Book Thermoelastic plastic Flow and Ductile Fracture in Solids

Download or read book Thermoelastic plastic Flow and Ductile Fracture in Solids written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main aim of these lectures is to develop the theory of elastic-plastic flow in solids, with application to a particular class of processes, namely those in which the dissipation of plastic work cannot be neglected. Examples of such processes are highspeed impact phenomena and cratering, shock compression, often shock release as well, and explosive deformation and welding. An important part of the development is to include the anisotropic elastic properties of a solid, and for this reason the theory applies to solids in general. On the other hand, it is possible that some of the results will have limited validity for nonmetals. The secondary aim of the lectures is to develop a general framework for ductile fracture, and describe the current practice in the field. Our theory is incremental in nature and suitable for integrating along a process in small timesteps as is done in ''hydrodynamic'' computer programs. A notational conflict arose, because in continuum mechanics the extensive quantities are taken per unit mass, while in thermodynamics they are usually per unit volume. The continuum mechanics normalization, i.e., per unit mass, is used throughout, with the result that uncommon factors of density show up in the thermodynamic equations.

Book Elastic Plastic Deformation in Cracked Solids and Ductile Fracture Criterion

Download or read book Elastic Plastic Deformation in Cracked Solids and Ductile Fracture Criterion written by H. W. Liu and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objectives of the program are to study crack tip stresses and crack tip deformation, and to use the findings of these studies to investigate the fractures of ductile and tough materials. Crack tip displacement and strain fields were measured with the moire method, and crack tip stress, displacement, and strain fields were calculated with the finite elements method. The measured displacement and strain fields agree well with the finite element calculations. The results were used to develop the direct correspondence method of evaluating fracture toughness of ductile tough materials and were also to analyze deformation mode of fatigue crack growth. Book Plastic Flow and Fracture in Solids

Download or read book Plastic Flow and Fracture in Solids written by Tracy Yerkes Thomas and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1961 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation; methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; and methods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particular branches, such as optimal filtering and information compression. - Best operator approximation, - Non-Lagrange interpolation, - Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform - Generalised low-rank matrix approximation - Optimal data compression - Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Anisotropy and Localization of Plastic Deformation

Download or read book Anisotropy and Localization of Plastic Deformation written by J.P. Boehler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present developments in materials science, mechanics and engineering, as well as the demands of modern technology, result in a new and growing interest in plasticity and in bordering domains of the mechanical behavior of materials. This growing interest is attested to by the success of both The International Journal of Plasticity, which after its inception rapidly became the leading journal for plasticity research, and the series ofInternational Symposia on Plasticity and Its Current Applications, which is now the premier international forum for plasticity research dissemination. The First International Symposium on Plasticity and Its Current Applications was conceived and organized by Professor Akhtar S. Khan, and was held at the University of Oklahoma (Norman, Oklahoma, USA) from July 30 to August 3, 1984. It was attended by over one hundred scientists from fifteen countries. "Plasticity '89: the Second International Symposium on Plasticity and Its Current Applications" was held at Mie University (Tsu, Japan) from July 31 to August 4, 1989; this symposium was co-chaired by Professors Khan and Tokuda. The main emphasis of this meeting was on dynamic plasticity and micromechanics, although it included other aspects of plasticity as well. It was attended by over two hundred researchers from twenty-three nations.

Book Multi field modeling and simulation of fiber reinforced polymers

Download or read book Multi field modeling and simulation of fiber reinforced polymers written by Schulte, Jonathan and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2023-03-27 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work proposes a new numerical approach for analyzing the behavior of fiber-reinforced materials, which have gained popularity in various applications. The approach combines theories and methods to model the fracture behavior of the polymeric matrix and the embedded fibers separately, and includes a modified plasticity model that considers the temperature-dependent growth of voids. Tests are conducted to explore different types and sequences of failure in long fiber-reinforced polymers.

Book Matter and Methods at Low Temperatures

Download or read book Matter and Methods at Low Temperatures written by Frank Pobell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide information about performing experi ments at low temperatures, as well as basic facts concerning the low tem perature properties of liquid and solid matter. To orient the reader, I begin with chapters on these low temperature properties. The major part of the book is then devoted to refrigeration techniques and to the physics on which they are based. Of equal importance, of course, are the definition and measurement of temperature; hence low temperature thermometry is extensively discussed in subsequent chapters. Finally, I describe a variety of design and construction techniques which have turned out to be useful over the years. The content of the book is based on the three-hour-per-week lecture course which I have given several times at the University of Bayreuth between 1983 and 1991. It should be particularly suited for advanced stu dents whose intended masters (diploma) or Ph.D. subject is experimental condensed matter physics at low temperatures. However, I believe that the book will also be of value to experienced scientists, since it describes sev eral very recent advances in experimental low temperature physics and technology, for example, new developments in nuclear refrigeration and thermometry.
