Book Handbook of Turbulence

Download or read book Handbook of Turbulence written by Walter Frost and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulence takes place in practically all flow situations that occur naturally or in modern technological systems. Therefore, considerable effort is being expended in an attempt to understand this very complex physical phenome non and to develop both empirical and mathematical models for its description. Such numerical and analytical computational schemes would allow the reliable prediction and design of turbulent flow processes to be carried out. The purpose of this book is to bring together, in a usable form, some of the fundamental concepts of turbulence along with turbulence models and experimental techniques. It is hoped that these have "general applicability" in current engineering design. The phrase "general applicabil ity" is highlighted because the theory of turbulence is still so much in a formative stage that completely general analyses are not available now, nor will they be available in the immediate future. The concepts and models described herein represent the state-of-the art methods that are now being used to give answers to turbulent flow problems. As in all turbulent flow analysis, the methods are a blend of analytical and empirical input, and the reader should be cognizant of the simplification and restrictions imposed upon the methods when applyingthem to physical situations different from those for which they have been developed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Aerodynamics provides an up to date study of this key area of aeronautical engineering. The field has undergone significant evolution with the development of 3D techniques, data processing methods, and the conjugation of simultaneous measurements of multiple quantities. Written for undergraduate and graduate students in Aerospace Engineering, the text features chapters by leading experts, with a consistent structure, level, and pedagogical approach. Fundamentals of measurements and recent research developments are introduced, supported by numerous examples, illustrations, and problems. The text will also be of interest to those studying mechanical systems, such as wind turbines.

Book Measurement in Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Measurement in Fluid Mechanics written by Stavros Tavoularis and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-04-11 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thoroughly revised and expanded, the new edition of this established textbook equips readers with a robust and practical understanding of experimental fluid mechanics. Enhanced features include improved support for students with emphasis on pedagogical instruction and self-learning, end-of-chapter summaries, 127 examples, 165 problems and refined illustrations, plus new coverage of digital photography, frequency analysis of signals and force measurement. It describes comprehensively classical and modern methods for flow visualisation and measuring flow rate, pressure, velocity, temperature, concentration, forces and wall shear stress, alongside supporting material on system response, measurement uncertainty, signal analysis, data analysis, optics, laboratory apparatus and laboratory practice. Instructor resources include lecture slides, additional problems, laboratory support materials and online solutions. Ideal for senior undergraduate and graduate students studying experimental fluid mechanics, this textbook is also suitable for an introductory measurements laboratory, and is a valuable resource for practising engineers and scientists in experimental fluid mechanics.

Book Advances in Fluid Mechanics Measurements

Download or read book Advances in Fluid Mechanics Measurements written by MOHAMED GAD-EL-HAK and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One cannot overemphasize the importance of studying fluids in motion or at rest for a variety of scientific and engineering endeavors. Fluid mechanics as an art reaches back into antiquity, but its rational formulation is a relatively recent undertaking. Much of the physics of a particular flow situation can be understood by conducting appropriate experiments. Flow visualization techniques offer a useful tool to establish an overall picture of a flow field and to delineate broadly its salient features before embarking on more detailed quantitative measurements. Among the single-point measurements that are particularly difficult are those in separated flows, non-Newtonian fluids, rotating flows, and nuclear aerosols. Pressure, shear stress, vorticity, and heat transfer coefficient are also difficult quantities to measure, particularly for time-dependent flows. These and other special situations are among the topics covered in this volume. Each article emphasizes the development of a particular measuring technique. The topics covered were chosen because of their importance to the field, recent appeal, and potential for future development. The articles are comprehensive and coverage is pedagogical with a bias towards recent developments.

Book Boundary Layer Effects

Download or read book Boundary Layer Effects written by Anthony W. Fiore and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1975 the U.S. Air Force and the Federal Republic of Germany signed a Data Exchange Agreement numbered AF-75-G-7440 entitled 'Viscous and Interacting Flow Fields.' The purpose was to exchange data in the area of boundary layer research. It includes both experimental and theoretical boundary layer research at speeds from subsonic to hypersonic Mach numbers in the presence of laminar, transitional, and turbulent boundary layers. The main effort in recent years has been on turbulent boundary layers, both attached and separated in the presence of such parameters as pressure gradients, wall temperature, surface roughness, etc. In the United States the research was conducted in various Department of Defense, NASA, aircraft corporations, and various university laboratories. In the Federal Republic of Germany it was carried out within the various DFVLR, industrial, and university research centers.
