Book Distributed Algorithms for Resource Allocation in Multi hop Random Access Wireless Networks

Download or read book Distributed Algorithms for Resource Allocation in Multi hop Random Access Wireless Networks written by Nikhil Singh and published by ProQuest. This book was released on 2009 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fair resource allocation is an effective strategy to provide optimal congestion control and scheduling in ad hoc wireless networks. We present distributed flow-based access schemes for slotted-time protocols, that guarantee proportional fairness in ad hoc wireless networks in the framework of nonlinear optimization. A proportionally fair medium access control algorithm maximizes the product over all flows of an appropriate flow-based performance function.

Book Throughput and Delay Optimization in Interference limited Multihop Networks

Download or read book Throughput and Delay Optimization in Interference limited Multihop Networks written by Ahmed Bader and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The performance of a multihop wireless network is typically affected by the interference caused by transmissions in the same network. In a statistical fading environment, the interference effects become harder to predict. Information sources in a multihop wireless network can improve throughput and delay' performance of data streams by implementing interference-aware packet injection mechanisms. Forcing packets to wait at the head of queues and coordinating packet injections among different sources enable effective control of co-packet interference. In this thesis. thronghpnt and delay performance in interference-limited multi-hop networks is analyzed. Using non-linear probabilistic hopping models, waiting times which jointly optimize throughput and delay performances are derived. Optimal coordinated injection strategies are also investigated as functions of the number of information sources and their separations. Obtained results provide guidelines for the placement nf relay nodes in multi-hop wireless networks.

Book Power Scheduling for Multi hop Wireless Networks

Download or read book Power Scheduling for Multi hop Wireless Networks written by Yuan Yu and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-hop wireless networks remain an important research frontier of wireless communications. Multi-hop wireless networks are rapidly deployable to extend the coverage of the Internet, which can be an economical alternative to building new base stations. Multi-hop wireless networks are particularly useful for first responders for disaster relief, and military operations in battlefields. In this thesis, we study power scheduling issues for multi-hop wireless networks. Power scheduling, also known as medium access control consisting of link scheduling, power control and source beamforming, fundamentally governs the capacity of multi-hop wireless networks. In the first part of this thesis, the achievable network throughput of large-scale multi-hop wireless networks is evaluated under a power scheduling scheme called opportunistic synchronous array method (O-SAM). Under O-SAM, a large network is partitioned into many small subnets, and within each subnet, the link with best channel gain is scheduled for transmission. We examine the impact of traffic load, network topology and multiple antennas on the achievable network throughput. Compared with slotted ALOHA, the throughput of O-SAM is significantly higher. In addition to O-SAM, a distributed synchronous array method (D-SAM) is proposed, and its performance is also evaluated. In the second part of this thesis, we focus on the power scheduling problem for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) relay networks. A generalized water filling (GWF) theorem is established for link rate maximization with multiple power constraints. The corresponding GWF algorithm is a fast solution to an important class of convex optimization problems. The GWF algorithm is a useful building block for joint source and relay optimization for a multiuser MIMO relay network. We study the power scheduling problems for both uplink and downlink cases of the multiuser MIMO relay network. A number of computational strategies are proposed to maximize the sum rate subject to power constraints or to minimize the sum power subject to rate constraints.

Book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks written by Wuyi Yue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapidly increasing penetration of laptop computers and mobile phones, which are primarily used by mobile users to access Internet s- vices like e-mail and World Wide Web (WWW) access, support of Internet services in a mobile environment is an emerging requirement. Wireless n- works have been used for communication among fully distributed users in a multimedia environment that has the needs to provide real-time bursty traffic (such as voice or video) and data traffic with excellent reliability and service quality. To satisfy the huge wireless multimedia service demand and improve the system performance, efficient channel access methods and analytical methods must be provided. In this way very accurate models, that faithfully reproduce the stochastic behavior of multimedia wireless communication and computer networks, can be constructed. Most of these system models are discrete-time queueing systems. Queueing networks and Markov chains are commonly used for the p- formance and reliability evaluation of computer, communication, and m- ufacturing systems. Although there are quite a few books on the individual topics of queueing networks and Markov chains, we have found none that covers the topics of discrete-time and continuous-time multichannel mul- traffic queueing networks. On the other hand, the design and development of multichannel mul- hop network systems and interconnected network systems or integrated n- works of multimedia traffic require not only such average performance m- sures as the throughput or packet delay but also higher moments of traffic departures and transmission delay.

  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book Age of Information written by Yin Sun and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information usually has the highest value when it is fresh. For example, real-time knowledge about the location, orientation, and speed of motor vehicles is imperative in autonomous driving, and the access to timely information about stock prices and interest rate movements is essential for developing trading strategies on the stock market. The Age of Information (AoI) concept, together with its recent extensions, provides a means of quantifying the freshness of information and an opportunity to improve the performance of real-time systems and networks. Recent research advances on AoI suggest that many well-known design principles of traditional data networks (for, e.g., providing high throughput and low delay) need to be re-examined for enhancing information freshness in rapidly emerging real-time applications. This book provides a suite of analytical tools and insightful results on the generation of information-update packets at the source nodes and the design of network protocols forwarding the packets to their destinations. The book also points out interesting connections between AoI concept and information theory, signal processing, and control theory, which are worthy of future investigation.
