Book Thirukkural Translation Explanation

Download or read book Thirukkural Translation Explanation written by Prof. R. Venkatachalam and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2015-08-12 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thiruvalluvar, the author of the Tamil treatise Thirukkural is considered to have lived sometime between 3rd century BC and 1st century AD. Thirukkural perhaps was a fitting reply to a host of conflicting and competing views that existed in Tamil speaking countries of the period on the right way of living, family, religion and governance, supported by various religions that reached the Tamil soil as well as those of indigenous ones and by philosophers who accompanied traders from far off countries. But unfortunately Thiruvalluvar himself did not give interpretation to his tersest couplets. The interpretations presented in 13nth century and earlier, in spite of the noble intention and extraordinary scholarship of the interpreters, I am afraid, understated its universality. Several centuries later, claims and counterclaims were made by the proponents of different religions including Christianity and the latest from atheists. I tried to remove the guise and achieved considerable success in this attempt. Fresh interpretations, which I believe truthfully reflect the thought of Thiruvalluvar, are provided in this book for nearly 360 couplets out of 1330 couplets. This conviction stems from my fresh look at Thirukkural that successfully shed away all the contradictions and unacceptable and unviable constructs it had to live with through the earlier interpretation(s). Thirukkural consists of 133 chapters with 10 couplets in each chapter. Each chapter is a life skill coaching material. They show how to live a soul-evolving life in the three arenas namely family, work and love. A soul which achieves full evolvement through numerous reincarnations reaches puthezhir ulagam (celestial abode). Thank you for buying this book. Contact me if you may at [email protected].

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real greatness of Tirukkural is its survival, even after the onslaughts of many heterogeneous creeds. In the last two thousand years, it never failed to attract any scholar or lover of wisdom. They have glorified Valluvar and his monumental magnum opus "The Kural" with scintillating tributes. It is true that the great poet of modern times Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathi aptly said that "Tamilnadu gave Valluvar to the world! And thereby gained the everlasting fame!" The purpose of this anthology is to bring out the Rev. Dr. G. U. Pope's Tirukkural translation in English along with the erudite Tamil Scholar Dr. Mu. Varadarajan's Tamil commentary for the benefit of scholars and students. We have compiled and published Rev. G. U. Pope's English translation of the Tirukkural is a fitting tribute to this great classic, a valuable contribution to English and a great service to Tamil. This is a labour of love which will earn for the author the admiration and gratitude of the Tamil-loving public. Dr. Mu. Varadarajan reveals a fine grasp of the genius of Tiruvalluvar and commands the most refined temperament to render into lucid commentary the terse and highly condensed poetical expressions of Tiruvalluvar. May this work bring a great flood of many-sided enlightenment and delight to all. As a great thinker, of Tiruvalluvar actually transgresses the frontiers of language and creed. His scripture of Universalism has induced to recognize him as one of the great philosophers, to be placed in the midst of Socrates, Kant and Confucius, the illustrious moral philosophers of the mankind. In the sphere of political science and public administration, Valluvar seems supreme in his treatment and humanistic approach than Aristotle, Kautilya, Kamantaka, Sukkra, Machiavelli and Harold Laski.

The rise of Western Buddhism, sacred dance and dance/movement therapy, along with the mindfulness meditation boom, has created opportunities for Buddhism to inform dance aesthetics and for Buddhist practice to be shaped by dance. This collection of new essays documents the innovative work being done at the intersection of Buddhism and dance. The contributors--scholars, choreographers and Buddhist masters--discuss movement, performance, ritual and theory, among other topics. The final section provides a variety of guided practices.

Book A Letter to a Hindu

Download or read book A Letter to a Hindu written by Leo Tolstoy and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2023-01-12 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many letters can be claimed to have been as influential as this? Leo Tolstoy's 'Letter to a Hindu' was originally sent to the Indian revolutionary and scholar Tarak Nath Das. Its circulation saw it spotted by a young Mahatma Gandhi, who was living in South Africa and printed it in his newspaper, Indian Opinion. In the letter, Tolstoy argues that only love would enable the Indian people to gain independence from Britain. It helped Gandhi form his revolutionary ideas around non-violence, which eventually saw India freed from colonial rule. 'A Letter to a Hindu' actually includes a foreword from Gandhi, who became firm friends with the Russian author. Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) was a Russian author, a master of realistic fiction and one of the world’s greatest novelists. Tolstoy’s major works include 'War and Peace' (1865–69) and 'Anna Karenina' (1875–77), two of the greatest novels of all time and pinnacles of realist fiction. Beyond novels, he wrote many short stories and later in life also essays and plays. In the years following the publication of 'War and Peace' Tolstoy - who was born to a Russian aristocratic family - had a spiritual awakening that made him a committed Christian anarchist and pacifist. His philosophy inspired Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
