Book excerpt: "A unique approach to understanding how you innately relate to handling money. A fascinating concept!" – Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages True financial well-being involves more than getting out of debt and accumulating wealth. It’s about discovering how you’re wired by God, and how that wiring influences the way you think about, feel toward, and handle money. Discovering your money type – whether you are an Abraham (hospitality), an Isaac (discipline), a Jacob (beauty), a Joseph (connection), a Moses (endurance), an Aaron (humility), or a David (leadership) – will bring greater self-awareness, reduce internal financial tension, help you resolve financial conflict with others, and help you grow financially from a faith-based perspective. As you walk with Pastor Brown through the Scriptures you’ll find holistic financial pathways that lead you to a place of increased awareness and confidence related to money. In The Seven Money Types, Pastor Tommy Brown leads you on a journey of personal discovery as he reveals the seven money types found in Scripture, helps you identify the type that best fits you by means of a 35-question assessment, and coaches you on understanding, affirming, developing, and enjoying your unique approach to money.

Book New York s Finest

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story about the lives of six men from the 'View' who formed a pact, and vowed they all would become the finest amongst New York's finest and survive to maintain the 'circle of friends' and the conflicts they endure when fighting crime involves their childhood friends. It is these types of relationships that are deeply rooted and sometime unexplainable. They are more than just oxymoron expressions. They depicted the good and the bad, the hero and the villain, the cop and the criminal that are rarely acknowledged as acceptable in our society because they bash anomalies that emerged in childhood socialized relationships, and takes shape long before we separate into the virtuous and the questionable. Consequently, there is evidence that the way they unfold are intuitive and instinctive qualities developed in order to survive, growing up in these mean streets. Little did they know that the brotherhood, the trust, the bond and strength of the 'circle' would be challenged and tested 'big time'? And in a way, they never imagined. In a way, that could destroy their 'brotherhood', possibly forever, as reported by the investigative journalist, Linda Acevedo, from the New York Daily News. She also was the lead reporter charge with uncovering who actually killed the three bank executives during a bank robbery. The story is also staged during the rescue, recovery, and compensation stages of 9/11 serving to create a complex set of circumstances surrounding the 'circle of friends'. Ms. Acevedo maintained... "The bank robbery and triple murders had to be planned for months in advanced, or perhaps even years, Ms. Acevedo would argue. This unknown suspect or suspects had to know that a meeting was planned and that all three of these victims had to be coming together at a designated time. That is, the same time the robbery was planned. "Perhaps the robbery was planned as a cover up," she would also pose to her readers as a viable question. The conflict experience throughout the story offers no comfort or envy for the officers faced with similar sets of circumstances. It has to place a tremendous burden on them, on a daily basis. Granted, they are law enforcement officers first. And upholding the law is supposed to be their motto, first and foremost. But the reality is that a law enforcement officer in New York City, like in many of America's cities, has to know how to 'roll'. And knowing how to 'roll' could very well mean, managing your health and safety for at the very least, another day, or not taking another brother's life, especially if you knew him and he grew up in the 'View'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in a small upper Midwestern town in the late 1930s, young Tommy MacAllister is scarcely aware of the Depression, much less the rumblings of war in Europe. For his parents and their set, life seems to revolve around dinners and dancing at the country club, tennis dates and rounds of golf, holiday parties, summers on the Island, and sparkling occasions full of people and drinks and food and laughter. But curious as he is and impatient to grow up, Tommy will soon come to glimpse the darkness that lies beneath so much genteel complacency: hidden histories and embarrassing poor relations; the subtle (and not so subtle) slighting of the “help”; the mockery of President Roosevelt; and “the commandment they talked least about in Sunday school,” adultery. In Testing the Current William McPherson subtly sets off his wide-eyed protagonist’s perspective with mature reflection and wry humor and surrounds him with a cast of vibrant characters, creating a scrupulously observed portrait of a place and time that will shimmer in readers’ minds long after the final page is turned.

Book excerpt: Antonio Grimaldi is fraught with desperation. He has only two choices: steal the most valuable Ferrari ever made and spend the rest of his life in prison, or have his wife and seven year old son killed by a vindictive assassin. The story begins with the priceless Ferrari GTO prototype being delivered to Genoa by two valued members of Enzo Ferrari’s inner circle, Antonio Grimaldi and Giancarlo Bandini. The GTO will be placed inside a watertight container aboard the SS Andrea Doria, for shipment to Chinetti Motors, a Ferrari dealership in New York City. But the Italian ocean liner sinks near Nantucket in the North Atlantic in July of 1956. Three generations later, Tommy Grimaldi’s best friend, Mike Bender, decides to spend his inheritance attempting to salvage the GTO. When Tommy learns that the name of the person who delivered the GTO to Genoa was also a “Grimaldi”, he and his good friend, Rebecca Ricci, research Tommy’s heritage. Not only do they learn the shocking truth about Antonio, they also uncover a deadly scheme involving Mike. GTO is an amazing story about courage and the ability to turn adversity into a meaningful and productive life. It is about being strong in the face of a devastating injustice and doing the right thing, no matter how compelling the circumstances are to do otherwise.

Book Bad Pennies and Dead Presidents

Download or read book Bad Pennies and Dead Presidents written by Jon Dietrick and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study closely analyzes key works by five pivotal playwrights: Sidney Kingsley, Arthur Miller, David Mamet, August Wilson, and Suzan-Lori Parks, in a comparison of the treatment of money in a range of American plays from the Great Depression to the early twenty-first century. Money emerges as a site of anxieties regarding the relation of signs to the real: a “monstrous” substance that seems to breed itself from itself; a dangerous abstraction that claims for itself a “hard” reality, transforming lived reality into an abstraction. At the same time, money’s self-generating properties have made it a serviceable metaphor for the American ideal of “self-making”; money’s ability to exchange means for ends, abstract for concrete, representation for real, has made it an emblem of our postmodern condition. Money has been conceived as a malevolent force robbing us of our natural relation to the world and to ourselves, and as an empowering one with which we may remake this relation. This ambivalence about money constitutes an important animating tension of American drama. Furthermore, anxieties surrounding money resemble in important ways anxieties surrounding theatre, and the plays’ treatment of money reveals interesting tensions between a persistent American dramatic realism and naturalism, and a philosophical and aesthetic postmodernism.
