Placing all her hope in a new government program, she seizes the opportunity that offers a chance for the women of Earth to find love among the stars, on a world beyond the one they know. How many times can one man risk rejection? Would you give up on your dreams? Torkel Alonson has had enough of being ignored and looked over by females on his adopted home world of Enotia. His pride has suffered and he must accept the painful truth. Females will never choose a male with his evil lineage despite his honorable service to his government’s military. Book excerpt: Half-Argoran shifter, Arak O’tir knew good people existed. He worked with some of them. But as a deadly Jutak warrior, his work often took him into the less savory elements of society. So much so, he shielded his heart from those he rescued. That was, until one particular mission leaves him longing for a specific female. Someone who made him tremble even if she wasn’t from his world. Sylvia Forrester never expected her quest for a husband would lead her into danger. Nor could she have ever foreseen that her search would find her captured by aliens and added to a list of potential sex-slaves to be sold for a high profit. While her captors should have broken her, destroying any hope she’d had of a life happily-ever-after, Sylvia’s savior has her wondering if her earlier dreams could still come true. But Arak and Sylvia soon discover love and passion has its own price.

Book Control Theory

Download or read book Control Theory written by Torkel Glad and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook designed for an advanced course in control theory. Currently most textbooks on the subject either looks at "multivariate" systems or "non-linear" systems. However, Control Theory is the only textbook available that covers both. It explains current developments in these two types of control techniques, and looks at tools for computer-aided design, for example Matlab and its toolboxes. To make full use of computer design tools, a good understanding of their theoretical basis is necessary, and to enable this, the book presents relevant mathematics clearly and simply. The practical limits of control systems are explored, and the relevance of these to control design are discussed. Control Theory is an ideal textbook for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and the student will be helped by a series of exercises at the end of each chapter. Professional engineers will also welcome it as a core reference.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their inception, the Perspectives in Logic and Lecture Notes in Logic series have published seminal works by leading logicians. Many of the original books in the series have been unavailable for years, but they are now in print once again. This volume, the sixteenth publication in the Lecture Notes in Logic series, gives a sustained presentation of a particular view of the topic of Gödelian extensions of theories. It presents the basic material in predicate logic, set theory and recursion theory, leading to a proof of Gödel's incompleteness theorems. The inexhaustibility of mathematics is treated based on the concept of transfinite progressions of theories as conceived by Turing and Feferman. All concepts and results are introduced as needed, making the presentation self-contained and thorough. Philosophers, mathematicians and others will find the book helpful in acquiring a basic grasp of the philosophical and logical results and issues.

Book The Learning Brain

    Book Details:
  • Author : Torkel Klingberg
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press, USA
  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN : 0199917108
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book The Learning Brain written by Torkel Klingberg and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2013 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite all our highly publicized efforts to improve our schools, the United States is still falling behind. We recently ranked 15th in the world in reading, math, and science. Clearly, more needs to be done. In The Learning Brain, Torkel Klingberg urges us to use the insights of neuroscience to improve the education of our children. The key to improving education lies in understanding how the brain works: that is where learning takes place, after all. The book focuses in particular on working memory--our ability to concentrate and to keep relevant information in our head while ignoring distractions (a topic the author covered in The Overflowing Brain). Research shows enormous variation in working memory among children, with some ten-year-olds performing at the level of a fourteen-year old, others at that of a six-year old. More important, children with high working memory have better math and reading skills, while children with poor working memory consistently underperform. Interestingly, teachers tend to perceive children with poor working memory as dreamy or unfocused, not recognizing that these children have a memory problem. But what can we do for these children? For one, we can train working memory. The Learning Brain provides a variety of different techniques and scientific insights that may just teach us how to improve our children's working memory. Klingberg also discusses how stress can impair working memory (skydivers tested just before a jump showed a 30% drop in working memory) and how aerobic exercise can actually modify the brain's nerve cells and improve classroom performance. Torkel Klingberg is one of the world's leading cognitive neuroscientists, but in this book he wears his erudition lightly, writing with simplicity and good humor as he shows us how to give our children the best chance to learn and grow.
