Book excerpt: Since the time of Jesus, Europe, starting with Rome, has controlled Biblical Studies. For centuries, one system has controlled all of the data. As a result, a peculiar structure has grown up around Christianity. The story of Egypt's role in the development of Christianity has lay entombed in a sepulcher of darkness and silence. Now, the resurrection and ascension of the original archetype of Biblical History is here. This revolutionary work is an address to the scholar but written in the language for all. Unlike any other work before it, this volume does not claim that Egypt simply made contributions to the Bible rather; Egypt is the origin and original model of the Bible. Through the use of Archaeology, Egyptology, and Biblical Hermeneutics, Alfred Williams presents a strong case for Egypt as the dominant force in the formation of Biblical Theology. This work is the first of its kind. Based on the works of Cain Felder, Cheikh Anta Diop and Ivan Van Sertima, this book is an introduction into the 17 other works written by Alfred Williams. Take a journey through time, down through the hallways of History to a time when Egypt worshiped the one God and forged the pattern of Theology that became the prototype for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

  • Pages : 429 pages

Download or read book BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS written by Milton Spenser Terry and published by Christian Publishing House. This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS by Milton S. Terry has been the standard text for over 130 years for generations of students, pastors, and serious Bible readers. There have been hundreds of books written over that time, and they all have only one thing in common, they quote Milton S. Terry's BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS. Why read those who quote the standard when you can now read the new, revised, updated standard itself. This third edition has been substantially updated and expanded. Edward D. Andrews, the author of 160+ books and Chief Translator of the Updated American Standard Version, makes significant adjustments to history's best book on biblical hermeneutics even better. In addition, five new chapters have been included that address more recent controversial issues. BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS offers all the best and most up-to-date information needed to interpret Scripture the correct way. Yes, the approach herein has not changed, nor will it ever. It follows the longstanding historical-grammatical method of interpretation (objective), not the modern historical-critical method (subjective). If today's churchgoer can learn the correct principles and processes for biblical hermeneutics, more accurate and beneficial biblical interpretation can be accomplished. In this new third edition of BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS, Bible scholar Edward D. Andrews gives the reader a thorough study of hermeneutics as a discipline. BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS has never been broken. The modern scholarship did that. Now, we can access the standard that has long been quoted by thousands of scholars and tens of thousands of pastors.

Book Contemporary Biblical Hermeneutics

Download or read book Contemporary Biblical Hermeneutics written by Manfred Oeming and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Appearing in English for the first time, this classic introduction to the field of hermeneutics covers a wide range of approaches to biblical interpretation. Presenting a brief history of philosophical hermeneutics, Manfred Oeming uses a clear structure to emphasize why there are, and why there must be, different and differing approaches to the interpretation of a text, in this case particularly the biblical text. The often confusing multiplicity of approaches to biblical interpretation are introduced along accessible lines, concluding with an argument for an acceptance of a multiplicity of approaches to account for the many layers of the biblical text. Incorporating discussion of the German hermeneutical tradition, exemplified by the work of Heidegger, Bultmann, and Gadamer, this book helps to bridge Anglo-American and German scholarly traditions. It will be of great assistance to students, teachers and preachers.

In addition, four new chapters have been included that address more recent controversial issues: • The role of biblical theology in interpretation • How to deal with contemporary questions not directly addressed in the Bible • The New Testament’s use of the Old Testament • The role of history in interpretation The book retains the unique aspect of being written by two scholars who hold differing viewpoints on many issues, making for vibrant, thought-provoking dialogue. What they do agree on, however, is the authority of Scripture, the relevance of personal Bible study to life, and why these things matter.

Book Spirit Word Community

Download or read book Spirit Word Community written by Amos Yong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002. How does one go about "doing Christian theology"? Yong explores this question by proposing a pneumatological-trinitarian hermeneutic. Its thesis is that interpretation and theological method is an ongoing tri-logue of Spirit-Word-Community: of interpretive subjects as imaginative, obligated and relational agents; of the horizons of the interpreter, the biblical and ecclesial traditions, and the world; and of founding, historical, and ongoing communities of faith and inquiry. Ecumenical perspectives on the topics of pneumatology (the doctrine of the Spirit), metaphysics (foundational pneumatology), epistemology (the pneumatological imagination), and trinitarian theology converge in this book to move forward the present discussion of theological method.

Download or read book The Hermeneutical Spirit written by Amos Yong and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the contemporary biblical studies climate, proposals regarding the theological interpretation of Scripture are contested, particularly but not only because they privilege, encourage, and foster ecclesial or other forms of normative commitments as part and parcel of the hermeneutical horizon through which scriptural texts are read and understood. Within this context, confessional approaches have been emerging, including some from within the nascent pentecostal theological tradition. This volume builds on the author's previous work in theological method to suggest a pentecostal perspective on theological interpretation that is rooted in the conviction that all Christian reading of sacred Scripture is post-Pentecost, meaning after the Day of Pentecost outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh in anticipation of the coming reign of God. In that respect, such a pentecostal interpretative perspective is not parochially for those within the modern day movement bearing that name but is arguably apostolic in following after the scriptural imagination of the earliest disciples of Jesus the messiah and therefore has ecumenical and missional purchase across space and time. The Hermeneutical Spirit thus provides close readings of various texts across the scriptural canon as a model for Christian theological interpretation of Scripture suitable for the twenty-first-century global context.

Book Why Hermeneutics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anthony C. Thiselton
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2019-11-11

Download or read book Why Hermeneutics written by Anthony C. Thiselton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this little volume, Anthony Thiselton makes an impassioned appeal for closer attention to the philosophy of hermeneutics. Emilio Betti provocatively observes that hermeneutics ought to constitute an obligatory course for most degrees in the humanities. Hermeneutics, he insists, teaches patience, tolerance, respect for other views, understanding, and humility, while holding one's own views with firmness and generosity. Yet many teaching institutions do not yet recognize this. With this in mind, Thiselton first considers and responds to those who argue that hermeneutics is not necessary. Then he considers anew more sophisticated thinkers on the subject. Types of texts and hermeneutical models, he argues, are almost infinite, a fact many biblical scholars do not recognize. In the field of biblical hermeneutics, too many view the Bible as one thing, or as a monochrome landscape--it is not. The culmination of Thiselton's case consists in a sustained reflection on the impressive work of Paul Ricoeur, selecting thirteen points of genuine advance his work makes. With a glossary of fifty technical terms this is a volume that will prove helpful to student and scholar alike.
