Book Towards an Adventist Version of Communio Ecclesiology

Download or read book Towards an Adventist Version of Communio Ecclesiology written by Tihomir Lazić and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how Seventh-day Adventists, like other Christians, can benefit from generating their own version of communio ecclesiology. It starts by offering a critical analysis of the status quo of the existing Adventist portrayal of church as remnant, and suggests potential ways of moving this tradition forward. To articulate a more rounded and comprehensive vision of the church’s rich and multifaceted relational nature, this book draws on the mainstream Christian koinonia-based framework. Consequently, it provides possible solutions to some of the most divisive ecclesial issues that Christian communities face today regarding church structure, ministry, mission, communal interpretation, and reform. As it sets on a new footing the conversation between Adventism and other mainstream Christian traditions, the methodology of this book serves as a pathway for any Christian community to use when revisiting and enhancing its own current theologies of the church.

Book Stolen Churches or Bridges to Orthodoxy

Download or read book Stolen Churches or Bridges to Orthodoxy written by Vladimir Latinovic and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout their shared history, Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches have lived through a very complex and sometimes tense relationship – not only theologically, but also politically. In most cases such relationships remain to this day; indeed, in some cases the tension has increased. In July 2019, scholars of both traditions gathered in Stuttgart, Germany, for an unprecedented conference devoted to exploring and overcoming the division between these churches. This book, the first in a two-volume set of the essays presented at the conference, explores historical and theological themes with the goal of healing memories and inspiring a direct dialogue between Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches. Like the conference, the volume brings together representatives of these Churches, as well as theologians from different geographical contexts where tensions are the greatest. The published essays represent the great achievements of the conference: willingness to engage in dialogue, general openness to new ideas, and opportunities to address difficult questions and heal inherited wounds.

Book Adventist Interchurch Relations

Download or read book Adventist Interchurch Relations written by Stefan Höschele and published by V&R Unipress. This book was released on 2022-09-05 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents the first comprehensive analysis of Seventhday Adventist interchurch relations – a 20-million member body whose ecumenical stance has so far been underresearched. For the sake of interpreting denominational involvement and reservations in Adventism as well as beyond, the study develops a new academic approach to ecumenism based on Relational Models Theory, a comprehensive social science paradigm of interpreting human relationships. The resulting typology of ecumenical interactions and the historical case study of Adventism suggest that such a relational interpretation of ecumenical interaction sheds light on many of the unresolved issues in ecumenics – such as divergent concepts of unity, difficulties in recognition processes, and the permanence of denominationalism.

Book Seventh Day Adventism in Africa

Download or read book Seventh Day Adventism in Africa written by Gabriel Masfa and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the complex history of Adventism in Africa, situating it within the context of African traditions and culture. From a small movement with origins in the United States, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has grown worldwide. It is one of several Christian denominations present in Africa and yet the history of Seventh-day Adventism in the global South has been largely unexplored by scholars. The book highlights the discrepancies between western traditions exhibited in the missionary enterprise and African religious systems. It also explores the intricate relation between colonialism and African Adventism in line with established studies in African Christianity. It will be of interest to scholars of religion and theology, particularly church history and mission studies, as well as African studies.

Book The Body of Christ

  • Author : Reinder Bruinsma
  • Publisher : Review and Herald Pub Assoc
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 082802488X
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book The Body of Christ written by Reinder Bruinsma and published by Review and Herald Pub Assoc. This book was released on 2009 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a clear, straightforward definition such as this, the subject of the church isn't one that most people would consider a "doctrine." For this reason, there aren't many books that deal with this crucial fundamental belief. This very readable and informative treatment of such a vital topic fills an important gap in Adventist literature. Reinder Bruinsma's far-ranging look at the doctrine of the church moves from Old and New Testament foundations for this doctrine up through church government and on to controversial issues such as ordination and church discipline. Fittingly, he concludes with the mission and future of the church. His fourfold approach-biblical and theological, historical, practical, and with an Adventist perspective-ensures that every facet of the doctrine is explored in detail. This thought-provoking discussion challenges those who call themselves "God's people" to examine their current understanding of the church and to prayerfully consider their roles as part of the body of Christ. Book Church and Communion

