Book Thoughts on the Genesis of the Universe Science and the Divine Spiritual World

Download or read book Thoughts on the Genesis of the Universe Science and the Divine Spiritual World written by Thomas Bridge and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a partial summary of the ongoing quest by mankind to understand who he is, where he came from, how he relates to what his senses tell him about his physical and social environment. Does the continuum of change he experiences have a purpose other than what he gives it? His methods of inquiry and observations using created instruments and experimentation have allowed him to discover some of the history of the universe since the beginning of space-time. Also, the interpretation of the earth's history recorded in the rocks and rock structures, the history of life recorded as fossils in time rock sequences, and their relation to present day living forms and associated environments has become more clear as to man's place in the history of space-time. All these studies have led to a better understanding of how energy drives the forces at work that produce the ever changing present. What are changes in the future, that are believed by some, to be even more remarkable than the amazing physical changes and processes that have been observed in the history of space-time

Book excerpt: The Latest Scientific Discoveries Point to an Intentional Creator Most of us remember the basics from science classes about how Earth came to be the only known planet that sustains complex life. But what most people don't know is that the more thoroughly researchers investigate the history of our planet, the more astonishing the story of our existence becomes. The number and complexity of the astronomical, geological, chemical, and biological features recognized as essential to human existence have expanded explosively within the past decade. An understanding of what is required to make possible a large human population and advanced civilizations has raised profound questions about life, our purpose, and our destiny. Are we really just the result of innumerable coincidences? Or is there a more reasonable explanation? This fascinating book helps nonscientists understand the countless miracles that undergird the exquisitely fine-tuned planet we call home--as if Someone had us in mind all along.

Book God of Becoming and Relationship

Download or read book God of Becoming and Relationship written by Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson, DHL and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You no longer have to choose between what you know and what you believe—an accessible introduction to a theological game-changer. "I wrote this book for you if you want to be able to locate your life in a single, encompassing story, one that includes everything from the first moment the universe began until yesterday, a narrative that embraces deepest personal meaning, a yearning to love and be loved, a quest for social justice and compassion." —from the Introduction Much of what you were told you should believe when you were younger forces you to choose between your spirit and your intellect, between science and religion, between morality and dogma: unchanging laws of nature vs. miracles that sound magical; a good God vs. the tragedies that strike all living creatures; a God who knows the future absolutely vs. an open future that you help to shape through your choices. This fascinating introduction to Process Theology from a Jewish perspective shows that these are false choices. Inspiring speaker, spiritual leader and philosopher Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson presents an overview of what Process Theology is and what it can mean for your spiritual life. He explains how Process Theology can break you free from the strictures of ancient Greek and medieval European philosophy, allowing you to see all creation not as this or that, us or them, but as related patterns of energy through which we connect to everything. Armed with Process insights and tools, you can break free from outdated religious dichotomies and affirm that your religiosity, your spirit, your mind and your ethics all strengthen and refine each other.

Download or read book The Model of Everything written by Ralph Brown and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-01-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When humanity questions the purpose of existence, they often turn to science or religion for answers. Unfortunately, both science and religion contain inconsistencies. These inconsistencies touch the human spirit in the most profound ways, resulting in an uneasiness about life. "Do I really have a purpose?" Seeking to address the spiritual unease, the history of humanity documents the development and pursuit of religion with a concept of a divine creator with a plan for humanity. However, in more recent history with an increasing emphasis on scientific knowledge, the concept of a divine creator is increasingly discounted as inconsistent with the material world revealed by scientific discovery. Via the scientific method, humanity is turning its focus to the material world, creating new gods of science and the purveyors of scientific knowledge. But rather than provide definitive answers, as science continues to advance, the theories of creation point increasingly to inconclusive and inconsistent results. These shortcomings of science are often veiled in the expression "Someday, we will know," but many in the scientific community are beginning to question that hope. With science and religion each plagued with inconsistency, perhaps appropriately integrating them will lead us to the real answers we seek! The Model of Everything-A Divine Universe relies on both scientific and biblical knowledge to fully integrate science and religion in a consistent, complementary, and interdependent fashion. This confluence and synergy of knowledge reveal a comprehensive model that accounts for the totality of human existence-the physical and spiritual. The reader, via personal and straightforward experiments, participates in developing the model. Biblical knowledge is the pointer for a unique application of scientific knowledge. Then, the incredible and sometimes bizarre world of science reveals how God teaches us about our existence and spirituality. The integration of scientific and biblical knowledge results in several new mental constructs, providing an account for the totality of creation-the material and immaterial-and a genuine hope and understanding of personal existence. The model presents some eye-popping implications and applications as well as predictions on future scientific progress and outcomes. Each reader is invited and encouraged to become a scientist; a scientist prepared to chart a life-changing personal discovery.

