Enveloped by the world press in her small town, Meredith tries to grieve for her dead husband, while the cause of the plane crash is investigated. The press quickly expose the details of Blakes past, military service in Afghanistan, and the violent circumstances of his conception. Three days after the crash, the FAA reveal the cause of the devastating plane crash, that shocks people world-wide. With the love and support of her dear friend Grace, Meredith does her best to cope, despite the scrutiny from the press and the people in her town. To make matters worse, Merediths alcoholic brother Darien, who she hasnt seen in eighteen years comes to live with her, in hopes that she can save his life from his debilitating disease. She is skeptical about their reunion, because she doesnt want to relive the pain of her abusive childhood, and battle a disease that has dominated her brothers life for over twenty-five years. By chance, Meredith is reunited with her former lover Levi, a man who broke her heart, but it isnt long before she realizes that Levi is the true love of her life. Not wanting her husbands death to be in vain, Meredith takes a stand to help veterans with PTSD, and creates a foundation named after a veteran soldier who had been dishonored by the military. Thistle Dew, details the depth of a womans strength and dedication to overcome loss, and the scars of the past, while embracing the healing powers of horses, amongst the unspoiled wilderness of the mountainous west.

Book Promised Valley Conspiracy

Download or read book Promised Valley Conspiracy written by Ron Fritsch and published by Asymmetric Worlds. This book was released on 2012-12-04 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promised Valley Conspiracy is the third novel in Ron Fritsch’s four-book prehistoric Promised Valley series. Fritsch continues to ask if history and civilization, which prehistory gave birth to, could’ve begun differently. US Review of Books: “There is a traditional, epic tone to the book that is reminiscent of Homer’s Iliad or Odyssey. It is a story whose firm, relentless action is the narrative drive of this novel. It fascinates with pages filled with excitement and drama. Fritsch’s world is one filled with wondrous surprises, where there are no damaging thoughts among the people toward same-sex unions. It’s refreshing to see the disappearance of negative cultural trappings found in today’s world.” Kirkus: Promised Valley Conspiracy “explores the ongoing conflict between the valley people, who are prosperous farmers occupying all the richest Promised Valley lands, and the hill people, who inhabit the sparser uplands and live bitterly, believing that their gods promised the valley and its comforts to them. Since the valley people have a similar belief about themselves, a state of dangerous friction exists between the two groups. Savage warfare and desperate diplomacy marked the well-orchestrated events of the first two books, and tensions continue to boil to the surface in this volume. These books continue to be an intelligent and involving look at the personal sacrifices of making war and keeping peace.” Reader Views: “The author’s creativity in writing a series such as this is to be admired. I noticed as the two different peoples learned to see similarities amongst their differences, it is the same in our world today. Lack of understanding of the beliefs of others creates a disconnection and fear among people. Learning to understand and respect the differences makes for a better world whether it is prehistoric or current. There are many valuable lessons to be learned in this story.” Feathered Quill: “I highly recommend the captivating and interesting Promised Valley series. Quill says: A thought-provoking tale of intrigue and ‘what ifs’ had life played out in Promised Valley fashion.”

Book Dick Tracy and American Culture

Download or read book Dick Tracy and American Culture written by Garyn G. Roberts and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2003-08-28 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 1931, Dick Tracy made his debut on the pages of the Detroit Mirror. Since then America's most famous crime fighter has tangled with a variety of protagonists from locations as diverse as the inner city and outer space, all the time maintaining the moral high ground while reflecting American popular culture. Through extensive research and interviews with Chester Gould (the creator of "Dick Tracy"), his assistants, Dick Locher (the current artist), Max Allan Collins (who scripted the stories for more than 15 years) and many others associated with the strip, Dick Tracy as a cultural icon emerges. The strips use of both innovative and established police methods and the true-to-life portrayals of Tracy's family and fellow cops are detailed. The artists behind the strip are fully revealed and Dick Tracy paraphernalia and the 1990 movie Dick Tracy are discussed. Dick Tracy's appearances in other media--books, comics, radio, movie serials, "B" movies, television dramas, and animated cartoons--are fully covered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My poems have helped me see things for years now. Looking back on my poems, written and now collected, I discover I see things anew not only the remembered incidents (when that happens) but also the vision created in my mind by the poem itself. These poems, collected from parts of the life I ran past now, are glimpses that offer glimpses of what is seen and what that seeing seems to mean. I find that poems best serve me in becoming the creator of insights and perspective. The poems in this book have been giving that gift for me again.
