Book Fundamental Approaches to Software Engineering

Download or read book Fundamental Approaches to Software Engineering written by Ralf-Detlef Kutsche and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ETAPS 2002 was the ?fth instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was established in 1998by combining a number of existing and new conferences. This year it comprised 5 conferences (FOSSACS, FASE, ESOP, CC, TACAS), 13 satellite workshops (ACL2, AGT, CMCS, COCV, DCC, INT, LDTA, SC, SFEDL, SLAP, SPIN, TPTS, and VISS), 8invited lectures (not including those speci?c to the satellite events), and several tutorials. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system - velopment process, including speci?cation, design, implementation, analysis, and improvement. The languages, methodologies, and tools which support these - tivities are all well within its scope. Di?erent blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on one hand and soundly-based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware systems, and the emphasis on software is not intended to be exclusive.

Download or read book Software Languages written by Ralf Lämmel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-17 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies, defines and illustrates the fundamental concepts and engineering techniques relevant to applications of software languages in software development. It presents software languages primarily from a software engineering perspective, i.e., it addresses how to parse, analyze, transform, generate, format, and otherwise process software artifacts in different software languages, as they appear in software development. To this end, it covers a wide range of software languages – most notably programming languages, domain-specific languages, modeling languages, exchange formats, and specifically also language definition languages. Further, different languages are leveraged to illustrate software language engineering concepts and techniques. The functional programming language Haskell dominates the book, while the mainstream programming languages Python and Java are additionally used for illustration. By doing this, the book collects and organizes scattered knowledge from software language engineering, focusing on application areas such as software analysis (software reverse engineering), software transformation (software re-engineering), software composition (modularity), and domain-specific languages. It is designed as a textbook for independent study as well as for bachelor’s (advanced level) or master’s university courses in Computer Science. An additional website provides complementary material, for example, lecture slides and videos. This book is a valuable resource for anyone wanting to understand the fundamental concepts and important engineering principles underlying software languages, allowing them to acquire much of the operational intelligence needed for dealing with software languages in software development practice. This is an important skill set for software engineers, as languages are increasingly permeating software development.

Book FME 2001 Formal Methods for Increasing Software Productivity

Download or read book FME 2001 Formal Methods for Increasing Software Productivity written by Jose N. Oliveira and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FME 2001 is the tenth in a series of meetings organized every eighteen months by Formal Methods Europe (FME), an independent association whose aim is to stimulate the use of, and research on, formal methods for software development. It follows four VDM Europe Symposia, four other Formal Methods Europe S- posia, and the 1999 World Congress on Formal Methods in the Development of Computing Systems. These meetings have been notably successful in bringing - gether a community of users, researchers, and developers of precise mathematical methods for software development. FME 2001 took place in Berlin, Germany and was organized by the C- puter Science Department of the Humboldt-Universit ̈at zu Berlin. The theme of the symposium was Formal Methods for Increasing Software Productivity. This theme recognizes that formal methods have the potential to do more for industrial software development than enhance software quality { they can also increase productivity at many di erent points in the software life-cycle. The importance of the theme is borne out by the many contributed papers showing how formal methods can make software development more e cient. There is an emphasis on tools that nd errors automatically, or with relatively little human e ort. There is also an emphasis on the use of formal methods to assist with critical, labor-intensive tasks such as program design and test-case generation.

Book Model Checking Software

Download or read book Model Checking Software written by Susanne Graf and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-02-27 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1995, when the SPIN workshop series was instigated, SPIN workshops have been held on an annual basis in Montr ́ eal (1995), New Brunswick (1996), Enschede (1997), Paris (1998), Trento (1999), Toulouse (1999), Stanford (2000), Toronto (2001), Grenoble (2002) and Portland (2003). All but the ?rst SPIN workshop were organized as satellite events of larger conferences, in particular of CAV (1996), TACAS (1997), FORTE/PSTV (1998), FLOC (1999), the World Congress on Formal Methods (1999), FMOODS (2000), ICSE (2001, 2003) and ETAPS (2002). This year again, SPIN was held as a satellite event of ETAPS 2004. The co-location of SPIN workshops with conferences has proven to be very successful and has helped to disseminate SPIN model checking technology to wider audiences. Since 1999, the proceedings of the SPIN workshops have appeared in Springer-Verlag’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. The history of successful SPIN workshops is evidence for the maturing of model checking technology, not only in the hardware domain, but increasingly also in the software area. While in earlier years algorithms and tool development aroundtheSPINmodelcheckerwerethefocusofthisworkshopseries, forseveral years now the scope has been widened to include more general approaches to software model checking techniques and tools as well as applications. The SPIN workshop has become a forum for all practitioners and researchers interested in model checking based techniques for the validation and analysis of communication protocols and software systems.
