It presupposes a knowledge of debit and credit, and from this point con ducts the serious student through the field of accounting. Book Accounting Theory and Practice

Download or read book Accounting Theory and Practice written by Roy Bernard Kester and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Accounting Theory and Practice: A First Year Text The present volume gives the scope of the work in accounting offered in the first year of the School of Busi ness of Columbia University, and is an effort to mark out and define the portion Of the whole subject which can be handled effectively in one year's time. There is a real demand for a one-year course which will treat the subject in a general way and give a brief view of the entire field. The author believes, however, that accounting in its broadest sense is just beginning to receive the consideration which it deserves and that more and more is recognition being given to the necessity of a thorough knowledge of its principles and their application, for effec tive work in all lines of business activity. Accordingly, the material in this first volume is not presented to meet the demand of the casual reader or of the student seeking a bird's-eye view of the entire field, since much of the sub jcet matter is reserved for presentation in a second volume which the author hopes to have ready in the course of another year. In that will be taken up a more detailed treatment of the balance sheet in connection with its prob lem of valuation; various aspects of the corporation and of the income statement, not adequately handled in this vol ume; together with some miscellaneous topics, including forms of special statements, branch accounting, sinking funds, and other similar subjects. Book Student s Handbook of Accounting

Download or read book Student s Handbook of Accounting written by Joseph J. Klein and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Student's Handbook of Accounting: Solutions to Questions in Theory of Accounts, Practical Accounting, and Auditing Contained in Elements of Accounting Elements of Accounting was published in June, 1913. As stated at that time, it was written mainly to bridge the gap between bookkeeping and accounting. That it has filled a real need is evidenced by the friendly reviews and comments of accountants, teachers, and lay critics. The hearty reception which has been accorded to it has necessitated three editions within a period of about a year and a half. At the request of many students and teachers, the publishers arranged with the author to produce authoritative solutions to the practical exercises appended to the respective chapters in Elements of Accounting. To enhance the value of these solutions they have been cast into what may be termed C. P. A. Form. Moreover, there have been included references for those who wish to make a further study of the points treated in the different solutions. This supplementary research material has been included in the belief that it will be welcomed by the ambi tious student. This handbook should be used in connection with Elements of Accounting. Such correlation, however, is not absolutely essential because of the fact that the exercises of the accounting text have been incorporated in the present volume. For obvious pedagogic reasons, each question is immediately followed by its answer or solution. The solutions to Groups II will probably be employed by many as much for the forms displayed and illus tratad, as because they constitute solutions to specific practical accounting problems. The entire volume may be employed as a special or supplementary text in Accounting. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Accounts: Containing the Essentials of Bookkeeping and Forms of Higher Accounting If we wish to make entries in the day book that do not show debits or credits, we can use any descriptive style that may be brief and plain and omit the term Dr. Or Cr. The day book is generally ruled with two amount columns, the first being used for the items of a transaction, and the second for the total of these items. If only one item belongs to a transaction, its amount can be carried out to the last column. A transaction that is partly for cash and partly on account, as a purchase with cash paid for a part of the amount and the balance on account, or a sale with cash received for a part of the amount and the balance on account, should be posted in full in the ledger. The entire purchase should be credited from the day book, and the cash paid to apply on same should be debited from the cash book; or the entire sale should be debited from the day book, and the cash received to ap ply ou same should be credited from the cash book. Download or read book Accounting Problems Intermediate Classic Reprint written by Charles F. Rittenhouse and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Accounting Problems Intermediate This book of exercises in accounting is the result of work by the authors extending over several years in collecting and pre paring problems and exercises of an intermediate grade which would provide the instructor of accounting with a variety of laboratory material of a practical and teachable character. It should be understood that the book is essentially a compilation of problems and exercises illustrated by model statements of various types, rather than a presentation of accounting theory. It is, therefore, intended to be used in conjunction with a text on accounting theory or to supplement the instructor's own lectures on the subject. The work is adapted to second year students or to those even further advanced in their accounting course. It is divided into two parts. Part I consists of more than forty model forms of financial statements and reports with comments and interpretations. These serve the purpose of familiarizing the student with forms of statements and reports adaptable to representative busi nesses and institutions, and at the same time they aim to present within certain limits the standardized practice in form and arrangement of such statements. The published balance sheets of representative industrial concerns of this country and Great Britain which are reproduced should broaden the horizon of the student, add to his knowledge of accounts and accounting terms, and serve to develop his power to interpret statements from the point of view of the business executive, banker, and investor.
