Book Transient Beam Loading Effects in RF Systems in Jleic

Download or read book Transient Beam Loading Effects in RF Systems in Jleic written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pulsed electron bunch trains generated from the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) linac to inject into the proposed Jefferson Lab Electron Ion Collider (JLEIC) e-ring will produce transient beam loading effects in the Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) systems that, if not mitigated, could cause unacceptably large beam energy deviation in the injection capture, or exceed the energy acceptance of CEBAF's recirculating arcs. In the electron storage ring, the beam abort or ion clearing gaps or uneven bucket filling can cause large beam phase transients in the (S)RF cavity control systems and even beam loss due to Robinson instability. We have first analysed the beam stability criteria in steady state and estimated the transient effect in Feedforward and Feedback RF controls. Initial analytical models for these effects are shown for the design of the JLEIC e-ring from 3GeV to 12GeV.

Book Transient Beam Loading Effects in Gas filled RF Cavities for a Muon Collider

Download or read book Transient Beam Loading Effects in Gas filled RF Cavities for a Muon Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gas-filled RF cavity can be an effective solution for the development of a compact muon ionization cooling channel. One possible problem expected in this type of cavity is the dissipation of significant RF power through the beam-induced plasmas accumulated inside the cavity (plasma loading). In addition, for the higher muon beam intensity, the effects of the beam itself on the cavity accelerating mode are non-negligible (beam loading). These beam- cavity interactions induce a transient phase which may be very harmful to the beam quality [1]. In this study, we estimate the transient voltage in a gas-filled RF cavity with both the plasma and conventional beam loading and discuss their compensation methods.

Book Beam Loading Effects in the APS Booster

Download or read book Beam Loading Effects in the APS Booster written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam loading of the radio-frequency (rf) accelerating cavities is an important consideration in the design and operation of high-current circular particle accelerators and storage rings. The steady-state and transient perturbations of the rf cavity system by the circulating beam can be harmful to the beam and limit the accelerator performance. Transient beam loading effects have been observed soon after injection of the beam into the booster synchrotron of the Advanced Photon Source (APS). Data are presented quantifying the responses of both the beam and the rf cavities to beam loading under various conditions. A preliminary discussion addresses the compensation of these beam loading effects. 3 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.

Book Transient Beam Loading in the SLC Damping Rings

Download or read book Transient Beam Loading in the SLC Damping Rings written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effects arising from heavy beam loading in the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) Damping Rings are described. The stability of the rf system and particle beam is studied using a numerical model of the beam cavity interaction with multiple feedback loops. Nonlinearities of the power source are also considered. The effects of beam-induced transients and intensity jitter on the rf system are analyzed and used to determine stability tolerances for both high current and low current pulses.

Book Transient Beam Loading in the ALS Harmonic RF System

Download or read book Transient Beam Loading in the ALS Harmonic RF System written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on the commissioning of a higher harmonicradiofrequency system at the Advanced Light Source, designed to improvethe beam lifetime. We have achieved an increase above a factor of two inour best results up to now. Transient beam loading of the harmoniccavities, due to the unequal fill patterns, creates the greatestlimitation on lifetime improvement. We also describe several interestingeffects on the operation of the longitudinal and transverse multibunchfeedback system.

Book Static and Transient Beam Loading of a Synchrotron

Download or read book Static and Transient Beam Loading of a Synchrotron written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a synchrotron, when the beam induced current is comparable to the driver current, the RF cavity is subjected to beam loading perturbation and corrective steps have to be implemented to regain beam stability. In this paper, the static and transient beam loading will be studied. We first discuss the static beam loading, which includes the cavity detuning condition, the stability condition, and the generator power dissipation. The beam current induced beam phase deviation is used as criterion to study the transient beam loading. The upgraded and the old AGS RF system parameters are used as an example to demonstrate how to choose cavity and generator parameters to satisfy the stability requirements under the beam loading. The dynamic models for the beam loading with beam control, and the beam loading with fast power amplifier feedback are presented and analyzed. It is shown that the beam phase and radial feedbacks alone are insufficient for the transient beam loading compensation, but the fast power amplifier feedback can provide effective correction on the beam loading. The limitation of the fast feedback and the beam loading with tuning and AVC loops are also discussed.

Book Operating Experience with High Beam Currents and Transient Beam Loading in the SLC Damping Rings

Download or read book Operating Experience with High Beam Currents and Transient Beam Loading in the SLC Damping Rings written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1994 SLC run the nominal operating intensity in the damping rings was raised from 3.5 x 101° to greater than 4 x 101° particles per bunch (ppb). Stricter regulation of rf system parameters was required to maintain stability of the rf system and particle beam. Improvements were made in the feedback loops which control the cavity amplitude and loading angles. Compensation for beam loading was also required to prevent klystron saturation during repetition rate changes. To minimize the effects of transient loading on the rf system, the gain of the direct rf feedback loop and the loading angles were optimized.

