Book Thermal Stress Determination Techniques for Supersonic Transport Aircraft Structures

Download or read book Thermal Stress Determination Techniques for Supersonic Transport Aircraft Structures written by R. H. Gallagher and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes computer programs developed for the analysis of heated beams, plates, and stiffened cylindrical shells. The matrix displacement approach to structural analysis, which forms the theoretical basis of these programs, is developed in detail. Derivation of new relationships employed in these programs is also detailed. The capabilities and limitations of the respective programs are outlined and illustrative applications are presented. Book Thermal Stress Determination Techniques for Supersonic Transport Aircraft Structures Part Ii Design Data for Sandwich Plates and Cylinders Under Applied Loads and Thermal Gradients

Download or read book Thermal Stress Determination Techniques for Supersonic Transport Aircraft Structures Part Ii Design Data for Sandwich Plates and Cylinders Under Applied Loads and Thermal Gradients written by R. A. Gellatly and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural design data are presented for various applied load and thermal gradient conditions for flat rectangular sandwich panels and sandwich cylinders. The flat panel solutions pertain to instability under nonuniform stress, and also to the stresses and displacements resulting from normal pressures and temperature gradients across the panel thickness in the presence of uniform midplane compression. Sandwich cylinder design data are given for buckling under nonuniform circumferential and axial stress, respectively, and for stresses due to radial or axial temperature gradients. The range of stiffness parameters extend, at one limit, to the isotropic forms of construction. (Author).

Book NASA Research on Materials Applicable to Supersonic Transports

Download or read book NASA Research on Materials Applicable to Supersonic Transports written by Herbert F. Hardrath and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National Aeronautics and Space Administration has conducted tests to determine the mechanical properties of materials suitable for use in a supersonics transport over the temperature range of interest and after prolonged exposure to temperature. On the basis of studies on fatigue behavior, rate of fatigue crack propagation, residual static strength, and resistance to deterioration of properties due to prolonged exposure to temperature, no serious materials problems are anticipated. However, stress corrosion is found to be a potentially serious problem in titanium alloys in a hot salt environment and in stainless steels in an ambient environment. The-Ti-8A1-lMo-lV alloy is found to be generally superior to other contending materials in all respects studied except for salt stress corrosion in which respect it was poorer than all others. Further research is recommended on stress corrosion; on the combined effects of fatigue, thermal exposure, and creep; and on the development of structural configurations and fabrication procedures suitable for the supersonic transport.

Book MAGIC

Download or read book MAGIC written by Robert H. Mallett and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An automated general purpose system for analysis is presented. This system, identified by the aconym 'MAGIC' for 'Matrix Analysis via Generative and Interpretive Computations, ' provides a flexible framework for implementation of the finite element analysis technology. Powerful capabilities for displacement, stress and stability analyses are included in the subject MAGIC System for structural analysis. The matrix displacement method of analysis based upon finite element idealization is employed throughout. Six versatile finite elements are incorporated in the finite element library. These are: frame, shear panel, triangular cross-section ring, toroidal thin shell ring, quadrilateral thin shell and triangular thin shell elements. These finite element representations include matrices for stiffness, incremental stiffness, perstrain load, thermal load, distributed mechanical load and stress.

Book Combustion in Advanced Gas Turbine Systems

Download or read book Combustion in Advanced Gas Turbine Systems written by I. E. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-17 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cranfield International Symposium Series, Volume 10: Combustion in Advanced Gas Turbine Systems covers the proceedings of an International Propulsion Symposium, held at the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield in April 1967. The book focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and transformations involved in chemical combustion. The selection first takes a look at the design considerations in advanced gas turbine combustion chambers, combustion in industrial gas turbines, and combustion development on the Rolls-Royce Spey engine. Discussions focus on mechanical condition, carbon-formation and exhaust smoke, system requirements, fuel oil ash deposition and corrosion, combustion-system design, performance requirements, types of primary zone, fuel injection, and combustion chamber types. The text then examines subsonic flow flameholder studies using a low pressure simulation technique; stabilization of hydrogen diffusion flames by flame-holders in supersonic flow at low stagnation temperatures; and augmentation systems for turbofan engines. The book takes a look at a consideration of the possible use of refractory ceramic materials for advanced combustion chamber design; cooling of flame tubes by steam injection; and combustion problems in the massive steam injection gas turbine. The selection is a valuable source of information for researchers interested in the process of combustion in advanced gas turbine systems.
