Book Toward a Homological Algebra of Automata I 1 the Representation and Completeness Theorem for Categories of Abstract Automata

Download or read book Toward a Homological Algebra of Automata I 1 the Representation and Completeness Theorem for Categories of Abstract Automata written by Yehoshafat Give'on and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper the author formulates the categorical theory of abstract automata. Two immediate basic problems are posed. First, one wonders how restricted the study of abstract automata is when one confines himself to those properties which are formulated by means of the notions of category theory only. This is a mathematical question whose answer should be proved. The author proves the completeness of the categorical study of abstract automata for a wide class of input monoids, a class which includes all types of monoids employed in the theory of finite automata. In order to get this result, a general representation theorem for abstract automata is derived. The second question is psychological. How well does the categorical study of automata suit our intuitions and our problems. The answers to such a problem is not a matter of proof. The development presented in this paper has convinced the author of the potentiality of this new approach toward automata. Thus, this paper serves as a prelude to a series of papers which will exploit homological and categorical algebra methods for the sake of a mathematical theory of automata. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monograph( based very largely upon results original to the Czechoslovakian authors) presents an abstract account of the theory of automata for sophisticated readers presumed to be already conversant in the language of category theory. The seven chapters are punctuated at frequent intervals by exampl

Book Finite Automata Their Algebras and Grammars

Download or read book Finite Automata Their Algebras and Grammars written by J. Richard Büchi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author, who died in 1984, is well-known both as a person and through his research in mathematical logic and theoretical computer science. In the first part of the book he presents the new classical theory of finite automata as unary algebras which he himself invented about 30 years ago. Many results, like his work on structure lattices or his characterization of regular sets by generalized regular rules, are unknown to a wider audience. In the second part of the book he extends the theory to general (non-unary, many-sorted) algebras, term rewriting systems, tree automata, and pushdown automata. Essentially Büchi worked independent of other rersearch, following a novel and stimulating approach. He aimed for a mathematical theory of terms, but could not finish the book. Many of the results are known by now, but to work further along this line presents a challenging research program on the borderline between universal algebra, term rewriting systems, and automata theory. For the whole book and again within each chapter the author starts at an elementary level, giving careful explanations and numerous examples and exercises, and then leads up to the research level. In this way he covers the basic theory as well as many nonstandard subjects. Thus the book serves as a textbook for both the beginner and the advances student, and also as a rich source for the expert.

Download or read book Homological Algebra written by Henri Cartan and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1999-12-19 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this book was written, methods of algebraic topology had caused revolutions in the world of pure algebra. To clarify the advances that had been made, Cartan and Eilenberg tried to unify the fields and to construct the framework of a fully fledged theory. The invasion of algebra had occurred on three fronts through the construction of cohomology theories for groups, Lie algebras, and associative algebras. This book presents a single homology (and also cohomology) theory that embodies all three; a large number of results is thus established in a general framework. Subsequently, each of the three theories is singled out by a suitable specialization, and its specific properties are studied. The starting point is the notion of a module over a ring. The primary operations are the tensor product of two modules and the groups of all homomorphisms of one module into another. From these, "higher order" derived of operations are obtained, which enjoy all the properties usually attributed to homology theories. This leads in a natural way to the study of "functors" and of their "derived functors." This mathematical masterpiece will appeal to all mathematicians working in algebraic topology.

Book An Introduction to Homological Algebra

Download or read book An Introduction to Homological Algebra written by Joseph J. Rotman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduate mathematics students will find this book an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to the subject. Rotman’s book gives a treatment of homological algebra which approaches the subject in terms of its origins in algebraic topology. In this new edition the book has been updated and revised throughout and new material on sheaves and cup products has been added. The author has also included material about homotopical algebra, alias K-theory. Learning homological algebra is a two-stage affair. First, one must learn the language of Ext and Tor. Second, one must be able to compute these things with spectral sequences. Here is a work that combines the two.

Download or read book Homological Algebra written by S.I. Gelfand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the first printing of which was published as volume 38 of the Encyclopaedia of Mathematical Sciences, presents a modern approach to homological algebra, based on the systematic use of the terminology and ideas of derived categories and derived functors. The book contains applications of homological algebra to the theory of sheaves on topological spaces, to Hodge theory, and to the theory of modules over rings of algebraic differential operators (algebraic D-modules). The authors Gelfand and Manin explain all the main ideas of the theory of derived categories. Both authors are well-known researchers and the second, Manin, is famous for his work in algebraic geometry and mathematical physics. The book is an excellent reference for graduate students and researchers in mathematics and also for physicists who use methods from algebraic geometry and algebraic topology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homological algebra was developed as an area of study almost 50 years ago, and many books on the subject exist. However, few, if any, of these books are written at a level appropriate for students approaching the subject for the first time. An Elementary Approach to Homological Algebra fills that void.