Book Applications of Superconductivity

Download or read book Applications of Superconductivity written by H. Weinstock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, in essence the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Study Institute with the same title, is designed to provide in-depth coverage of many, but not all, of the major current applications of superconductivity, and of many that still are being developed. It will be of value to scientists and engineers who have interests in the research and production aspects of the technology, as well as in the applications themselves. The ftrst three chapters (by Clarke, Vrba and Wikswo) are devoted to an understanding of the principles, fabrication and uses of SQUID magnetometers and gradiometers, with the greatest emphasis on biomagnetism and nondestructive evaluation (NDE). For the most part, traditional low-temperature superconductor (LTS) SQUIDs are used, but particularly for NDE, high-temperature superconductor (HTS) SQUIDs are proving useful and often more convenient. The succeeding three chapters (by Przybysz, Likharev and Chaloupka) cover broader aspects of superconducting electronics. The ftrst two of these deal primarily with digital L TS circuits, while the third discusses in great detail passive component applications using HTS materials. Currently, HTS ftlters are undergoing intense J3-site testing at cellular telephone base stations. While it is clear that HTS ftlters outperform conventional ftlters in reducing signal loss and allowing for more channels in a given bandwidth, it isn't yet certain that the cellular telephone industry sees sufficient economic beneftts to make a ftrm decision to use HTS ftlters universally in its systems. If this application is generally adapted, the market for these ftlters should be quite large.

Download or read book Upgrading the Space Shuttle written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-02-21 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The space shuttle is a unique national resource. One of only two operating vehicles that carries humans into space, the space shuttle functions as a scientific laboratory and as a base for construction, repair, and salvage missions in low Earth orbit. It is also a heavy-lift launch vehicle (able to deliver more than 18,000 kg of payload to low Earth orbit) and the only current means of returning large payloads to Earth. Designed in the 1970s, the shuttle has frequently been upgraded to improve safety, cut operational costs, and add capability. Additional upgrades have been proposed-and some are under way-to combat obsolescence, further reduce operational costs, improve safety, and increase the ability of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to support the space station and other missions. In May 1998, NASA asked the National Research Council (NRC) to examine the agency's plans for further upgrades to the space shuttle system. The NRC was asked to assess NASA's method for evaluating and selecting upgrades and to conduct a top-level technical assessment of proposed upgrades.

Download or read book Unsteady Transonic Flow written by Mårten T. Landahl and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic monograph on unsteady transonic flow — the flow of air encountered at speeds at or near the speed of sound — is of continuing interest to students and professionals in aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, and other areas of applied mathematics. After a brief Introduction, Swedish physicist Mårten T. Landahl presents a chapter in which the two-dimensional solution is derived, succeeded by a discussion of its relation to the subsonic and supersonic solutions. Three chapters on low aspect ratio configurations follow, covering triangular wings and similar planforms with curved leading edges, rectangular wings, and cropped delta wings, and low aspect ratio wing-body combinations. The treatment concludes with a consideration of the experimental determination of air forces on oscillating wings at transonic speeds.

Book Signal Processing of Power Quality Disturbances

Download or read book Signal Processing of Power Quality Disturbances written by Math H. J. Bollen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-08-04 with total page 883 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between power quality and signal processing This innovative new text brings together two leading experts, one from signal processing and the other from power quality. Combining their fields of expertise, they set forth and investigate various types of power quality disturbances, how measurements of these disturbances are processed and interpreted, and, finally, the use and interpretation of power quality standards documents. As a practical aid to readers, the authors make a clear distinction between two types of power quality disturbances: * Variations: disturbances that are continuously present * Events: disturbances that occur occasionally A complete analysis and full set of tools are provided for each type of disturbance: * Detailed examination of the origin of the disturbance * Signal processing measurement techniques, including advanced techniques and those techniques set forth in standards documents * Interpretation and analysis of measurement data * Methods for further processing the features extracted from the signal processing into site and system indices The depth of coverage is outstanding: the authors present and analyze material that is not covered in the standards nor found in the scientific literature. This text is intended for two groups of readers: students and researchers in power engineering who need to use signal processing techniques for power system applications, and students and researchers in signal processing who need to perform power system disturbance analyses and diagnostics. It is also highly recommended for any engineer or utility professional involved in power quality monitoring.

Book Stereographic Projection Technique

Download or read book Stereographic Projection Technique written by P R LEYSHON and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1996 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to provide a simple introduction to the subject by means of illustrations and exercises, encouraging the student to visualise the problems concerned in three dimensions. Once an appreciation is gained of the nature of the problem, the formal solution using the projection becomes both logical and straightforward. The stereographic projection is an essential tool of the structural geologist which allows three-dimensional orientation data to be both represented and manipulated. It provides a way of graphically displaying the data collected. This is essential for the recognition and interpretation of patterns of preferred orientation. 'This is the book all teachers of stereographic projections have been waiting for! It is 115 pages of well-presented, clearly explained, generally well-illustrated text - in short it is user-friendly.' - Episodes - Int. Geoscience Newsmagazine, April 1996
