Book Things You Probably Didn t Learn in Church

Download or read book Things You Probably Didn t Learn in Church written by Jerry Blount and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a Bible researcher and teacher of over forty years, I have noticed that there are certain topics in the Bible that most Christians know little, if anything, about. For instance, do you think heaven will be a boring place? Many Christians do, so why would they be looking forward to going there? Learn the real facts. Do you know the next prophecy to be fulfilled will be the Rapture, when Christ will return to take the believers home to heaven. Many Biblical scholars believe this will happen soon. You need to be ready. Are you aware that there is an unbelievable amount of evidence that proves that Jesus lived, was crucified, and rose again. The Bible contains information that could not have been written without divine inspiration, including advanced knowledge about nature, prophecy, medicine, sanitation and science; knowledge that was thousands of years ahead of its time. Fulfilled prophecy and archaeology discoveries are proving the scriptures to be true. The effects of Satan and his demons are all around usbroken marriages, depression, private doubts about God, divided churches. You need to be aware of his tactics. Are angels involved in our everyday lives? Do you have your own guardian angel? These questions and many, many more are answered in this book. Many years ago I asked God to give me a hunger for His word. He honored that request far more than I anticipated. I truly enjoy studying, researching, and sharing the scriptures. God has blessed my wife and myself in so many ways. We live in a beautiful part of the country, Michigans Upper Peninsula. God has also blessed us with a great son and daughter, their spouses and the four greatest granddaughters ever. I am a blessed man!

Book So You Don t Want to Go to Church Anymore

Download or read book So You Don t Want to Go to Church Anymore written by Wayne Jacobsen and published by Windblown Media. This book was released on 2008-09-02 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jake Colsen, an overworked and disillusioned pastor, happens into a stranger who bears an uncanny resemblance (in manner) to the apostle John. A number of encounters with John as well as a family crisis lead Jake to a new understanding of what his life should be like: one filled with faith bolstered by a steady, close relationship with the God of the universe. Facing his own disappointment with Christianity, Jake must forsake the habits that have made his faith rote and rediscover the love that captured his heart when he first believed. Compelling and intensely personal, So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anything relates a man's rebirth from performance-based Christianity to a loving friendship with Christ that affects all he does, thinks, and says. As John tells Jake, "There is nothing the Father desires for you more than that you fall squarely in the lap of his love and never move from that place for the rest of your life."

Book What They Didn t Teach You in Seminary

Download or read book What They Didn t Teach You in Seminary written by James Emery White and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In churches today, there are ever fewer older pastors speaking into the lives of younger leaders, and fewer younger leaders feeling there is much to be learned from the experience of their elders. Street-smart wisdom is gone from training as there are many men and women preparing pastors who have never themselves pastored a church. Intriguingly, even older, more seasoned pastors yearn for insight into their task, as they remain "undiscipled" in the school of leadership. In What They Didn't Teach You in Seminary, veteran pastor James Emery White provides the kind of mentoring young pastors desperately need but cannot get from academia or leadership books. These "from the trenches" insights will help them transform their relationships with staff and parishoners, develop healthy boundaries, deliver hard truths, avoid spiritual pitfalls, use their time effectively, and much more.

Book excerpt: Help your church thrive in a post-everything world. The world is a very different place from what it was just a few years ago. Today’s post-everything world is arguably more divisive, political, indifferent, and impatient than ever. While many believe that the best course of action is to find a way back to how things used to be, is that actually the best way forward? Given the many ways that our world has changed, it’s time for Christian leadership strategies to change, and for churches to approach making disciples, evangelism, and preaching differently than yesterday. The Discipleship Opportunity is a powerful tool for church leaders seeking to navigate the challenges of our rapidly evolving, post-pandemic, post-Christian, and post-everything world. In this helpful resource, Daniel Im equips readers with practical ways to: reach those who are spiritually asleep in your church and community, disciple your church to know Jesus deeply, and preach differently in today’s post-everything world. Discern your church’s path forward by learning how to diagnose which shifts to make. Learn disciple-making principles that are as straightforward as they are timely. Whether you’re a seasoned leader or just starting out, don’t miss this opportunity to emerge as a stronger, healthier, and more evangelistic church.

Book excerpt: churchfails is a collection of 100 articles describing people who claim to be Christians doing foolish things. Each article will include a picture of the subject. From the Introduction: "Groucho Marx once said, “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.” If Christianity is a club, it has featured innumerable inglorious members. As abashed affiliates of said club, what can we do? We can try to deny our past and present peccadilloes, but covering up a crime is like poking a polecat—it’s worse in the end. So, we can rant and rave, or we can laugh and learn. This book settles on the second strategy."
