Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thirtieth Annual Report of the Fruit-Growers' Association of Ontario, 1898 Have no clause at all, or else have a clause expressly stating, and have a man sign it when he makes his entry. A. Mcneill, (walkerville) Would that it were possible to get back to the good old classic times when they used to compete for the glory of the thing. I would like to see the rules framed so as to throw more on the honor of the person exhibiting, and that lees stress should be placed on the money question. It is not desirable even for the purpose of securing a good exhibit of fruit that this class of men should be encouraged. We as Canadians have a reputation which I think without undue modesty we can claim, of being honest, and as far as the regulations can be framed to put down that kind of thing and secure honesty in that respect the better. I think the Toronto people have done well in putting a premium upon the exhibits of fruit from Horticultural Societies, and more stress should be laid upon that. Horticultural Societies should look to the educational value of these collections, and look upon it as part of their legitimate work to make the exhibits and to make them educative. Less stress should be laid upon the money side and more upon the credit of having a good exhibit for the individuals and the societies and the country in they which live. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thirty-Eighth Annual Report of the Fruit Growers' Association of Ontario, 1906 Your Executive have met formally during the past 12 months on four occasions. Early in the new year, it was seen that the clauses relating to affiliated associations, as adopted at the last annual meeting, would not be workable under the conditions existing at the latter time. In November, when the changes were made, the numerous horticultural societies in the Province were nominally eligible for affiliation, and as these societies were receiving government assistance, it was thought that the affiliation fee should be fixed as high as 750. Per member. The day following the close of the fruit convention, representatives of the horticultural societies met and formally organized the Association of Horticultural Societies of Ou tario. This action relieved the Fruit Growers' Association of any further necessity of looking after the interests of these societies, and at the same time changed entirely the outlook for membership during the coming year. \one of the local Fruit Growers' Associations were receiving Government assistance and were unable to pay the high fee of 75 cents per member. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fifty-Third Annual Report of the Fruit Growers' Association of Ontario, 1921 Having had the honour Of being elected by my Colleagues as President for a second term, I am therefore permitted to welcome you to this, the Sixty second Annual Convention of the Ontario Fruit Growers' Association. When we reflect on the honest endeavour of our Organization to advance the interests of fruit growing for a period of over sixty years, with a record of as many successful Conventions, we must admit that the Society has proven its worth to a very great extent. TO the founders Of this Society - many of whom have passed to the Great Beyond - we owe a deep debt Of gratitude, for having laid the foundation of our Association strong and deep, thus assuring its permanency for all these years, and the consequent benefits resulting, therefrom. Another year, with its responsibilities and opportunities, is past and gone. Coming as it did in the very centre of the re-adjustment period, we are Of the opinion, that we should be very well satisfied With the results, considering the fact that 1921 will go down as an Off year in fruit, especially in tree fruits. I am firmly Of the opinion that our industry is holding, its own during this unsettled time, and its condition compares favorably with any of the great Canadian industries. It behooves us however, to stand fast and with optimism and industry, Carry On, thus assuring the future greatness Of our business. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Twenty-Sixth Annual Report of the Fruit Growers' Association of Ontario, 1894 In rising to deliver, what falls to my lot tonight, the thirty-fourth annual address of the President to the Ontario Fruit Growers' Association, I feel deeply impressed with the truth of Solomon's affirmation that there is nothing new under the sun. After thirty-three of my predecessors have performed annually this task you may well wonder what there is left for me to say that has not already been said. My immediate predecessor had the advantage of most of us and especially of me in. Coming, as he did, both before and after the great Columbian Exposition. In his address two years ago he had the great exhibition in anticipation. One year ago he had it all before him in its magnificent fulfilment. Two years ago this Association had to consider what its duty was in connection with the fruit interests of this province at the great World's Exposition, and how best it could perform that duty. One year ago it need do little but talk of its achievements and the honors that it won there. And it will look back with pride to those achieve ments for many years to come.
