  • ISBN : 1855845539
  • Pages : 98 pages

Download or read book Meditations written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a spiritual teacher, Rudolf Steiner wrote many inspired and beautifully-crafted verses. Often they were given in relation to specific situations or in response to individual requests; sometimes they were offered simply to assist in the process of meditation. Regardless of their origins, they are uniformly powerful in their ability to connect the meditating individual with spiritual archetypes. Thus, the meditations provide valuable tools for developing experience and knowledge of subtle dimensions of reality. Matthew Barton has translated and selected Steiner’s verses, sensitively arranging them by theme. In this collection – to promote courage and tranquillity – Rudolf Steiner highlights the balancing, harmonizing forces of the heart, which are so much under attack in our cerebral culture. The verses aim to strengthen the heart by warming and enlivening thinking, allowing for genuine peace of mind; by drawing feeling into the dark depths of our will, in order to help develop courage; by nurturing a real sense of peace within the heart; and by helping us to help others. Together they provide a powerful antidote to the stresses and strains of modern life.

Book On the Tranquility of the Mind

Download or read book On the Tranquility of the Mind written by Seneca and published by . This book was released on 2017-06-22 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seneca the Younger (c. 4 BC - AD 65), fully Lucius Annaeus Seneca and also known simply as Seneca, was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, dramatist, and--in one work--humorist of the Silver Age of Latin literature. As a tragedian, he is best-known for his Medea and Thyestes. He was a tutor and later advisor to emperor Nero. He was forced to take his own life for alleged complicity in the Pisonian conspiracy to assassinate Nero. However, some sources state that he may have been innocent. His father was Seneca the Elder, his elder brother was Lucius Junius Gallio Annaeanus, and his nephew was the poet Lucan. In this work, the dialogue takes up the causes of man's restlessness and boredom, then moves on to Seneca's practical rules for happiness and peace of mind, rules based upon reason and virtue. The work is a timeless classic on the ultimate pursuit of happiness.

  • Pages : 82 pages

Download or read book Meditation written by Brian L. Weiss and published by Hay House Incorporated. This book was released on 2015-01-05 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meditation is a technique that can be used to experience peace, tranquility, and an inner beauty, leading us to rethink everything around us, even ourselves. It prompts us to trust in the ability we have to use and direct our energies to purify our bodies and minds . . . so that we can discover and develop our spirituality. Brian Weiss, M.D., has written a very special book to help with the practice of meditation (an audio download is also included to guide you through the process). Meditation: Achieving Inner Peace and Tranquility in Your Life includes the techniques Dr. Weiss uses on his patients, many of whom have conquered insomnia, anxiety, phobias, weight issues, and disease. Meditation can also lower blood pressure, strengthen the immunological system, and reduce stress. As Dr. Weiss says, “It all starts by closing our eyes, relaxing our muscles, and slowing down our breathing. Little by little, we ask our minds to block out the clamoring voices that usually bombard it. . . . This means living this moment intensely, letting go, and surrendering.” This book is the first step on a more peaceful, relaxing journey through life.

Book Primal Loss

Download or read book Primal Loss written by Leila Miller and published by Lcb Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-20 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventy now-adult children of divorce give their candid and often heart-wrenching answers to eight questions (arranged in eight chapters, by question), including: What were the main effects of your parents' divorce on your life? What do you say to those who claim that "children are resilient" and "children are happy when their parents are happy"? What would you like to tell your parents then and now? What do you want adults in our culture to know about divorce? What role has your faith played in your healing? Their simple and poignant responses are difficult to read and yet not without hope. Most of the contributors--women and men, young and old, single and married--have never spoken of the pain and consequences of their parents' divorce until now. They have often never been asked, and they believe that no one really wants to know. Despite vastly different circumstances and details, the similarities in their testimonies are striking; as the reader will discover, the death of a child's family impacts the human heart in universal ways.

Join literary scholar Alan Jacobs for a truly nourishing feast of learning. Discover what Homer can teach us about force, what Machiavelli has to say about reading and what Charlotte Brontë reveals about race. Not all the guests are people you might want to invite into your home, but they all bring something precious to the table. • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2019-06-07
  • ISBN : 0190861274
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book Zhu Xi written by and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains nine chapters of translation, by a range of leading scholars, focusing on core themes in the philosophy of Zhu Xi (1130-1200), one of the most influential Chinese thinkers of the later Confucian tradition. It includes an Introduction to Zhu's life and thought, a chronology of important events in his life, and a list of key terms of art. Zhu Xi's philosophy offers the most systematic and comprehensive expression of the Confucian tradition; he sought to explain and show the connections between the classics, relate them to a range of contemporary philosophical issues concerning the metaphysical underpinnings of the tradition, and defend Confucianism against competing traditions such as Daoism and Buddhism. He elevated the Four Books-i.e. the Analects, Mengzi, Great Learning, and Doctrine of the Mean-to a new and preeminent position within the Confucian canon and his edition and interpretation of these four texts was adopted as the basis for the Imperial Examination System, which served as the pathway to officialdom and success in traditional Chinese society. Zhu Xi's interpretation remained the orthodox tradition until the collapse of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) and exerted a profound and enduring influence on how Confucianism was understood in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.
