He feels obligated to stay, especially as his mother's illness progresses. But when a situation presents itself in the form of a vintage sports car, he jumps on the chance to not only repair it, but also drive it to its new owner in LA. Conner Murphy left Oregon years ago to make his life in West Hollywood. Like his unconventional parents, he's always been a free spirit, never settling on one job or girl for too long. When he inherits his late uncle's classic Chevelle, he's more than happy to let his childhood friend Jamie help. Jamie and Conner are as different as night and day. Even after years of living apart, they still have a blast together-but now it's mixed with an undeniable spark of attraction. Before they know it, they can't keep their hands off each other. For Conner it's all new and exciting, but Jamie isn't the type of guy who takes this sort of intimacy lightly. Conner soon realizes that Jamie quenches something deep inside of him that no one has before, but he doesn't know how to handle a real relationship. As Jamie's time in LA comes to an end, and the more they struggle to get on the same page about their feelings, the more Jamie realizes that trying to tie Conner down is as futile as capturing the sun.

Deftly written and utterly addictive, this Western literary horror debut will find a home with fans of authors like Joe Hill, Cormac McCarthy, and Anne Rice. One night in 1980, a man becomes a monster. Haunted by his past, Travis Stillwell spends his nights searching out women in West Texas honky-tonks. What he does with them doesn’t make him proud, just quiets the demons for a little while. But after Travis crosses paths one night with a mysterious pale-skinned girl, he wakes weak and bloodied in his cabover camper the next morning—with no sign of a girl, no memory of the night before. Annabelle Gaskin spies the camper parked behind her motel and offers the cowboy a few odd jobs to pay his board. Travis takes her up on the offer, if only to buy time, to lay low and heal. By day, he mends the old motel, insinuating himself into the lives of Annabelle and her ten-year-old son. By night, in the cave of his camper, he fights an unspeakable hunger. Before long, Annabelle and her boy come to realize that this strange cowboy is not what he seems. Half a state away, a grizzled Texas Ranger is hunting Travis for his past misdeeds, but what he finds will lead him to a revelation far more monstrous. A man of the law, he’ll have to decide how far into the darkness he’ll go for the sake of justice. When these lives converge on a dusty autumn night, an old evil will find new life—and new blood.

Six years later, Selene is back in Dunsmuir and the boy she spent years loving in silence, has now turned into a man. A man with his sights set on her. Somehow, the tables have turned, and this time around, he's the one doing the chasing, determined to claim her heart as his. Only, he doesn't realize, she has a secret of her own. His only respite from this marital entrapment comes in the form of regular forays to a secluded beach with his Collie-Spaniel cross, Henry. That is until one day when a chance encounter with a beautiful stranger named Cerys Sindon changes everything. As Sally’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and causes her relationship with her husband to deteriorate, Eddie prepares to embark on the ultimate betrayal with the captivating Cerys. But the sudden death of his father figure and the sentiments of his good friend focus Eddie’s attention on a revaluation of what is central to his life and what will make him happy. In his desperate search for answers, Eddie is drawn into the world of the medium Ignatius McKenzie and the personal revelations he presents, which have far reaching implications for both Eddie and Cerys, and a dark secret that she conceals. Inspired by the work of John Irving and Colin Bateman, Chasing the Sun with Henry explores the effect of tragedy and change on a relationship. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Finnish author of Troll: A Love Story delivers a work of “scathing satire . . . that sits somewhere between Margaret Atwood and Kurt Vonnegut” (NPR). The Core of the Sun further cements Finlandia Award–winning author Johanna Sinisalo’s reputation as a master of literary speculative fiction and of her country’s unique take on it, dubbed “Finnish weird.” In an alternative historical present, The Eusistocratic Republic of Finland has bred a new human sub-species of receptive, submissive women, called eloi, for sex and procreation, while intelligent, independent women are relegated to menial labor and sterilized so that they do not carry on their “defective” line. Vanna, raised as an eloi but secretly intelligent, needs money to find her sister, who has disappeared. Vanna forms a friendship with a man named Jare, and they become involved in buying and selling a stimulant known to the Health Authority to be extremely dangerous: chili peppers. Then Jare comes across a strange religious cult in possession of the Core of the Sun, a chili so hot that it is rumored to cause hallucinations—a temptation so enticing that it just might divert the addicted Vanna from her quest . . . “A chilling tale reminiscent of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale . . . A fascinating story centered on gender politics.” —The Washington Post
