Book Thinning and Rupture of a Thin Liquid Film on a Heated Surface Progress Report September 15 1992 September 14 1993

Download or read book Thinning and Rupture of a Thin Liquid Film on a Heated Surface Progress Report September 15 1992 September 14 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this work continues to be the study of the dynamics, stability and rupture of thin liquid films, especially with heat and/or mass transfer. These films appear in many engineering processes, such as film coating, gas absorption, condensation, and especially cooling of hot surfaces. Surface waves may be detrimental, leading to film breakdown, with consequent equipment overheating, or beneficial, as when mass transfer coefficients are increased.

Book Thinning and Rupture of a Thin Liquid Film on a Heated Surface Progress Report October 1 1989 September 30 1990

Download or read book Thinning and Rupture of a Thin Liquid Film on a Heated Surface Progress Report October 1 1989 September 30 1990 written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this work continues to be the study of dynamics, stability, and rupture (including contact line motions) of thin liquid films, especially with heat and/or mass transfer. Following the publication of a comprehensive paper on thin-film stability and rupture, taking into account evaporation (condensation), thermocapillarity, surface tension, vapor recoil, van der Waals forces, and mass loss (gain), two follow-up papers have appeared. The first examines the conditions for a non-uniformly-heated liquid film to rupture, owing to thermocapillarity, while the second reports experimental results in excellent agreement with the theory on non-isothermal free-surface problems. Another paper extends some previous results to the case where the viscosity of the liquid is a function of temperature. By proper rescaling, it is shown that the evolution equation can be transformed into the constant-viscosity case, so that previous results can be applied directly. Another paper considers the nonlinear growth, steepening, and wavebreaking of an isothermal thin liquid film draining down an inclined plate. The competition between mean flow and evaporation gives important morphological changes that control the heat-transfer process in the wavy regime. A number of other results were obtained. 9 refs.

Book Wave Dynamics on Falling Films and Its Effects on Heat mass Transfer Progress Report June 15 1992 June 14 1993

Download or read book Wave Dynamics on Falling Films and Its Effects on Heat mass Transfer Progress Report June 15 1992 June 14 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave evolution on a falling film is important in many industrial processes such as fiber coating, paper coating, pollutant scrubbing, etc. If the film flows down a cylindrical fiber, the wave transitions are different from those on a vertical plane. Saturated waves are not observed unless film thickness is below a critical value; if above, the waves grow rapidly to form drops with characteristic dimension close to capillary length scale. Some important open problems in these two wave formation processes were studied.

Book Conditions for the Rupture of a Lubricating Film

Download or read book Conditions for the Rupture of a Lubricating Film written by J. C. Coyne and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis is made to determine the shape of the film-vapor interface when a thin liquid film separates from a stationary surface and is swept away on an opposing moving surface. Situations in which variations of this phenomenon occur include cavitation in bearings, the spreading of thin films, and the movement of bubbles in narrow spaces. The results of the analysis show that for a fixed attachment height the flow carried in the separating film decreases with decreasing N = (3mu(U)/T) to the 1/3rd power. Stagnation points occur on the interface (with upstream recirculation) at a film height of 3F/U where F is the flow per unit film width and U is the plate velocity. As N decreases, the flow decreases; and the stagnation point moves down the interface toward the moving plate. A second stagnation point always occurs at the point of film attachment. A second important result is that film separation occurs in a distance of about one plate clearance. Because this transition distance is very small, the analysis is applicable to situations in which the plate velocity is not normal to the film edge, e.g. striated cavitation in bearings. The upstream transition distance is shown to be a few plate clearances.

Book Transfer of Heat Through a Thin Liquid Film

Download or read book Transfer of Heat Through a Thin Liquid Film written by Tahir Naseem and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work discusses heat transfer in thin liquid films past a stretching surface in the presence of Joule heating, radiation, viscous dissipation, and magnetic effects. Using a suitable similarity transformation, the nonlinear coupled partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are then solved by using the shooting method. The physical quantities, such as the unsteadiness parameter, the Prandtl number, the magnetic field parameter, the radiation parameter, and the viscous dissipation parameter on temperature distributions, are depicted graphically. It is observed that the effects of Prandtl and Eckert numbers are same over the temperature distribution. Furthermore, it is also evident that the increasing values of the unsteadiness parameter enhance the thermal conductivity of the fluid.

Book The Senate Intelligence Committee Report on Torture Academic Edition

Download or read book The Senate Intelligence Committee Report on Torture Academic Edition written by Senate Select Committee On Intelligence and published by Melville House. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study edition of book the Los Angeles Times called, "The most extensive review of U.S. intelligence-gathering tactics in generations." This is the complete Executive Summary of the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation into the CIA's interrogation and detention programs -- a.k.a., The Torture Report. Based on over six million pages of secret CIA documents, the report details a covert program of secret prisons, prisoner deaths, interrogation practices, and cooperation with other foreign and domestic agencies, as well as the CIA's efforts to hide the details of the program from the White House, the Department of Justice, the Congress, and the American people. Over five years in the making, it is presented here exactly as redacted and released by the United States government on December 9, 2014, with an introduction by Daniel J. Jones, who led the Senate investigation. This special edition includes: • Large, easy-to-read format. • Almost 3,000 notes formatted as footnotes, exactly as they appeared in the original report. This allows readers to see obscured or clarifying details as they read the main text. • An introduction by Senate staffer Daniel J. Jones who led the investigation and wrote the report for the Senate Intelligence Committee, and a forward by the head of that committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein.
