Book Rare Earth Metal Recovery for Green Technologies

Download or read book Rare Earth Metal Recovery for Green Technologies written by Rajesh Kumar Jyothi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the development, use, extraction, and recovery of rare earth metals. Rare earth elements (REEs) occupy a key role in daily life in industrial applications. They are one of the critical elements for energy and sustainable growth. REEs are utilized in many modern electrical and electronic devices such as smart phones, computers, LED lights etc. Recovery of the REEs from secondary resources represents a way to meet the growing demand for electronic devices. Because of their rarity, utility, and importance, the recovery, utilization and recycling of rare earth metals is of utmost importance. This book presents both current methods of processing rare earths from primary and secondary sources and new, green routes for their isolation and purification. The book also addresses their utilization, re-use, reduction, and recycling policies that exist globally. Applications in metallurgy, magnets, ceramics, electronics, and chemical, optical, and nuclear technologies are discussed.

Book Discussion of Theoretical Studies

Download or read book Discussion of Theoretical Studies written by Harold L. Schick and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermodynamics of Certain Refractory Compounds, Volume I: Discussion of Theoretical Studies provides information pertinent to thermodynamics as a significant theoretical tool for predicting the chemical and physical behavior of materials under diverse environmental conditions. This book presents a summary of the methods used to analyze thermodynamic data. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the thermodynamic properties that have been obtained for a selected group of refractory compounds in the range from 0° to 6000°K. This text then examines the class of compounds, including the borides, oxides, carbides, and nitrides of some elements in groups IIA, IIIB, IVB, VB, VIB, VIIB, and VIII as well as some elements from the rare-earth and actinide series. Other chapters consider the need for standardization in methods of obtaining and presenting thermodynamic data. The final chapter deals with the recommendations for the advancement of work. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and engineers.

It also acts as a guide to both the basic background of the subject area and the cutting edge of the topic, combining comprehensive discussions of the underlying physical principles of the CALPHAD method with detailed descriptions of their application to real complex multi-component materials. Approaches which combine both thermodynamic and kinetic models to interpret non-equilibrium phase transformations are also reviewed.

Book Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths

Download or read book Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths written by K.A. Gschneidner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-12-15 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Handbook is the first of a two-volume set of reviews devoted to the rare-earth-based high-temperature oxide superconductors (commonly known as hiTC superconductors). The history of hiTC superconductors is a few months short of being 14 years old when Bednorz and Müller published their results which showed that (La,BA)2CuO4 had a superconducting transition of ~30 K, which was about 7K higher than any other known superconducting material. Within a year the upper temperature limit was raised to nearly 100K with the discovery of an ~90K superconducting transition in YBa2Cu3O7-&dgr;. The announcement of a superconductor with a transition temperature higher than the boiling point of liquid nitrogen set-off a frenzy of research on trying to find other oxide hiTC superconductors. Within a few months the maximum superconducting transition reached 110 K (Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3010, and then 122K (TlBa2Ca3Cu4O11. It took several years to push TC up another 11 K to 133 K with the discovery of superconductivity in HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8, which is still the record holder today.
