Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not comforting; it does not reassure. It does not teach anything a decent person needs to know. It is a book about BDSM, but it will teach you nothing about tying knots, swinging floggers or spanking. It does not attempt to reach the vanilla public. This book addresses control, it addresses change. The recreational uses of humiliation, conditioning, psychological torture, hypnotism and interrogation techniques are explored and laid bare, broken into usable steps and understandable, applicable concepts. It is a workshop of ruin, the tools necessary to cement lasting alteration and unforgettable experiences for those few who truly crave them. Note: The is the "revisited" addition that includes additional transcriptions from classes and lectures as well as memorial content that sheds additional light on the author and his work.

Book excerpt: From the Introduction: "Until we clearly understand the true nature and purpose of Spirit baptism as presented by Luke in the book of Acts, we will never have a clear understanding of its accompanying sign-Spirit-enabled speaking in tongues. In this book I hope to demonstrate how Luke symbiotically links these two deeply spiritual experiences into a common missiological whole. I will attempt to unwrap Luke's missional understanding of speaking in tongues as presented in his two part history of Christian beginnings (Luke-Acts), and as intuitively grasped by early twentieth-century Pentecostals. In doing this, hope to begin to lay a biblical foundation concerning Luke's unique missional presentation of both the experience of Spirit baptism itself and of the missional sign that accompanies it."

Book excerpt: The charismatic movement is a major force in evangelicalism. Tongues-speaking is perhaps its most recognizable and controversial feature. In this book Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr., analyzes biblical tongues-speaking by investigating four questions: (1) What was the structural form of tongues? (2) What was the specific content of tongues? (3) What was the purpose of tongues? (4) How long were tongues intended to last? The author demonstrates from Scripture that tongues were a miraculous endowment whereby the gifted recipient could speak in a human language he had never studied and that they involved inspired revelation from God. He shows that tongues were given as a temporary feature of the period of overlap between the old covenant and the new covenant and that they were a sign of the coming destruction of the old covenant temple in Jerusalem. Tongues were intended only for that first century period.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS Shares the author's personal testimony and spiritual journey with speaking in tongues Examines the history of this gift in the church for the past two thousand years Interacts with those who have denied that this gift is valid for today's church Speaks to the relationship between Spirit baptism, Spirit filling, and the gift of tongues Few other issues have separated the church more than the issue of tongues. Sam Storms focuses on this controversial subject with his signature insights to theology and the gifts of the spirit. What does the gift giver say about the gift He gave? Storms seeks to bring balance to this subject in The Language of Heaven as he wrestles with this sensitive issue experientially as well as theologically. He ultimately provides a platform to allow God to speak for Himself as he addresses every text of Scripture on the subject and engages with every theological issue that speaking in tongues provokes. As a pastor, Storms knows the questions that the typical churchgoer is asking and provides clear and accessible answers to them all, including: Is the gift of tongues for every Christian or only some? How does the gift of tongues operate in the life of the believer individually in private practice? How does the gift of tongues operate in the corporate assembly of God's church? How is the Christian edified and strengthened by praying in tongues? How do I pray for the gift and prepare my heart to receive it? You can overcome the arguments, fears, and anxieties related to this spiritual gift. Remember, God gives only good gifts, and it is His intention that His church utilize all that He has provided so that we might experience all that He is.

Book excerpt: Find God’s vision for your job. Reclaim God’s vision for your life. Many Christians fall victim to one of two main problems when it comes to work: either they are idle in their work, or they have made an idol of it. Both of these mindsets are deadly misunderstandings of how God intends for us to think about our employment. In The Gospel at Work, Sebastian Traeger and Greg Gilbert unpack the powerful ways in which the gospel can transform how we do what we do, releasing us from the cultural pressures of both an all-consuming devotion and a punch-in, punch-out mentality—in order to find the freedom of a work ethic rooted in serving Christ. You’ll find answers to some of the tough questions that Christians in the workplace often ask: What factors should matter most in choosing a job? What gospel principles should shape my thinking about how to treat my boss, my co-workers, and my employees? Is full-time Christian work more valuable than my job? Is it okay to be motivated by money? How do you prioritize—or balance—work, family and church responsibilities? Solidly grounded in the gospel, The Gospel at Work confronts both our idleness at work and our idolatry of work with a challenge of its own—to remember that whom we work for is infinitely more important than what we do.

Book The Ten Commandments Revisited

Download or read book The Ten Commandments Revisited written by Tom Kingery and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-12-23 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some people hate rules, and they are free to do so. God created humans with free will. But God doesn’t want us to run wild. The Ten Commandments, which are repeated several times in the Bible, give us a roadmap on how to live life. But they are more than a moral code—and they are concerned with more than just appropriate conduct, correct values, and social order. They are a prescription for holiness, a spiritual life, and a life of faith. Looking beyond their prohibitive language reveals something about the will of God. For example, “Honor your father and mother” can imply the notion that we should not dishonor them. “Do not steal” can imply the notion of sharing and giving. By revisiting the Ten Commandments, Tom Kingery runs each law through a sieve that includes four perspectives important to the journey of faith—moral, ethical, social, and spiritual. By doing so, he breathes new life into the ancient laws. Reading this book will shed light on the path we take as we walk with God in obedience and loyalty.

Book The Gospel Revisited

  • Release : 2011-01-01
  • ISBN : 1606083449
  • Pages : 175 pages

Download or read book The Gospel Revisited written by Kenneth J. Archer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a constructive attempt at formulating a contemporary Pentecostal theology grounded in worship and witness. The theological vision expounded here is grounded in the Pentecostal story with its emphasis upon the fivefold Gospel. The doxological confession of Jesus as Savior, Sanctifier, Spirit Baptizer, Healer, and soon coming King provide the basic organizational structure of a Pentecostal narrative theology. Each chapter takes seriously these central convictions and allows them to shape, form, and reform various theological loci. Important issues such as methodology, hermeneutics, and theology as embodied worship and witness are addressed. The result is a vibrant and integrative theology fueled by a dynamic spirituality.

Book New Testament Miracle Stories in Ghanaian Mother Tongues

Download or read book New Testament Miracle Stories in Ghanaian Mother Tongues written by Abraham Boateng and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the translations of selected miracle stories from the Hebrew Bible, Septuagint (LXX) and the Greek New Testament into selected Ghanaian mother-tongues, considering possible shifts of meaning that occur in translating. 1Kings 18:25–38, Mark 9:14–29 and Luke 7:11–17 are used as case studies. The author draws out semiotic-hermeneutical nuances of these texts as they are understood in the Ghanaian context and addresses questions in the field of Biblical studies concerning the relevance of intercultural hermeneutics for current trends in Ghanaian Christianity. Particularly important is the high premium placed on ‘miracles’ in present-day Ghanaian spirituality, making a careful analysis of these stories particularly relevant for the Ghanaian audience. The study also explores several factors that influence the translation process and have a bearing on the reception and use of the text. It follows the growing calls for a shift in African Biblical hermeneutics from the theological heritage of Europe and America to the emerging theological trajectories of Africa. This post-colonial shift re-examines the translated text, moving from what the text might have meant to what the text might mean in Africa.
