Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Conference of the International Society for the Study of Time was held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut at Oberwolfach in the Black Forest, Federal Republic of Germany from Sunday, 31 August to Saturday, 6 September, 1969. The origin of this conference and the formation of the Society goes back to a proposal due to J. T. Fraser that was discussed at a conference on "Interdisciplinary Perspectives of Time" held by the New York Academy of Sciences in January, 1966. It was unanimously agreed than that an international society should be formed on an interdisciplinary basis with the object of stimulating interest in all problems concerning 'time and that this object could best be attained by means of conferences held at regular intervals. J. T. Fraser was elected Secretary, S. Watanabe Treasurer, and I was elected President. It was agreed, at my suggestion, that the organization of the first conference of the newly formed Society be left to a committee of these three officers, on the understanding that they would invite authorities on the role of time in the various special sciences and humanities to form an Advisory Board to assist them. One of the main difficulties in seeking support for an interdisciplinary conference is that most foundations confine their interest exclusively either to the sciences or to the humanities.

Book Time in Organizational Research

Download or read book Time in Organizational Research written by Robert A. Roe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-09-09 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today there is widespread awareness of the fact that time has been under-investigated in organizational studies. This book addresses the need to bridge the gap between the predominantly "timeless" theories and models that scholars have produced and the daily experiences of employees and managers, in which time is salient and extremely important. These chapters offer a broad range of concepts, models, and methods that are tailored to this purpose. The first part of the book is devoted to the way in which people in organizations manage time, summarizing research findings, presenting novel ideas on a broad range of issues and examining issues such as whether time can be managed, how people are affected by deadlines and how do strategic changes in organizations affect individuals’ careers and sense of identity. The second part is about time as embedded in collective behaviours and experiences, and in temporal regimes linked to organizational structures. It discusses ways to study such collective patterns and their relationships to management practices, and addresses topics such as sensemaking of dynamic events, rhythmic patterns and their impact on organizational effectiveness, time in industrial relations, and power and temporal hegemony. A third part with a single concluding chapter looks at possibilities for integrating the various approaches and provides suggestions for future research. This book adopts a pluralistic approach, arguing against timeless conceptions in organizational theory and behaviour and instead emphasising the importance of temporal analysis.

Book Time and Motion Study

Download or read book Time and Motion Study written by Jack Greene and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the Kindle Store version, please refer to http: //www.amazon.com/Time-and-Motion-Study-ebook/dp/B00FAOX1I4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1379779548&sr=1-1&keywords=Time+and+Motion+Study How long does the job take? Arguably, this is the most valuable fact for a business to know because it determines capacity, productivity, profit or loss. Both direct and indirect labor costs rely on the required time, as do output, crew sizes, staffing, schedules, product cost, transfer prices, constraints, workload balance, on and on. Let's also suggest that the answer must be both accurate and objective. Time study is the basis of accuracy for management measurement, and is applied to resolve disagreement should they occur. Chapters include: Operating practice for labor operations Benefits of work measurement, Which measurement technique? Employee incentive pay If you only read one work measurement The art of the time study The art of work sampling The special case of construction piece rates Other important aspects of work measurement A model plan to establish work measurement Formal incentives administration Methods and workplace checklists for improvement Work measurement glossary Useful forms and worksheets An extra section on Capacity, Utilization and Constraints is included, to enable the reader to identify and relieve bottlenecks in the first place, then to manage constraints. Capacity activity depends very heavily on work measurement, to locate causes and relieve them. Chapters include: Capacity, utilization, constraints; in the context of business operations Manage constraints, by boardroom and policy actions Operating factors affect utilization Maximize capacity, manage constraints, on the floor Apply the capacity, constraint, and utilization data As with other professions, work measurement proficiency is gained through training and experience. This book explains very specifically what to do, why it is necessary, and how to do it; not only study techniques themselves, but also management and control actions to implement work measurement. Buy it for both practitioners and managers, as each will learn from the guidance contained. The text of this book is included in "Industrial Engineering: Theory, Practice, and Application," by Jack Greene, as are texts of "Cost Reduction In Business Management" and "Plant Layout and Design Edition Two."

Book Working with Time in Qualitative Research

Download or read book Working with Time in Qualitative Research written by Keri Facer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection brings together researchers and scholars from across the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences who are actively exploring the many different ways in which time might be understood, imagined and used in qualitative research. Taken together, the contributions begin to trace the contours of what it might mean to work reflexively with time as an epistemologically constitutive element of research design. The book explores how the choice to work with pasts or futures, with speed or delay, with clocks or the time of the body, with utopias or failed futures (among other things) reframe how social and cultural phenomena are perceived and brought into existence in qualitative research. Drawing on fields as disparate as futures studies and history, literary analysis and urban design, utopian studies and science and technology studies, this collection serves as a resource for both new and experienced researchers in the humanities and social sciences. It is a critically important resource for beginning to explore the wide repertoire of theoretical and methodological tools for working with time in the research process. The book also draws attention to the way that institutional research timescapes – from university workload patterns to funding processes and project timescales – themselves shape how and what it is possible to know in and about the world. It concludes with a rousing manifesto for scholars and researchers, proposing 10 key attributes of temporally reflexive research.

The authors break down the steps of defining WIN and "what" and "why" you need to provide interventions and enrichments for your students. WIN Time will equip you with ideas and inspire you to take action to transform your campus. These very ideas transformed our school from low-performing to being awarded the prestigious National Blue Ribbon by the U.S. Department of Education for our progress in closing the achievement gaps. This book is designed to be a practical-based approach to leadership, designed around a proven learner-centered approach. The proven learner-centered "What I Need" intervention system is outlined in detail within the book and sets the stage for how this book is designed for your leadership solutions. Lessons learned from seasoned administrators are discussed and outlined throughout the book to help the reader reflect and apply scenarios to their own schools. Each chapter concludes with a problem-based scenario that allows the learner to walk through a provided roadmap to help design a solution to an issue in their school. This book will hopefully be "What You Need" to spark a thoughtful solution to an area of struggle on your leadership journey. True professional growth is acquired through reflection. We feel this book provides the spark for reflection in some common areas where we have struggled in our leadership experience. A true learner-centered school is composed of professionals with a passion for learning. If we, as educators, can model a love for learning, it sends a powerful message to the students. I have learned many lessons over the past twenty years as an administrator. Hopefully, some of the lessons shared in the book will make your journey a little easier. Remember to be your best self, build relationships, be grateful, lead with passion, and always model a love for learning. - Morris Lyon, Superintendent, and Author I believe successful schools must have strong and effective leaders. The fundamental purpose of writing this book is to assist you as you transform your school into a true, high-performing school and to help you improve student achievement and learning. I hope that by sharing our experiences and what we have learned, we can help you on this journey. - Stephanie McConnell, Principal, Author, and Owner of Principal Principles
