Book Tomorrow s Economy

Download or read book Tomorrow s Economy written by Per Espen Stoknes and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How we can achieve healthy growth--more regenerative than destructive, restoring equity rather than exacerbating inequalities. In Tomorrow's Economy, Per Espen Stoknes reframes the hot-button issue of economic growth. Going beyond the usual dialectic of pro-growth versus anti-growth, Stoknes calls for healthy growth. Healthy economic growth is more regenerative than destructive, repairs problems rather than greenwashing them, and restores equity rather than exacerbating global inequalities. Stoknes--a psychologist, economist, climate strategy researcher, and green-tech entrepreneur--argues that we have the tools to achieve healthy growth, but our success depends on transformations in government practices and individual behavior. Stoknes provides a compass to guide us toward the mindset, mechanisms, and possibilities of healthy growth.

Book Tomorrow s Table

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pamela C. Ronald
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2008-04-18

Download or read book Tomorrow s Table written by Pamela C. Ronald and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-04-18 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the year 2050, Earth's population will double. If we continue with current farming practices, vast amounts of wilderness will be lost, millions of birds and billions of insects will die, and the public will lose billions of dollars as a consequence of environmental degradation. Clearly, there must be a better way to meet the need for increased food production. Written as part memoir, part instruction, and part contemplation, Tomorrow's Table argues that a judicious blend of two important strands of agriculture--genetic engineering and organic farming--is key to helping feed the world's growing population in an ecologically balanced manner. Pamela Ronald, a geneticist, and her husband, Raoul Adamchak, an organic farmer, take the reader inside their lives for roughly a year, allowing us to look over their shoulders so that we can see what geneticists and organic farmers actually do. The reader sees the problems that farmers face, trying to provide larger yields without resorting to expensive or environmentally hazardous chemicals, a problem that will loom larger and larger as the century progresses. They learn how organic farmers and geneticists address these problems. This book is for consumers, farmers, and policy decision makers who want to make food choices and policy that will support ecologically responsible farming practices. It is also for anyone who wants accurate information about organic farming, genetic engineering, and their potential impacts on human health and the environment.

Book An Inconvenient Future Tomorrow s Future Today

Download or read book An Inconvenient Future Tomorrow s Future Today written by Robert Byrum and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book How is mankind going to cope with an ever-increasingly warming world? The author presents, with many examples, strong evidence that the world is warming which will have profound effect on our lives and future generations. This has become the greatest issue of our times, actually of all times, and he has presented the evidence this is true. Humanity is on trial with little time left to recover before unrepairable damage occurs to our way of life and our ability to maintain a lasting livable Earth. This is not the message that political leaders, policy makers, or friends and neighbors want to hear. Unfortunately, it is the ultimate “Inconvenient Future”. About the Author Robert Byrum has lived a full and rewarding life of action, adventure, friendships, and lots of happiness. He was born and grew up in San Diego and moved to Montana in 1990, seeking a new horizon and a quality of life which he found. Following his passion for living and adventure has allowed him and his wife Nancy to enjoy traveling the world, witnessing other lands and people. They have had the pleasure of fishing and hunting in many locations and have enjoyed competing with their Labrador Retrievers. Writing has become a new hobby; this is his fourth book in the last two years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel, Surrender Tomorrow, is about a long bus trip where people are shown who they really are. They are upwardly mobile blacks who do not always make the best decisions. One of the main characters is Francois, who has one foot in the crime world and the other in the legit one. Francois has family that he has to impress, like his father, back home in Orlando, Florida, who look up to him. However, the mob is chasing him, and they are curious bunch with funny names like Cool Breeze from the old Blaxploitation movies from the seventies. And there is Surrender Tomorrow herself, who is a real woman, but you are never sure if she is not mobbed up. This novel started out by being a book of short stories. Right when you think you figured out who Francoiss father is and his involvement with a young woman, you get pulled right back into the caper. It is a ride of sorts that, when you read about crimes happening, one seldom guesses the characters. These are the characters, and they are a comical bunch. It goes to show how Francoiss family comes to grips with having a son who might be doing the wrong thing and traditional folkways of new immigrants migrating to America. For some people, they are willing to risk all for love, others money.

The young girls of Polk Ridge, Arkansas reunite in Tomorrow’s Promise to pick up the pieces of a friendship long ago abandoned. Jo, an Air Force Major and world traveler has returned home. Gina never left. That careless “friend request” on Facebook is about to have lasting consequences.
