Download or read book A Geometric Theory for Hypergraph Matching written by Peter Keevash and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2014-12-20 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors develop a theory for the existence of perfect matchings in hypergraphs under quite general conditions. Informally speaking, the obstructions to perfect matchings are geometric, and are of two distinct types: `space barriers' from convex geometry, and `divisibility barriers' from arithmetic lattice-based constructions. To formulate precise results, they introduce the setting of simplicial complexes with minimum degree sequences, which is a generalisation of the usual minimum degree condition. They determine the essentially best possible minimum degree sequence for finding an almost perfect matching. Furthermore, their main result establishes the stability property: under the same degree assumption, if there is no perfect matching then there must be a space or divisibility barrier. This allows the use of the stability method in proving exact results. Besides recovering previous results, the authors apply our theory to the solution of two open problems on hypergraph packings: the minimum degree threshold for packing tetrahedra in -graphs, and Fischer's conjecture on a multipartite form of the Hajnal-Szemerédi Theorem. Here they prove the exact result for tetrahedra and the asymptotic result for Fischer's conjecture; since the exact result for the latter is technical they defer it to a subsequent paper.
Download or read book Transferral written by Kate Blair and published by DCB. This book was released on 2015-10-24 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: London, England, present day. This is the world as we know it, but with one key difference: medical science has found a way to remove diseases from the sick. The catch? They can only transfer the diseases into other living humans. The government now uses the technology to cure the innocent by infecting criminals. It is into this world that Talia Hale is born. Now sixteen and the daughter of a prime ministerial candidate, she discovers that the effort to ensure that bad things happen only to bad people has turned a once-thriving community into a slum, and has made life perilous for two new friends. When Talia’s father makes an election promise to send in the police to crack down on this community, Talia can only think of how much worse things will be for her friends. Will she defy her father to protect them, even if it means costing him the election? Tranferral, the debut from Kate Blair, is a chilling look at a world gone wrong because of its efforts to do right.
Download or read book Why Grundnorm written by Uta Bindreiter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-12-31 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who presupposes Kelsen's basic norm? Is it possible to defend the presupposition in a way that is convincing? And what difference does the presupposition make? Endeavouring to highlight the role of basic assumptions in the law, the author argues that the verb "to presuppose', with Kelsen, has not only a conceptual but also a normative dimension; and that the expression 'presupposing the basic norm'is adequate in so far as it marks the descriptive-normative nature of utterances made in specifically legal speech-situations. Addressed to legal theorists in general, the treatise purports to show that Kelsen's doctrine lends itself to an interpretation according to which the very act of "presupposing" the Grundnorm can be understood as a Grund, i.e. normative source of all positive law; and, what is more, that this interpretation admits of addressing the issue of the (formal) legitimacy of supra-national and directly applicable rules and other norms.

Download or read book Political Grace written by Wes Rehberg and published by Wes Rehberg. This book was released on 2012-03-05 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy and theology have increasingly turned to the problem of the rising numbers of people who live in severe conditions of oppression, people who are surplus to global economic and political orders which the oppressed define as "neoliberal" and "neocolonial." This work, Political Grace: The Gift of Resistance, is part of that turning, through conversations with those who were and still are living under oppressive conditions, especially in Central America and Mexico, and through conversations with phenomenology, feminist theology, feminist jurisprudence, ethics, and liberation theology. There is an assertion that grace, and the organization of the "lifeworld" which phenomenologists discuss, act in concert to seek to empower the flourishing of humans to understand and resist the abasing conditions they confront. What frequently occurs when people living under oppressive conditions try to change their circumstances is a backlash by those who control their political, social and economic conditions. In response, the spirit of grace, as part of the human effort to flourish, aids in the resistance against the denial of this flourishing. -- Wes Rehberg

Download or read book The Poison in the Gift written by Gloria Goodwin Raheja and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1988-09-15 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Poison in the Gift is a detailed ethnography of gift-giving in a North Indian village that powerfully demonstrates a new theoretical interpretation of caste. Introducing the concept of ritual centrality, Raheja shows that the position of the dominant landholding caste in the village is grounded in a central-peripheral configuration of castes rather than a hierarchical ordering. She advances a view of caste as semiotically constituted of contextually shifting sets of meanings, rather than one overarching ideological feature. This new understanding undermines the controversial interpretation advanced by Louis Dumont in his 1966 book, Homo Hierarchicus, in which he proposed a disjunction between the ideology of hierarchy based on the "purity" of the Brahman priest and the "temporal power" of the dominant caste or the king.
Download or read book PRE HOSPITAL 12 LEAD ECG written by Mr. Abdullah Ali Alzahrani and published by JEC PUBLICATION. This book was released on with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is a cornerstone of modern pre-hospital emergency care. Its ability to provide crucial insights into the electrical activity of the heart makes it an indispensable tool for paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) in diagnosing and managing cardiac emergencies. The goal of "Pre-Hospital 12- Lead ECG" is to equip pre-hospital care providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively utilize this powerful diagnostic tool in the field. This book is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the 12-lead ECG, starting from the fundamental anatomy and physiology of the heart to the advanced techniques of ECG interpretation and application in various pre-hospital scenarios. The syllabus is meticulously designed to cover the essential aspects of ECG acquisition and interpretation, with a focus on practical, real-world application. Chapter 1: Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart lays the foundation by exploring the structure and function of the cardiac conduction system, cardiac anatomy relevant to 12- lead ECG interpretation, and the electrophysiology of cardiac muscle contraction. A solid understanding of these concepts is crucial for accurate ECG interpretation.
Download or read book A Functional Biology of Sea Anemones written by J. Malcolm Shick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Editor: Peter Calow, Department of Zoology, University of Sheffield, England The main aim of this series will be to illustrate and to explain the way organisms 'make a living' in nature. At the heart of this - their Junctional biology - is the way organisms acquire and then make use of resources in metabolism, movement, growth, reproduction, and so on. These processes will form the fundamental framework of all the books in the series. Each book will concentrate on a particular taxon (species, family, class or even phylum) and will bring together information on the form, physiology, ecology and evolutionary biology of the group. The aim will be not only to describe how organisms work, but also to consider why they have come to work in that way. By concentrating on taxa which are well known, it is hoped that the series will not only illustrate the success of selection, but also show the constraints imposed upon it by the physiological, morphological and developmental limitations of the groups. Another important feature of the series will be its organismic orientation. Each book will emphasize the importance of functional integration in the day-to-day lives and the evolution of organisms. This is crucial since, though it may be true that organisms can be considered as collections of gene determined traits, they nevertheless interact with their environment as integrated wholes and it is in this context that individual traits have been subjected to natural selection and have evolved.
