She has a complex but potentially curable cancer from the outset - one that requires a surgical intervention, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to treat optimally. So Mitzi experiences everything. With a young and very active family to look after, she has a lot to live for so how she deals with uncertainty is fascinating. The disruption to her life by the cancer and its treatment is massive and to add to it all she is going through a marital breakdown at the same time.I feel it's an incredible privilege to be allowed to follow her journey so closely. 'This is essential reading for all who deal with cancer patients - health professionals, politicians, health service developers, carers and, of course, patients themselves. It clearly gives us a distillation of what cancer patients want. We need to create a new network of modern cancer centres where the latest technology in radiotherapy and chemotherapy is seamlessly delivered in a comfortable, welcoming environment. Book A Journey to Seeking God Real or Myth

Download or read book A Journey to Seeking God Real or Myth written by Florence Gaspar Muzi and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true story and now a speaker of God’s love and his empowerment bringing one around not only to the love of God but to work towards the image of his son in obedience and love of the Father, the goal is to love one another as he so love’s us, yes, sometimes difficult. I sit here in my little Eden – my backyard, I hear the mockingbird serenading in the background a gift from nature and God who has put joy back into my life and love. I comfortably write these words from witness of my children and myself; it is my hope that everyone that reads and witnesses God’s supernatural will share it with another and another and another; that we will speak freely the full story of witness. Perhaps the atheists who believe they can do it alone and in their last moments of life call for a priest, suddenly there not sure God is real and there. A change of heart is different from a change of mind – – think.

Book The Night Land

    Book Details:
  • Author : William Hope Hodgson
  • Publisher : Standard Ebooks
  • Release : 2020-04-14T21:13:11Z
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 546 pages

Download or read book The Night Land written by William Hope Hodgson and published by Standard Ebooks. This book was released on 2020-04-14T21:13:11Z with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Night Land is science fiction ahead of its time. Published in 1912, the book introduces a 17th-century gentleman who loses his wife. He soon discovers himself somehow reanimated in Earth’s far future, millions of years from now, when the sun has died and the Earth has become a hellish waste. What remains of humanity lives in titanic mile-high pyramids surrounded by energy shields to protect them from the abhuman monsters lurking in the darkness. The human survivors soon receive a distress signal sent by a long-forgotten lesser pyramid, and the narrator embarks on a bloody quest to rescue the maiden of the pyramid—which he knows to be his lost love, somehow transcending time and space. On his journey the narrator is beset by countless horrifying monsters, many of them mutated former-humans. These depictions are so singular that H. P. Lovecraft called The Night Land “one of the most potent pieces of macabre imagination ever written.” The novel is unique in its farsighted depiction of technology. The narrator has telepathic powers and is able to communicate with others over long distances. These powers are enabled by his “brain elements,” which are possibly surgically-implanted. Telepathic communications may be spied upon by the monsters of the waste, but a “master word” sent by the caller may verify the integrity of the signal—a description of a kind of early public-key cryptography. The narrator survives on food pellets and “powdered water,” predicting a kind of astronaut food. His weapon of choice is a Diskos, a kind of whirling razor-sharp blade that shoots fire and energy. The machines and force fields of the human pyramid monument are powered by “Earth current,” which the narrator worries is slowly becoming dimmer over the years. The pyramid itself is a jewel of imagination: described as miles wide and miles high, each layer is its own city, and it continues deep underground where artificial grow chambers provide food for millions of humans. Though the novel maintains a sort of legendary status for its grim and imaginative depiction of a monstrous future world, critics acknowledge the work as a flawed masterpiece. The narrative is written in a highly affected style, perhaps meant to emulate 17th century speech, or perhaps meant to be a stylized form of speech used by far-future humans. In any case, it resembles no real style of English, past or present. While some critics praise this style as uniquely atmospheric, others point to it, along with the lack of dialog or proper names, as some of the book’s more difficult aspects. Critics also frequently cite the book’s highly repetitious nature, simplistic characterization, and inordinate length—nearly 200,000 words—as major flaws. But despite whatever flaws the novel may have, the awesome vision of The Night Land remains a marvel to behold. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Download or read book Wild West to Agile written by Jim Highsmith and published by Addison-Wesley Professional. This book was released on 2023-05-17 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wild West to Agile: The evolution and revolution of software development, drawn from personal experience, from the Apollo moon mission to digital transformations. In 2023, "technology is your business--no matter what your business." But how did we get here and how could a historical perspective prepare us for the future? Jim Highsmith tackles the evolution and revolution of software development, embellishes them with personal experiences, from the Apollo moon mission to modern digital transformations, and introduces the adventurous pioneers--from structured era developer Ken Orr to Agile methodologist Kent Beck--who strived to make the world a better place, by building better software. Jim's six-decade career has encompassed the Wild West (1966-1979), to Structured Methods and Monumental Methodologies (1980s), to the Roots of Agile (1990s), to the present Agile Era (2001-present). In each era, he explores the evolution of software development methods, methodologies, and mindsets. Whether you are from the 1970-1980's generation looking for an "I was there too" moment, a newer generation interested in the evolution of software development, the Agile generation interested in how Agile methodologies were born and evolved, or have a general interest in information technology, Wild West to Agile has something for you. "Jim Highsmith is the Forrest Gump of software development. What made the 1994 movie so entertaining was how frequently Forrest found himself in the right spot as history was being made. Unlike Forrest, though, Jim's actions influenced that history." --Mike Cohn, cofounder of the Agile Alliance, and the Scrum Alliance; author of Succeeding with Agile "If you want to understand the shape of software development today, this is the book for you. If you want to understand how to navigate a turbulent career with grace & style, this is also the book for you. If you enjoy memoirs, ditto. Enjoy his story." --Kent Beck, Chief Scientist, Mechanical Orchard; author, Extreme Programming Explained "This entire journey--beginning with the Wild West era of software development through the Agile Era to today's Digital Transformation era--is entirely empowered by people. Thank you, Jim, for sharing these beautiful stories and honoring the people that were a part of this amazing journey." --Heidi J. Musser, Vice President and CIO, USAA, retired "I've always felt that understanding history is important, because it's hard to understand where we are unless you understand the path that we took to get here. Jim's memoir is an entertaining and astute odyssey through this history." --Martin Fowler, Chief Scientist, Thoughtworks
