Download or read book Women in God s Army written by Andrew Mark Eason and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early Salvation Army professed its commitment to sexual equality in ministry and leadership. In fact, its founding constitution proclaimed women had the right to preach and hold any office in the organization. But did they? Women in God’s Army is the first study of its kind devoted to the critical analysis of this central claim. It traces the extent to which this egalitarian ideal was realized in the private and public lives of first- and second-generation female Salvationists in Britain and argues that the Salvation Army was found wanting in its overall commitment to women’s equality with men. Bold pronouncements were not matched by actual practice in the home or in public ministry. Andrew Mark Eason traces the nature of these discrepancies, as well as the Victorian and evangelical factors that lay behind them. He demonstrates how Salvationists often assigned roles and responsibilities on the basis of gender rather than equality, and the ways in which these discriminatory practices were supported by a male-defined theology and authority. He views this story from a number of angles, including historical, gender and feminist theology, ensuring it will be of interest to a wide spectrum of readers. Salvationists themselves will appreciate the light it sheds on recent debates. Ultimately, however, anyone who wants to learn more about the human struggle for equality will find this book enlightening.

Book excerpt: While driving on the Northern State Parkway to teach a Bible study for young adults in December 2019, Judith Gaffney heard the Spirit of the Lord say that 2020 would be a year of horses and chariots. She knew that this meant warfare. The next day during Sunday service, she shared what she had been told and everyone was attentive. She knew that God was preparing them for something and that they must fast and pray. Later, during the COVID-19 quarantine of March 2020, God spoke to the author’s heart about the need for His army, the church, to arise. He told her to write this book to share tools that would help His army train and gain strength for the days and years ahead. The book includes numerous “workout exercises,” tips on resisting the devil and committing yourself to Jesus, inspirational Bible verses, and testimonies and reflections to help you put learning into action. Stand and take your place as a solider of the Lord in these critical times with the wisdom and guidance in “Army Rise Up”.

But everyone at some point during boot camp comes to the end of their own strength. It is at that point where a little encouragement makes all the difference. Resting in God’s Shadow offers encouragement specifically written for those in this especially challenging period of the military. Chaplain (Major) Jeffrey L. Brooks, U.S. Army Retired knows what he’s talking about, with 22 years of active military service. During that time, he served as chaplain at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, encouraging the men and women in boot camp to never give up on themselves or their dreams, keep a positive mental attitude, and give it their best. Since then he’s had a passion to write these encouragements into a book. This book is a collection of twelve devotionals, followed by a prayer book with spaces to record your thoughts. The devotionals in Part One correspond with the prayer book in Part Two. Concise and focused devotions fit into even the most rigorous training schedule. Whether you’re active in the military, or have a loved one headed to boot camp, this devotional is sure to provide just the right words of encouragement and Scripture.

I know in today's altar call, it is not thoroughly explained to the new converts or intended converts that what they are getting into is an intense military training. You will undergo this intense training till anything that you derive pride and confidence in will be totally wiped off your life. The goal here is not to render you useless but that nothing else gets the glory in your life but God and God alone, nothing else. Book excerpt: Spiritual battles begin in the mind. It's a person's spirit and mind that are closely related and work in tandem with each other. Our best defense in spiritual battles is the assurance of salvation in Jesus Christ. When a person has a confident belief they're a member of God's army, and because they trust Him, no other spiritual force can take that away. This book has been written for the Christian who's serious about taking control of their life and gaining an advantage over everything evil. The first part of the book defines what Spiritual Warfare is, why it exists, and how long we can expect to do battle. The second half of the book explains the seven Rules of Spiritual Warfare and how it can enable a person to recognize and formulate a viable strategy against evil. My reason for writing this book is to help guide you through the Spiritual Warfare that you've been born into.
