Book excerpt: "Dark Night" affects us all at some point in our lives. The Star of David comes in our help to illuminate and reveal through the works of St. John of the Cross the meaning and purpose of such darkness. Using simple geometry we will travel across different phases of the spiritual journey to realize that suffering and pain is part of a deeper, natural purification process to strip the soul and transform the individual into his authentic "self". In this book we use very simple concepts and traces for those who want to revisit their faith through the works of the saint, but also for anyone interested in his own personal development as a good individual. If we learn to accept our suffering and darkness, not only we move forward in our spiritual path but also will dare to suffer for others and transcend our spiritual comfort. The script and the scene. The spiritual path, like any classical play, has several parts with a beginning, a development and the end. After some introductory chapters on the work, influences and historical context of the author (Chapters 1 to 3), we will raise the curtain in Chapter 4 where the lower triangle (our soul) appears as the Mount of the Ascent. In Chapter 5 we raise the curtain a little more to introduce the new actor, the upper Trinitarian triangle. The Spirit, vertex-arrow directed towards the center of man's soul will be the protagonist in next stage (Chapter 6). When the vertexes of both triangles (divine and human realities) contact, the dark passive night of senses begins, followed by the frightful passive night of spirit with the intersection and advance of the space invaded in a growing rhomboid area. To better ground our model we contrast it with what Fray John says about the soul as a vessel of infinite capacity (Chapter 7). The advance of the Spirit in different facets (dark light, touch and breath) widens the intersected area (Chapter 8). When the divinity completely permeates the soul, appropriating its substance and transforming it into a fusion of wills, both triangles form a Star of David (Chapter 9). This sketch of love symbolizes the spiritual betrothal. The geometry of intertwining realities becomes a hexagonal secret garden, where the wine of the wedding and the honey of the marriage will be tasted. It is the object of Chapter 10 where we conclude our spiritual journey with John of the Cross. Our model thus reproduces the saint's invitation to a theological life of growth of the virtues. If man perseveres emptying himself he will gradually permeate his life and will end up illuminating what was night, allowing him to discover a treasure in the depths of his soul

Book Journey To Ixtlan

Download or read book Journey To Ixtlan written by Carlos Castaneda and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-04-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Journey to Ixtlan, Carlos Castaneda introduces readers to this new approach for the first time and explores, as he comes to experience it himself, his own final voyage into the teachings of don Juan, sharing with us what it is like to truly “stop the world” and perceive reality on his own terms. Originally drawn to Yaqui Indian spiritual leader don Juan Matus for his knowledge of mind-altering plants, bestselling author Carlos Castaneda immersed himself in the sorcerer’s magical world entirely. Ten years after his first encounter with the shaman, Castaneda examines his field notes and comes to understand what don Juan knew all along—that these plants are merely a means to understanding the alternative realities that one cannot fully embrace on one’s own.

Book Gospel of the Open Road

Download or read book Gospel of the Open Road written by Robert C. Gordon, PhD and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-01-28 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gospel of the Open Road reclaims Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, and Henry David Thoreau as Americas spiritual birthright. It rescues them from literary history, and reveals them in their true light: as democracys prophets of the soul. Emerson, Whitman, and Thoreau were religious seers who developed a new form of spirituality, and Gospel of the Open Road explains, in scholarly yet passionate fashion, the deep wisdom that is their enduring legacy. It presents them as a viable spiritual path for those who do not belong, and do not want to belong, to any organized religion. But this book does more. It draws fascinating parallels between the new spirituality taught by Emerson, Whitman, Thoreau and ancient spiritual wisdom as found in shamanism, Goddess worship, Tantra, Taoism, Confucianism, Vajrayana and Zen Buddhism, and Hinduism. This book is an evocative synthesis of humanitys most venerable spiritual wisdom and the most modern of philosophical, social, psychological, political, scientific, and Humanistic concepts. It traces the New Age spiritual revolution to its source in Emerson, Whitman, and Thoreau, and explains how to apply their spiritual teachings to our everyday life here on Earth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge was written by Carlos Castaneda and submitted as his Master's thesis in the school of Anthropology. It documents the events that took place during an apprenticeship with a self-proclaimed Yaqui Indian Sorcerer, don Juan Matus from Sonora, Mexico between 1960 and 1965. The book is divided into two sections. The first section, The Teachings, is a first person narrative that documents Castaneda's initial interactions with don Juan. He speaks of his encounters with Mescalito (a teaching spirit inhabiting all peyote plants), divination with lizards (by using a hallucinogenic powder rubbed on his temples to understand their language), and flying in animal form using the "Devil's Weed" (the datura plant). The second, A Structural Analysis, is an attempt, Castaneda says, at "disclos[ing] the internal cohesion and the cogency of don Juan's Teachings."[1] The story of a remarkable spiritual journey, the first awesone steps on the road to becoming "a man of knowledge," the road that continues with A Separate Reality and Journey To ixtlan. Includes The Teachings and A Structural Analysis.

Book Sacred Demise

Book excerpt: The collapse of industrial civilization is rapidly unfolding and offers us an opportunity far beyond mere survival, even as it renders absurd any attempts to “fix” or prevent the end of the world as we have known it. Sacred Demise is about the transformation of human consciousness and the emergence of a new paradigm as a result discovering our purpose in the collapse process, thereby coming home to our ultimate place in the universe. Our willingness to consciously embark on the journey with openness and uncertainty may be advantageous for engendering a quantum evolutionary leap for our species and for the earth community. "We face an awesome internal transition that will take us into very unfamiliar territory and will call upon our deeper resources. Carolyn Baker's Sacred Demise is a courageous, wise, and compassionate guide for us all through this inner journey." Michael Brownlee, Co-founder, Transition Boulder County "Carolyn speaks with a confidence that never flinches from entering into the hardest truths of our times, or from the most difficult truths about the culture we are immersed in, so that we might emerge from the chrysalis of global crisis with open hearts and a renewed way of living on Earth together."--Juan Santos, Fourth World Blogspot

He shares his dreamed revelations, answered prayers, blessings granted by strangers, and even his encounters with God Himself. By sharing his spiritual journey, he will help others to strengthen their faith in Christ and remind them of the imminent, chaotic end of this world as we know it. These stories are a constant reminder that Jesus will return very soon to take His followers to live with Him in the heavenly courts. In I Believe, the author explains that he wants to show the world that his God is not only all-powerful but that He is a living God who is willing to use His power on behalf of His children.
