Book Thermal Maturity of Carboniferous and Permian Rocks of the Sverdrup Basin Canadian Arctic Archipelago

Download or read book Thermal Maturity of Carboniferous and Permian Rocks of the Sverdrup Basin Canadian Arctic Archipelago written by J. Utting and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thermal maturity of outcrop and subsurface core samples from Carboniferous and Permian rocks of Sverdrup Basin was assessed by using the Thermal Alteration Index (pollen and spore colour), the conodont Colour Alteration Index, and reflective of vitrinite and bitumen. These data indicate significant thermal maturity trends within the basin, which have considerable relevance to the hydrocarbon potential. --

Book Palynostratigraphy of Permian and Lower Triassic Rocks Sverdrup Basin Canadian Arctic Archipelago

Download or read book Palynostratigraphy of Permian and Lower Triassic Rocks Sverdrup Basin Canadian Arctic Archipelago written by J. Utting and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Study to establish a palynological zonation that could be used to correlate Permian and Lower Triassic strata within the Sverdrup Basin. Nine outcrop sections were sampled, including all the type sections of the formations studied. Material was collected from both shallow and deep basinal facies to make palynological correlations across lithofacies boundaries. The ages of the three palynological zones established were based mainly on ages determined from marine macro and microfaunal groups, especially ammonoids, brachiopods, and conodonts. Palynostratigraphic comparisons were made with other parts of the world, including the Kazanian stratotype of Russia.

Book Current Research Part G

Download or read book Current Research Part G written by Commission géologique du Canada and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Frontier Geoscience Program was initiated in 1984 to respond to the discovery of oil and gas in the north and the east coast offshore, as well as the extension of Canadian boundaries offshore to 200 miles. The program's objective is to ascertain the geological history and development of all sedimentary basins offshore and in the north where oil and gas resources might occur. This publication presents a number of reports representing such activities in the Arctic, including an overview of the Frontier Geoscience Program itself. Abstracts are included for each report.

Book Arctic Geology and Petroleum Potential

Download or read book Arctic Geology and Petroleum Potential written by T.O. Vorren and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the search for hydrocarbon resources in the Arctic started in the 1930's the exploration activity has expanded into many of the Arctic regions, and several of the Arctic sedimentary basins have proven to be important sources of hydrocarbon. Nevertheless, the Arctic continental margins and adjacent onshore areas are still largely unexplored in the context of petroleum, and are therefore considered to be one of the few regions in the world where significant undiscovered sources of hydrocarbon may exist. The aim of the book is to give an updated overview of the geology of the Arctic sedimentary basins and their petroleum potential. Although the different basins vary significantly as regards sedimentary fill and tectonic evolution, many of the basins share some of the characteristics needed to become prolific oil and gas provinces. The book contains 45 extensively illustrated articles. It starts with papers on the Mesozoic source rocks, and oceanic natural gas clatrates in the Arctic, respectively. Then follow articles on the regional and petroleum geology of the main regions; Greenland, North American Arctic, Soviet Arctic and the Barents Sea. Particular emphasis is placed on the Barents Sea. The two last chapters comprise articles on salt dynamics and methods. The book closes with a paper on international law in the Arctic. This volume will be of interest to both students and professional earth scientists/petroleum explorationists working in the northern latitudes. It will allow the readers to stay abreast of the development in this climatic region of the world.
