. The basic physics associated with heat transfer in buildings are presented, along with the steady-state and transient analysis techniques needed for the effective implementation of thermal insulation and assemblies. Modern building design involves the integration of comfort, safety, economics, durability and cost considerations, all of which impact the selection and use of thermal insulation materials in buildings. In addition to theoretical explanations of the underlying science, the book details the properties and application of new thermal insulation materials, including vacuum panels, gas-filled panels, aerogels, phase-change materials, and radiation control technologies. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to researchers and building engineers wishing to understand the latest technologies and materials available, so as to achieve reduced energy consumption in commercial and residential buildings.

Book Thermal Quadrupoles

Download or read book Thermal Quadrupoles written by Denis Maillet and published by . This book was released on 2000-11-17 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This superb text describes a novel and powerful method for allowing design engineers to firstly model a linear problem in heat conduction, then build a solution in an explicit form and finally obtain a numerical solution. It constitutes a modelling and calculation tool based on a very efficient and systemic methodological approach. Solving the heat equations through integral transforms does not constitute a new subject. However, finding a solution generally constitutes only one part of the problem. In design problems, an initial thermal design has to be tested through the calculation of the temperature or flux field, followed by an analysis of this field in terms of constraints. A modified design is then proposed, followed by a new thermal field calculation, and so on until the right design is found. The thermal quadrupole method allows this often painful iterative procedure to be removed by allowing only one calculation. The chapters in this book increase in complexity from a rapid presentation of the method for one dimensional transient problems in chapter one, to non uniform boundary conditions or inhomogeneous media in chapter six. In addition, a wide range of corrected problems of contemporary interest are presented mainly in chapters three and six with their numerical implementation in MATLAB (r) language. This book covers the whole scope of linear problems and presents a wide range of concrete issues of contemporary interest such as harmonic excitations of buildings, transfer in composite media, thermal contact resistance and moving material heat transfer. Extensions of this method to coupled transfers in a semi-transparent medium and to mass transfer in porous media are considered respectively in chapters seven and eight. Chapter nine is devoted to practical numerical methods that can be used to inverse the Laplace transform. Written from an engineering perspective, with applications to real engineering problems, this book will be of significant interest not only to researchers, lecturers and graduate students in mechanical engineering (thermodynamics) and process engineers needing to model a heat transfer problem to obtain optimized operating conditions, but also to researchers interested in the simulation or design of experiments where heat transfer play a significant role.
