Book Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling sliding Contacts

Download or read book Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling sliding Contacts written by Farshid Sadeghi and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete numerical solution of thermal compressible elastohydrodynamic lubrication of rolling/sliding contacts has been obtained. The Newton-Raphson technique is used to solve the simultaneous system of Reynolds and elasticity equations. The control volume finite element modeling was employed to solve the energy equation and its boundary conditions. The effects of various loads, speeds, and slip conditions on the lubricant temperature, film thickness, and friction force have been investigated. The results indicate that the temperature effects are significant and cannot be neglected.

Book Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication

Download or read book Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication written by D. Dowson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication deals with the mechanism of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication, that is, the lubrication regime in operation over the small areas where machine components are in nominal point or line contact. The lubrication of rigid contacts is discussed, along with the effects of high pressure on the lubricant and bounding solids. The governing equations for the solution of elasto-hydrodynamic problems are presented. Comprised of 13 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication and representation of contacts by cylinders, followed by a discussion on equations relevant to lubrication, including the Reynolds equation. The reader is then introduced to lubrication of rigid cylinders; the importance of film thickness in highly loaded rigid contacts; the elasticity of solids in contact; and the theory of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication. Subsequent chapters focus on apparatus and measurements of film thickness and film shape; friction and viscosity; and lubrication of gears and roller bearings. This book will be of interest to tribologists.

Book Thermal Non Newtonian Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Line Contacts Under Sliding rolling and Simple Sliding Conditions

Download or read book Thermal Non Newtonian Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Line Contacts Under Sliding rolling and Simple Sliding Conditions written by Shao Wang and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thermal Reynolds-Eyring equation is derived to study the elastohydrodynamic lubrication of line contacts. This lubrication condition is usually found in spur gears, roller bearings and cams. The inlet region with back-flow is treated with a control volume scheme to obtain the temperature solution. A computationally-simple formulation for the stationary surface temperature is developed for simple sliding conditions. The most influential dimensionless groups are identified from the complete sets of dimensionless groups. Numerical results obtained for sliding and rolling and for simple sliding conditions are used to develop formulas for the thermal and non-Newtonian (Ree-Eyring) film thickness reduction factor. Even when thermal effects are small, these formulas can still give a film thickness reduction due to the non-Newtonian effects. Results for the maximum temperatures and traction coefficient are also presented. The pressure dependence of lubricant thermal conductivity is found to significantly affect the maximum lubricant temperature. The thermal effects on film thickness and traction are found to be more pronounced for simple sliding than for combined sliding and rolling conditions. Under simple sliding, the heat transferred to the stationary surface is found to be very small compared to that transferred to the moving surface and lubricating fluid.

Book A Numerical Solution to the Thermal elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling and Sliding Cylinders

Download or read book A Numerical Solution to the Thermal elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling and Sliding Cylinders written by H. S. Cheng and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing isothermal theories of elastohydrodynamic lubrication of rollers are extended to include the effects of temperature in the fluid and the solids due to heating from rolling, sliding and compression of the lubricant. The two dimensional finite difference method has been used in calculating the temperature in the fluid using local pressure-temperature dependent viscosity. Both the compressibility effect and the heat from compression of the lubricant are considered in the solution of the Reynolds and the energy equation. Two series of results were obtained. The first is a heavily loaded series intended to correlate with Crook's experimental results, and the second is a moderately loaded series intended to correlate with temperature measurements taken at this laboratory. These results show that temperature has a significant influence upon the shape of the pressure, film profile, but very little effect upon the magnitude of the film thickness in the contact zone. The frictional force is, however, strongly influenced by the temperature rise in the film. (Author).

Book Thermal and Thermoelastic Effects in Rolling Sliding Contacts

Download or read book Thermal and Thermoelastic Effects in Rolling Sliding Contacts written by T. A. Dow and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a theoretical and experimental study of thermal and thermomechanical effects on frictionally and electrically heated rolling/sliding surfaces. A 2-D thermal analysis is used to predict the temperature distribution through the thickness of the lubricant film in an elastohydrodynamic (EHD) contact. The relative magnitude of shear and compressive heating as well as the losses due to conduction and convection are compared for pure rolling and slip conditions. Originator-supplied key words include: Tribology, Elastohydrodynamic lubrication, Electrical brush, Wear, Thermal effects, Thermomechanical effects, Lubricant rheology, and High current density monolithic electrical brushes.

Book Modelling of Heavily Loaded Lubricated Contacts

Download or read book Modelling of Heavily Loaded Lubricated Contacts written by Farshid Sadeghi and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal elastohydrodynamic (EHD) lubrication of rolling/sliding line contacts is investigated to develop an interactive computer program for prediction of lubrication system performance. The user inputs lubricant and mechanical system physical properties as well as operating conditions of load and speed for calculation of contact zone pressure, temperature, traction, and stresses. This program is one of the first to include thermal effects in calculations and, therefore, can more accurately assess the critical tribological performance parameters at high load and speed conditions than previous prediction models. The program is written in the FORTRAN language and utilizes a UNIX operating system for high quality graphic output allowing easy visualization of results.

Book Multi Level Methods in Lubrication

Download or read book Multi Level Methods in Lubrication written by C.H. Venner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-07-21 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficient numerical solution of realistic and, therefore, complex equation systems occupies many researchers in many disciplines. For various reasons, but mainly in order to approximate reality, a very large number of unknowns are needed. Using classical techniques, the solution of such a system of equations would take too long, and so sometimes MultiLevel techniques are used to accelerate convergence. Over the last one and a half decades, the authors have studied the problem of Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication, governed by a complex integro-differential equation. Their work has resulted in a very efficient and stable solver. In this book they describe the different intermediate problems analyzed and solved, and how those ingredients finally come together in the EHL solver. A number of these intermediate problems, such as Hydrodynamic Lubrication and Dry Contact, are useful in their own right. In the Appendix the full codes of the Poisson problem, the Hydrodynamic Lubrication problem, the dry contact solver and the EHL solver are given. These codes are all written in 'C' language, based on the 'ANSI-C' version.