    Book Details:
  • Author : Philip Goyret
  • Publisher : CUA Press
  • Release : 2022-01-21
  • ISBN : 0813234638
  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book Church and Communion written by Philip Goyret and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about ecumenism, from a Catholic point of view. The first part, chapters 1 and 2, describe the history of divisions within the Church, as well as of the efforts to bring about Christian unity. The second part examines Ecumenism from a systematic theological perspective. This first part takes into account the different factors that led to definitive ruptures within the Church, which usually are not only theological. The text gives useful information about what happened after the respective divisions as well as about the various attempts to restore unity, the development of the Ecumenical Movement in the 20th Century, and the current situation of ecumenical dialogue within the Catholic Church. While offering insight into the sad history that has led to the present disunity, this work also highlights the way Christians have sought to bring to fulfill the petition of Christ that his disciples might be one, as He and the Father are one. The second part―chapters three, four and five―offers a systematic theological analysis of unity in the Church, from the point of view of dogmatic theology. We find here an explanation of the Catholic concept of ecumenism, of how Catholic theology understands the unity of the Church, and, finally, of the Catholic principles which sustain the efforts for regaining unity in the Church. The Second Vatican Council, and particularly the Constitution Lumen gentium and the Decree Unitatis redintegratio, are at the foundation of these reflections. At the same time, since the theology of the Church and the life of the Church are intimately connected, there is a profound link between this dogmatic section and the earlier historical section. The last chapter, about the practice of ecumenism, is also written from a theological perspective, but with more links with life and spirituality. The chapter recalls that ecumenism can never simply remain a set of theological principles, but rather inspires an attitude and action in charity which are essential to the Christian life.

Book Communion Ecclesiology

Download or read book Communion Ecclesiology written by Dennis M. Doyle and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this new study Dennis Doyle notes that scholars as diverse as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and Edward Schillebeeckx have been quoted as saying that "communion ecclesiology" is the most basic way to characterize the nature of the church. Yet the term has often been caught up in the divide between left and right in a polarized church. Doyle shows that the notion of communion among God's people and between them and the triune God is a doctrine that allows for both solid, this-worldly community and a fundamental sense that the Church is essentially rooted in and convoked by God."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Continuity and Change in Adventist Teaching

Download or read book Continuity and Change in Adventist Teaching written by Rolf J. Pöhler and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first in-depth treatment of the problem of doctrinal development from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective. The author investigates the extent, nature, and direction of Adventist doctrinal developments in the light of the religious background of the church and the sociological forces at work in it. He also analyzes the response of the church to doctrinal adjustments and discusses Ellen White's involvement in and conception of doctrinal change. The study concludes that Adventist teachings have been significantly affected by theological and hermeneutical developments under the impact of sociological forces that tended to move the church closer towards evangelical Protestantism. Ellen White, co-founder of the church, was personally involved in theological change; her concept of doctrinal development reflects a remarkable depth of insight and represents a well-balanced approach to the subject.

When a person hurts, they often look to God. Several pathfinders give new light from their specialties, each one speaking powerfully, uniquely, and artfully from decades of experience. Dr. Amos Yong’s article on disability forwards the amazingly helpful term, “temporarily able-bodied.” Greek Orthodox Dr. Vasileios Thermos and Roman Catholic Dr. Robert Fastiggi enlighten next to the powerful testaments of Professor Godfrey Harold on South Africa and Dr. Samuel Yonas Deressa on Ethiopia. Each weathered author contributes universal insights into the grace of our great God and challenges pastors throughout the Christian world to kindly consider the heart of the afflicted. These finely hewn stones can be used by anyone in the ministry to sharpen their serve. Mattis and Maness offer this third collection from Testamentum Imperium with a prayer that these will open new avenues of sensitivity to the hearts and souls of those in travail and aid those who are called by God to serve those in pain.

Book Ecclesiology

  • Author : Mark W. Fenison
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation

  • ISBN : 1984521659
  • Pages : 1166 pages

Download or read book Ecclesiology written by Mark W. Fenison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 1166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of the church is one of the most divisive issues in Christendom. In this volume, Professor Fenison restricts his studies to Pre–New Testament and New Testament uses of the Greek term ekklesia. He then evaluates the more modern universal invisible church theory in its relationship to the historical usage of ekklesia and in its relationship to the very fundamental basics of biblical soteriology. In particular, Fenison demonstrates that this post-biblical theory is not inconsistent with regard to the primary consequence of the fall (spiritual death/separation) and its only possible fundamental solution (restoration to spiritual union with God). Fenison argues that ecclesiology was never part of that solution prior to the cross and is no part of that solution after the cross. Fenison totally repudiates church salvation in every form but insists that salvation consists in its most fundamental essence as restoration to spiritual union with God, which is affected by the internalized empowered gospel as the Spirit’s creative Word (2 Cor. 4:6; Jam. 1:18; Pet. 1:23,25) without any relationship to the church or its ordinances in any way, shape, or form.
