Book Handbook of Nanoscience Engineering and Technology

Download or read book Handbook of Nanoscience Engineering and Technology written by William A. Goddard III and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 1075 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his 1959 address, "There is Plenty of Room at the Bottom," Richard P. Feynman speculated about manipulating materials atom by atom and challenged the technical community "to find ways of manipulating and controlling things on a small scale." This visionary challenge has now become a reality, with recent advances enabling atomistic-level tailoring and control of materials. Exemplifying Feynman’s vision, Handbook of Nanoscience, Engineering, and Technology, Third Edition continues to explore innovative nanoscience, engineering, and technology areas. Along with updating all chapters, this third edition extends the coverage of emerging nano areas even further. Two entirely new sections on energy and biology cover nanomaterials for energy storage devices, photovoltaics, DNA devices and assembly, digital microfluidic lab-on-a-chip, and much more. This edition also includes new chapters on nanomagnet logic, quantum transport at the nanoscale, terahertz emission from Bloch oscillator systems, molecular logic, electronic optics in graphene, and electromagnetic metamaterials. With contributions from top scientists and researchers from around the globe, this color handbook presents a unified, up-to-date account of the most promising technologies and developments in the nano field. It sets the stage for the next revolution of nanoscale manufacturing—where scalable technologies are used to manufacture large numbers of devices with complex functionalities.

Book Effect of Plastic Deformation on Subsequent Decomposition in Aluminum Alloys Al Si and Al Mg Si

Download or read book Effect of Plastic Deformation on Subsequent Decomposition in Aluminum Alloys Al Si and Al Mg Si written by Nikola©Œi Nikolaevich Bu©Œinov and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of plastic deformation on subsequent decomposition in the alloys Al-Si (1.2 percent Si) and Al-Mg-Si (1.4 percent Mg2Si) was studied with an electron microscope. These alloys were chosen because the first is easily quenched and does not age at room temperature and because in the second no decomposition after quenching and natural aging is detected with the electron microscope (although the properties change). These alloys were chosen also because they could be studied by the oxide-film method. This method was used to study the surface of the samples, which was etched before deformation and aging. It is then possible to observe simultaneously, on the electron photographs, precipitation, the block structure, and those alterations (slip lines, bending of blocks, cracks, etc.) in the submicroscopic structure of the alloys which are caused by deformation.

Book Nano scale Heat Transfer in Nanostructures

Download or read book Nano scale Heat Transfer in Nanostructures written by Jihong Al-Ghalith and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces modern atomistic techniques for predicting heat transfer in nanostructures, and discusses the applications of these techniques on three modern topics. The study of heat transport in screw-dislocated nanowires with low thermal conductivity in their bulk form represents the knowledge base needed for engineering thermal transport in advanced thermoelectric and electronic materials, and suggests a new route to lower thermal conductivity that could promote thermoelectricity. The study of high-temperature coating composite materials facilitates the understanding of the role played by composition and structural characterization, which is difficult to approach via experiments. And the understanding of the impact of deformations, such as bending and collapsing on thermal transport along carbon nanotubes, is important as carbon nanotubes, due to their exceptional thermal and mechanical properties, are excellent material candidates in a variety of applications, including thermal interface materials, thermal switches and composite materials.

Book Nonequilibrium Phonon Dynamics

Download or read book Nonequilibrium Phonon Dynamics written by Walter E. Bron and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phonons are always present in the solid state even at an absolute temperature of 0 K where zero point vibrations still abound. Moreover, phonons interact with all other excitations of the solid state and, thereby, influence most of its properties. Historically experimental information on phonon transport came from measurements of thermal conductivity. Over the past two decades much more, and much more detailed, information on phonon transport and on many of the inherent phonon interaction processes have come to light from experiments which use nonequilibrium phonons to study their dynamics. The resultant research field has most recently blossomed with the development of ever more sophisticated experimental and theoretical methods which can be applied to it. In fact, the field is moving so rapidly that new members of the research community have difficulties in keeping up to date. This NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) was organized with the objective of overcoming the information barrier between those expert in the field and those who are new to it. Thus it was decided to (i) organize a set of tutorially based lectures covering most of the important facets in the field, and (ii) to produce an Institute proceedings which would serve both as the first general textbook, as well as a valuable reference book, for this field of knowledge.

Book Anisotropy and Localization of Plastic Deformation

Download or read book Anisotropy and Localization of Plastic Deformation written by J.P. Boehler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present developments in materials science, mechanics and engineering, as well as the demands of modern technology, result in a new and growing interest in plasticity and in bordering domains of the mechanical behavior of materials. This growing interest is attested to by the success of both The International Journal of Plasticity, which after its inception rapidly became the leading journal for plasticity research, and the series ofInternational Symposia on Plasticity and Its Current Applications, which is now the premier international forum for plasticity research dissemination. The First International Symposium on Plasticity and Its Current Applications was conceived and organized by Professor Akhtar S. Khan, and was held at the University of Oklahoma (Norman, Oklahoma, USA) from July 30 to August 3, 1984. It was attended by over one hundred scientists from fifteen countries. "Plasticity '89: the Second International Symposium on Plasticity and Its Current Applications" was held at Mie University (Tsu, Japan) from July 31 to August 4, 1989; this symposium was co-chaired by Professors Khan and Tokuda. The main emphasis of this meeting was on dynamic plasticity and micromechanics, although it included other aspects of plasticity as well. It was attended by over two hundred researchers from twenty-three nations.