Download or read book The Quantum Genesis written by Alessandro Candeas and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-12-19 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is quantum science able to help us understand the creation of the universe and shed light on the narrative presented by the book of Genesis? If Hamlet lived in our century, he would say that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of not only in our philosophy, but also in our science. This may be felt today because the Newtonian paradigm that frames our experiences and our common sense is being challenged by the more complex paradigms of relativity and quantum, field and superstring theories. As a consequence, our world views and religious frameworks are also invited to evolve accordingly. "The Quantum Genesis: the creation of the universe according to a quantum reading of the Bible" is an attempt to contribute to a new dialogue between religion and science. It proposes an innovative look at the first verses of Genesis according to the post-Newtonian paradigm, which embraces quantum field and string theories. Its chapters offer a new reading of the following narratives: 1) "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth"; 2) And God said, "Let there be light"; 3) "Let there be the firmament"; 4) "Let the Earth bring forth the living creature"; 5) "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness"; 6) "And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good." Indeed, scientific breakthroughs have rushed into fields previously monopolized by religion and philosophy. Paradigm shifts have moved science away from the tangible and concrete, drawing it to the conceptual, the subtle. Religious mysteries like eternity, omnipresence, interpenetration between energy and matter, conscious power over reality and unity of beings may find compatibilities with quantum theory. Features previously considered antiscientific heresies or mysticism now form a part of an explanatory framework of a more sophisticated science that shakes the pillars of materialism, determinism, mechanicism and the objectivism of classical science. The 21st century may witness the convergence between science and religion, between reason and faith, taking into account the advancements of the first toward more subtle, intangible and complex accomplishments that challenge common sense and daily experiences, and the growing tolerance and open mindedness of the latter. Divergences between science and religion may be put together in two dilemmas: theism versus naturalism and materialism versus spiritualism. The book argues that both dilemmas are false, and that everything is intertwined within the framework of the "intelligent design" thesis. Open-minded physics have been stressing the convergence between quantum theory - particularly cosmic interconnection and unity - and aspects of Taoism, Hinduism and Brahmanism. Nevertheless, this convergence has not been deeply studied in Christianity and Judaism, in spite of the broad possibilities of links with the Holy Scriptures. That is what this book tries to accomplish, exploring bridges with the quantum fields of energy ("heavens," "earth" and "heavenly waters"), from before the Big Bang itself all the way to the making of man, while also considering the creation of light and of life itself. It may be of interest of not only religious readers, but also of scientists, atheists, agnostics and the general public.

Book The Nature of Creation

Download or read book The Nature of Creation written by Mark Harris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is generally assumed that science and religion are at war. Many now claim that science has made religious belief redundant; others have turned to a literalist interpretation of biblical creation to reject or revise science; others try to resolve Darwin with Genesis. "The Nature of Creation" addresses this complex debate by engaging with both modern science and biblical scholarship together. Creation is central to Christian theology and the Bible, and has become the chosen battleground for scientists, atheists and creationists alike. "The Nature of Creation" presents a sustained historical investigation of what the creation texts of the Bible have to say and how this relates to modern scientific ideas of beginnings. The book aims to demonstrate what science and religion can share, and how they differ and ought to differ.

Book Evolution Scripture and Nature Say Yes

Download or read book Evolution Scripture and Nature Say Yes written by Denis Lamoureux and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians throughout history have believed that God reveals himself both through Scripture and nature. The metaphor of God’s Two Books is often used to represent these two divine revelations. The Book of God’s Words is the Bible. Scripture reveals inerrant spiritual truths. These include, the God of Christianity is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the creation is very good, and only humans are created in the Image of God (Gen. 1:1, 27, 31). The Book of God’s Works is the physical world. Nature declares God’s glory, eternal power, and divine nature (Ps. 19:1; Rom. 1:20). Through the gift of science, our Creator has blessed us with the ability to explore and understand the structure, operation, and origin of his creation. Together God’s Two Books offer us a complementary divine revelation of who created the world and how he created it. A majority of Americans view science and religion as being in conflict, according to the Pew Research Center. Christians and non-Christians alike share this view, yet if this perceived conflict misrepresents the relationship between modern science and Christian faith, then it is both unhelpful and unnecessary today. In Evolution: Scripture and Nature Say Yes, theologian and scientist Denis O. Lamoureux reviews several options for embracing biblical Christianity and findings of science, including biological evolution. Holding to a high view of Scripture alongside an expert appreciation for scientific discovery, Lamoureux further outlines a way to understand passages referring to the natural world in the Bible and also demonstrates how modern science can point toward God. Lamoureux shares his own story along the way, recounting struggles many readers will relate to on his journey toward PhDs in both theology and biology and a fruitful relationship between the two. Topics in this book include: A biblical model of intelligent design in nature based on Psalm 19 and Romans 1. Examination of the ancient science in Scripture, such as a flat earth and 3-tier universe. Comparison of different Christian views on origins—young earth creation, progressive creation (old earth creation), and evolutionary creation. Criticisms of the atheistic interpretation of evolution held by Richard Dawkins and his belief that intelligent design is merely an illusion. Galileo’s peaceful relationship between Scripture and nature, including his view that “the intention of the Holy Spirit [in the Bible] is to teach us how one goes to heaven, and not how heaven goes.” Darwin’s religious beliefs and evidence of the impact that intelligent design had on him throughout his life, along with his claim, “It seems to me absurd to doubt that a man may be an ardent Theist [personal God] and an evolutionist.” Believers wanting to honor God’s Two Books—Scripture and Nature—faithfully and without conflict will find an excellent introduction in Evolution: Scripture and Nature Say Yes.

