Book Development of a Novel Aerodynamic Solution to Mitigate Large Vibrations in Traffic Signal Structures

Download or read book Development of a Novel Aerodynamic Solution to Mitigate Large Vibrations in Traffic Signal Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural supports of signs, luminaires, and traffic signals are an integral part of the transportation system. The promising results in this analysis present an opportunity to address the longstanding issue of fatigue-related failures in traffic signal structures. The TRB Highway Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) Program's Development of a Novel Aerodynamic Solution to Mitigate Large Vibrations in Traffic Signal Structures considers “aerodynamic damping” as an active means to mitigate the large amplitude vibrations of these structures.

Book Wind Loads on Untethered span wire Traffic signal Poles

Download or read book Wind Loads on Untethered span wire Traffic signal Poles written by Sreenivas Alampalli and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was recently completed examining the validity of design procedures used in calculating loads on poles supporting traffic signals suspended from untethered span-wires. First, current New York State Department of Transportation design procedures were examined for their appropriateness and compliance with AASHTO specifications. A traffic-signal pole was then instrumented with load cells and a wind-speed monitor. Loads transferred to the pole from the span-wire and associated wind speeds were recorded over several months. These data were compared with corresponding loads calculated using 1) methods specified by AASHTO and 2) current methods used by the Department. This report summarizes the study and its results.
