Book The Electromagnetic Torques on Spherical Earth Satellites in a Rarefied Partially Ionized Atmosphere

Download or read book The Electromagnetic Torques on Spherical Earth Satellites in a Rarefied Partially Ionized Atmosphere written by Frank Hohl and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical investigation has been made of the torques acting, as a result of electromagnetic interaction, on spherical conducting earth satellites. The analysis has been applied to the 41-meter-diameter satellite Echo II (1964 4A), which is in a near polar circular orbit. The calculations have yielded quantitative values for the accelerating and the decelerating torques. A probable explanation of the nearly constant spin rate of Echo II for a long period of time is that the eddy-current torque and the induction torque were in balance. Other torques are shown to be negligible in comparison with these two.

Book Torques and Attitude Sensing in Earth Satellites

Download or read book Torques and Attitude Sensing in Earth Satellites written by S. Fred Singer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 7: Torques and Attitude Sensing in Earth Satellites focuses on the possible torques that can affect the angular momentum of an Earth satellite. This book provides an understanding of the environment in which a satellite operates. Organized into 16 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the application of force-free motion to space programs. This text then discusses the torque effects of a gravitational field, particularly with its gradient. Other chapters consider a particular method of gravity-gradient stabilization that utilizes a passive device to damp librations and thereby attain a vertical orientation. This book discusses as well the effects of the geomagnetic field on the angular motion of a satellite. The reader is also introduced to the method of magnetic attitude control employed in the Tiros satellite. The final chapter deals with the problem of horizon sensing, which is important for satellites requiring Earth stabilization. Astrophysicists will find this book useful.

Book A Theoretical Study of the Torques Induced by a Magnetic Field on Rotating Cylinders and Spinning Thin wall Cones Cone Frustums and General Body of Revolution

Download or read book A Theoretical Study of the Torques Induced by a Magnetic Field on Rotating Cylinders and Spinning Thin wall Cones Cone Frustums and General Body of Revolution written by George Louis Smith and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electromagnetic field equations are applied to nonferromagnetic conducting thin-wall cylinders, cones, and cone frustums, with extension to the general thin-wall body of revolution slowly spinning in a homogeneous magnetic field, in order to calculate the induced eddy currents and resulting torques. The solutions to these cases have direct application in calculating the magnetic torques tending to damp the rotation of spinning and tumbling satellites.

Book Effect of Environmental Torques on Short term Attitude Prediction for a Rolling wheel Spacecraft in a Sun synchronous Orbit

Download or read book Effect of Environmental Torques on Short term Attitude Prediction for a Rolling wheel Spacecraft in a Sun synchronous Orbit written by Ward F. Hodge and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical evaluation and an analysis of the effects of environmental disturbance torques on the attitude of a hexagonal cylinder rolling wheel spacecraft were performed. The resulting perturbations caused by five such torques were found to be very small and exhibited linearity such that linearized equations of motion yielded accurate results over short periods and the separate perturbations contributed by each torque were additive in the sense of superposition. Linearity of the torque perturbations was not affected by moderate system design changes and persisted for torque-to-angular momentum ratios up to 100 times the nominal expected value. As these conditions include many possible applications, similar linear behavior might be anticipated for other rolling-wheel spacecraft.

Book Hitting with Torque

Download or read book Hitting with Torque written by Paul F. Petricca and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Petricca draws on his experience as a coach, player, blogger, and student of baseball and softball to share what hes learned about hitting in this essential guide for players seeking dramatic results at the plate. The author presents easy to understand hitting mechanics highlighting how the engineering concept of torque can be applied to hitting and is often the difference between a weak groundball or a long home run. Topics covered include understanding where hitting power really comes from and the importance of increasing bat speed through the fundamentals of a repeatable and powerful rotational swing. Hitters of all ages who adopt his eight hitting keys will enjoy a dramatic increase in bat speed and power almost immediately. Hitting with Torque is more than a set of hitting mechanics---its a mindset. Readers will be challenged to look past the worn-out hitting theories and myths that have been holding back hitters from reaching their full potential. With an open mind and practice, all hitters can unlock the power and consistency that is Hitting with Torque.

Book Observed Torque producing Forces Acting on Satellites

Download or read book Observed Torque producing Forces Acting on Satellites written by Robert J. Naumann and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to the forces that influence the motion of the center of mass of a satellite, various forces are also present which influence the motion about the center of mass. These torque-producing forces may result in a change in satellite orientation that affects the thermal balance, operation of solar cells, various scientific measurements, and drag forces. This latter effect results in a coupling between the equations describing the orientation with those describing the orbital motion. Therefore, strictly speaking, the orientation problem is part of the orbital problem. To solve the orientation equations it is necessary to determine the nature of the torque-producing forces. This is done by observing the change in orientation of several Explorer satellites where the drag force is sufficiently small so the orbital dependence on orientation is negligible. It was found that the permanent magnetic moments in the satellites were the dominant effect responsible for the observed changes in orientation. Gravitational torques are also significant. The changes in orientation of the satellites considered were explained extremely well by these two effects, hence it is conculed that other effects are not significant for similar satellites. Various approximations used in this study greatly reduce the effor required to integrate the orientation equations and do not require the simultaneous solution of the orbital equations. The findings, however, are applicable to the simultaneous solution of both the orbital and orientation sets of equations.

Download or read book Multiple Muscle Systems written by Jack M. Winters and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The picture on the front cover of this book depicts a young man pulling a fishnet, a task of practical relevance for many centuries. It is a complex task, involving load transmission throughout the body, intricate balance, and eye head-hand coordination. The quest toward understanding how we perform such tasks with skill and grace, often in the presence of unpredictable pertur bations, has a long history. However, despite a history of magnificent sculptures and drawings of the human body which vividly depict muscle ac tivity and interaction, until more recent times our state of knowledge of human movement was rather primitive. During the past century this has changed; we now have developed a considerable database regarding the com position and basic properties of muscle and nerve tissue and the basic causal relations between neural function and biomechanical movement. Over the last few decades we have also seen an increased appreciation of the impor tance of musculoskeletal biomechanics: the neuromotor system must control movement within a world governed by mechanical laws. We have now col lected quantitative data for a wealth of human movements. Our capacity to understand the data we collect has been enhanced by our continually evolving modeling capabilities and by the availability of computational power. What have we learned? This book is designed to help synthesize our current knowledge regarding the role of muscles in human movement. The study of human movement is not a mature discipline.