Download or read book The Cosmic Pilgrim written by Margaret MacIntyre and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cosmic Pilgrim is an introduction to the world of eco-theology. Based on the vision of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, it describes the nature of reality in our Cosmos that is continually unfolding within our expanding consciousness, and the journey, the pilgrimage, of the universe through space and time toward its consummate destiny within the fullness of God. This radical, evolutionary perspective is part of the new story of science and religion. Mathematical cosmologist and visionary Brian Swimme is the chosen guide to this new cosmology, and his insights form the continuing thread of the book. His mentor, Thomas Berry, is well represented here, as are other great thinkers from the realms of science and theology: Jurgen Moltmann, Alfred North Whitehead, C. S. Lewis, John Polkinghorne, and John Haught. The Cosmic Pilgrim presents a personal, easy-to-grasp map of the current interface between ecology, religion, and science. It aims to develop a spirituality that is grounded in the present struggle of moving beyond our Earth-damaging, industrial mindset toward a higher vision of vibrant planetary community. At the same time it seeks out the wider horizon of ultimate meaning and ponders the mystery of the far future and our cosmic destiny. Although the book reflects the author's Christian background, it is nonsectarian in approach and could be enjoyed by any seeker interested in developing a "green" spirituality.

Book Seven Days That Divide the World

Download or read book Seven Days That Divide the World written by John C. Lennox and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2011-08-23 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What did the writer of Genesis mean by “the first day”? Is it a literal week or a series of time periods? If I believe that the earth is 4.5 billion years old, am I denying the authority of Scripture? In response to the continuing controversy over the interpretation of the creation narrative in Genesis, John Lennox proposes a succinct method of reading and interpreting the first chapters of Genesis without discounting either science or Scripture. With examples from history, a brief but thorough exploration of the major interpretations, and a look into the particular significance of the creation of human beings, Lennox suggests that Christians can heed modern scientific knowledge while staying faithful to the biblical narrative. He moves beyond a simple response to the controversy, insisting that Genesis teaches us far more about the God of Jesus Christ and about God’s intention for creation than it does about the age of the earth. With this book, Lennox offers a careful yet accessible introduction to a scientifically-savvy, theologically-astute, and Scripturally faithful interpretation of Genesis.

Book God s Gift of the Universe

Download or read book God s Gift of the Universe written by Paul O'Callaghan and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many ways of understanding the reality of the world we live in and experience. Science, philosophy, art all offer us ample descriptions, explanations and intuitions. But Christian believers go beyond all that, for they attempt to understand the origins of the universe in terms of the creation of the world by God. Revelation tells us what God had in mind when he made the world ex nihilo, without presuppositions of any kind. God’s Gift of the Universe attempts to present the principal elements and stages of creation theology. The doctrine is to be found fundamentally, of course, in Scripture, both Old and New Testament, which describes the world in the light of God’s word. Yet since God actually gave existence to the world, down to the last detail, our reflection on God’s word not only explains the reality of creation, how it works, its nature, as science does. It also explains how creation came into being in the mind and heart of the Triune God, and, ultimately, why God created the world. In God’s Gift of the Universe, a considerable effort has been spent throughout the book on the Christological and Trinitarian aspects of creation, particularly in the theology of Church Fathers. Creation is presented besides in a deeply eschatological key, for God created the world for purpose of making his glory eternally manifest. The book also considers the way God ‘intervenes’ in the life of the created world, through conservation in being and providence. The meaning of time, matter and spirit are considered. The need for ecological awareness is central. One aspect of the mystery of creation that receives special attention is the presence of evil in the world. This is of particular importance once we accept that God made the world, whole and entire, thus assuming responsibility for the world as it is. The origin of evil through the sin of spiritual creatures provides the ultimate though not the only explanation of the mystery of evil. Particular consideration is given to the reality of ‘original sin’.

Download or read book The God Theory written by Bernard Haisch and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2011-05-14 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As science integrates the in-depth knowledge of the physical world accumulated over the past three centuries, it will be channeled into a new and exciting line of inquiry that acknowledges the expanded reality of consciousness as a creative force in the universe and the spiritual creative power embodied in our own minds. This book summarizes the thoughts of an inquisitive, but open-minded, scientist. What I present here is a theory that looks promising, not scientific proof. It should not be surprising, however, if some of what I propose coincides with theories propounded by others who claim a more intimate relationship with the Almighty. After all, if I am on the right track, and if they are, it would be worrisome if we were not, ultimately, in agreement. All I ask is that you seriously consider the logic of my theory, especially if it challenges you to question what you were taught - in Sunday school, in catechism or, dare I say, in physics class. I offer this book, not as a theological treatise, but as a short, readable exposition of a worldview that can bring sense and purpose into individual lives, and tolerance and peace to a planet whose future is in serious jeopardy - in large part because of the irrational dogmatism of both religion and science. If I am correct, we are literally all one being (God) in many individual forms. Why, then, would we continue to harm one another?
