Book excerpt: It is with great relief to all in the land of Sommerhjem that the challenge to choose a new king or queen has been completed, even if the result of the challenge was very unexpected. What will happen next is unknown. For me, now is the time for reflection. My past catching up to me placed my family in danger. Very few folks know of my wife Ani’s and my involvement with those who secretly provided information to Queen Octavia. Nor do many folks know just how deeply involved I was after the death of Queen Octavia in thwarting the Regent’s intention to prevent Princess Esmeralda from becoming the next ruler of Sommerhjem when she came of age. What is important now is what can I reveal about my past and what do I still need to hold secret? My name is Thorval Pedersen and this is my tale.

Book excerpt: It is with great relief to all in the land of Sommerhjem that the challenge to choose a new king or queen has been completed, even if the result of the challenge was very unexpected. What will happen next is unknown. For me, now is the time for reflection. My past catching up to me placed my family in danger. Very few folks know of my wife Ani's and my involvement with those who secretly provided information to Queen Octavia. Nor do many folks know just how deeply involved I was after the death of Queen Octavia in thwarting the regent's intention to prevent Princess Esmeralda from becoming the next ruler of Sommerhjem when she came of age. What is important now is what can I reveal about my past. What do I still need to hold secret? My name is Thorval Pedersen, and this is my tale.In a strange sort of way, the procession up the high hill behind Runa's farm was quite beautiful. The long line of torches flickering in and out of view would have been lovely if the torches were being carried by folks in a procession marking a joyous occasion or even marking the loss of a villager. Unfortunately, this procession marked the loss of faith in a man their lord and lady had trusted--and perhaps a little faith in their lord and lady. I found myself standing there, reflecting about how twice in one year I had witnessed a reeve abuse the folks he was put in charge of when the lord or lady of the estate was away. I wondered if this happened often when a lesser folk moved above others. How did some rise to the occasion with grace and others just become bullies? These were thoughts I would reflect on again and again over the years.

Book The London Stage 1930 1939

Download or read book The London Stage 1930 1939 written by J. P. Wearing and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 1133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theatre in London has celebrated a rich and influential history, and in 1976 the first volume of J. P. Wearing’s reference series provided researchers with an indispensable resource of these productions. In the decades since the original calendars were produced, several research aids have become available, notably various reference works and the digitization of important newspapers and relevant periodicals. The second edition of The London Stage 1930–1939: A Calendar of Productions, Performers, and Personnel provides a chronological calendar of London shows from January 1930 through December 1939. The volume chronicles more than 4,250 productions at 61 major central London theatres during this period. For each production the following information is provided: Title Author Theatre Performers Personnel Opening and Closing Dates Number of Performances Other details include genre of the production, number of acts, and a list of reviews. A comment section includes other interesting information, such as plot description, first-night reception by the audience, noteworthy performances, staging elements, and details of performances in New York either prior to or after the London production. Among the plays staged in London during this decade were The Barretts of Wimpole Street, French without Tears, George and Margaret, The Greeks Had a Word for It, Laburnum Grove, Lady Precious Stream, The Late Christopher Bean, Love on the Dole, Me and My Girl, Private Lives, and 1066 and All That, as well as numerous musical comedies (British and American), foreign works, operas, ballets, and revivals of English classics. A definitive resource, this edition revises, corrects, and expands the original calendar. In addition, approximately 20 percent of the material—in particular, information of adaptations and translations, plot sources, and comment information—is new. Arranged chronologically, the shows are fully indexed by title, genre, and theatre. A general index includes numerous subject entries on such topics as acting, audiences, censorship, costumes, managers, performers, prompters, staging, and ticket prices. The London Stage 1930-1939 will be of value to scholars, theatrical personnel, librarians, writers, journalists, and historians.

Book Television Westerns Episode Guide

Download or read book Television Westerns Episode Guide written by Harris M. Lentz and published by McFarland. This book was released on 1997 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Hopalong Cassidy and the Lone Ranger blazed their first trails on television in 1949, Westerns have been the genre of choice for 180 series. Some ( Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Maverick, for example) were classics; others, such as 26 Men and Shotgun Slade, were quickly forgotten. From Adventures of Briscoe County, through Zorro and Son, this comprehensive reference work covers all 180 Western series. Each entry opens with a listing of the broadcast history of the series, including original network, day and time. This is followed by a listing of the regular cast members and a brief premise of the series. The individual episodes are then covered, with the title, original air date, leading guest stars and a brief synopsis given. An exhaustive index completes the work.
