Book Theory of Distributions for Locally Compact Spaces

Download or read book Theory of Distributions for Locally Compact Spaces written by Leon Ehrenpreis and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1956 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of distributions of Laurent Schwartz may be regarded as a study of the operators [partial symbol]/[partial symbol]x[subscript]i on Euclidean space. In the present paper we should like to shoe in what manner the methods of Schwartz can be extended to a much more general class of functional operators, which act on functions defined on a locally compact space R which is denumerable at infinity.

Book Lie Algebras and Lie Groups

Download or read book Lie Algebras and Lie Groups written by and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1955 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Mathematical Society, with the financial support of the National Science Foundation, held its First Summer Mathematical Institute from June 20 to July 31, 1953. The topic chosen was Lie theory, twenty-nine mathematicians active in this area attended. The six-week period provided opportunity both for the interchange of ideas and for the subsequent shaping of ideas into theorems. The five papers present some results achieved by the participants.--Foreword.

Book Fourier Analysis of Unbounded Measures on Locally Compact Abelian Groups

Download or read book Fourier Analysis of Unbounded Measures on Locally Compact Abelian Groups written by Loren N. Argabright and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1974 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In harmonic analysis on a LCA group G, the term "Fourier transform" has a variety of meanings. It refers to various objects constructed in special ways, depending on the desired theory. The standard theories include the theory of Fourier-Stieltjes transforms, the Plancherel theorem, and the Bochner theorem can be viewed as another aspect of this phenomenon. However, except for special cases, we know of no attempt in the literature to undertake the desired synthesis. The purpose of the present work is to give a systematic account of such an attempt.

Book Characterization of Probability Distributions on Locally Compact Abelian Groups

Download or read book Characterization of Probability Distributions on Locally Compact Abelian Groups written by Gennadiy Feldman and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2023-04-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that if two independent identically distributed random variables are Gaussian, then their sum and difference are also independent. It turns out that only Gaussian random variables have such property. This statement, known as the famous Kac-Bernstein theorem, is a typical example of a so-called characterization theorem. Characterization theorems in mathematical statistics are statements in which the description of possible distributions of random variables follows from properties of some functions of these random variables. The first results in this area are associated with famous 20th century mathematicians such as G. Pólya, M. Kac, S. N. Bernstein, and Yu. V. Linnik. By now, the corresponding theory on the real line has basically been constructed. The problem of extending the classical characterization theorems to various algebraic structures has been actively studied in recent decades. The purpose of this book is to provide a comprehensive and self-contained overview of the current state of the theory of characterization problems on locally compact Abelian groups. The book will be useful to everyone with some familiarity of abstract harmonic analysis who is interested in probability distributions and functional equations on groups.

Book Sequences Discrepancies and Applications

Download or read book Sequences Discrepancies and Applications written by Michael Drmota and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to give an overview of the developments during the last 20 years in the theory of uniformly distributed sequences. The authors focus on various aspects such as special sequences, metric theory, geometric concepts of discrepancy, irregularities of distribution, continuous uniform distribution and uniform distribution in discrete spaces. Specific applications are presented in detail: numerical integration, spherical designs, random number generation and mathematical finance. Furthermore over 1000 references are collected and discussed. While written in the style of a research monograph, the book is readable with basic knowledge in analysis, number theory and measure theory.

Book Topological Vector Spaces Distributions and Kernels

Download or read book Topological Vector Spaces Distributions and Kernels written by François Treves and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological Vector Spaces, Distributions and Kernels discusses partial differential equations involving spaces of functions and space distributions. The book reviews the definitions of a vector space, of a topological space, and of the completion of a topological vector space. The text gives examples of Frechet spaces, Normable spaces, Banach spaces, or Hilbert spaces. The theory of Hilbert space is similar to finite dimensional Euclidean spaces in which they are complete and carry an inner product that can determine their properties. The text also explains the Hahn-Banach theorem, as well as the applications of the Banach-Steinhaus theorem and the Hilbert spaces. The book discusses topologies compatible with a duality, the theorem of Mackey, and reflexivity. The text describes nuclear spaces, the Kernels theorem and the nuclear operators in Hilbert spaces. Kernels and topological tensor products theory can be applied to linear partial differential equations where kernels, in this connection, as inverses (or as approximations of inverses), of differential operators. The book is suitable for vector mathematicians, for students in advanced mathematics and physics.

Book Theory of Distributions

Download or read book Theory of Distributions written by Svetlin G. Georgiev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains many fundamental ideas on the theory of distributions. The theory of partial differential equations is one of the synthetic branches of analysis that combines ideas and methods from different fields of mathematics, ranging from functional analysis and harmonic analysis to differential geometry and topology. This presents specific difficulties to those studying this field. This book, which consists of 10 chapters, is suitable for upper undergraduate/graduate students and mathematicians seeking an accessible introduction to some aspects of the theory of distributions. It can also be used for one-semester course.
