Book Metal Forming Interrelation Between Theory and Practice

Download or read book Metal Forming Interrelation Between Theory and Practice written by A. L. Hoffmanner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On October 21 and 22, 1970, the Shaping and Forming Committee, Institute of Metals Division, The Metallurgical Society of AlME, held a Conference on "The Relation Between Theory and Practice it). Metal Forming" at the Sheraton-Cleveland Hotel during the Fall Meeting of AIME in Cleveland, Ohio. This conference was devoted to recent applications of theory to metal forming to establish a milestone in the current ability to predict phenomena during deformation processing and, thereby, demonstrate the utility of theory for process design. The papers were selected by first requesting presentations of relevant recent work from 68 recognized authorities in metal forming which resulted in 17 papers. A sub sequent call for papers resulted in the submission of 19 abstracts from which 4 papers were selected. The selection criteria required that the paper coupled theory with practice, and that the work was recent, unpublished and worthy of permanent record. The selection was performed by the Conference Chairman. The papers in this volume have been organized in accordance with the following subjects: Extrusion Drawing and Sheet Metal Forming Forming Loads and Friction Workability These papers appear to assess the salient recent applications of mechanics to the deformation processing of alloys at the present time, i. e. , circa 1970, A, L. Book Manufacturing Processes 4

Download or read book Manufacturing Processes 4 written by Fritz Klocke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides essential information on metal forming, utilizing a practical distinction between bulk and sheet metal forming. In the field of bulk forming, it examines processes of cold, warm and hot bulk forming, as well as rolling and a new addition, the process of thixoforming. As for the field of sheet metal working, on the one hand it deals with sheet metal forming processes (deep drawing, flange forming, stretch drawing, metal spinning and bending). In terms of special processes, the chapters on internal high-pressure forming and high rate forming have been revised and refined. On the other, the book elucidates and presents the state of the art in sheet metal separation processes (shearing and fineblanking). Furthermore, joining by forming has been added to the new edition as a new chapter describing mechanical methods for joining sheet metals. The new chapter “Basic Principles” addresses both sheet metal and bulk forming, in addition to metal physics, plastomechanics and computational basics; these points are complemented by the newly added topics of metallography and analysis, materials and processes for testing, and tribology and lubrication techniques. The chapters are supplemented by an in-depth description of modern numeric methods such as the finite element method. All chapters have been updated and revised for the new edition, and many practical examples from modern manufacturing processes have been added.

Book Mechanics of Sheet Metal Forming

Download or read book Mechanics of Sheet Metal Forming written by D. Koistinen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the proceedings of an international symposium on "ME CHANICS OF SHEET METAL FORMING: Material Behavior and Deformation Analysis." It was sponsored and held at the General Motors Research Labora tories on October 17-18, 1977. This symposium was the twenty-first in an annual series. The objective of this symposium was to discuss the research frontiers in experimental and theoretical methods of sheet metal forming analysis and, also, to determine directions of future research to advance technology that would be useful in metal stamping plants. Metal deformation analyses which provide guide lines for metal flanging are already in use. Moreover, recent advances in computer techniques for solving plastic flow equations and in measurements of material parameters are leading to dynamic models of many stamping operations. These models would accurately predict the stresses and strains in the sheet as a function of punch travel. They would provide the engineer with the knowledge he needs to improve die designs. The symposium papers were organized into five sessions: the state of the art, constitutive relations of sheet metal, role of friction, sheet metal formability, and deformation analysis of stamping operations. We believe this volume not only summarizes the various viewpoints at the time of the symposium, but also pro vides an outlook for materials and mechanics research in the future.

Book Deep Time of the Media

Download or read book Deep Time of the Media written by Siegfried Zielinski and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2008-02-15 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quest to find something new by excavating the "deep time" of media's development—not by simply looking at new media's historic forerunners, but by connecting models, machines, technologies, and accidents that have until now remained separated. Deep Time of the Media takes us on an archaeological quest into the hidden layers of media development—dynamic moments of intense activity in media design and construction that have been largely ignored in the historical-media archaeological record. Siegfried Zielinski argues that the history of the media does not proceed predictably from primitive tools to complex machinery; in Deep Time of the Media, he illuminates turning points of media history—fractures in the predictable—that help us see the new in the old. Drawing on original source materials, Zielinski explores the technology of devices for hearing and seeing through two thousand years of cultural and technological history. He discovers the contributions of "dreamers and modelers" of media worlds, from the ancient Greek philosopher Empedocles and natural philosophers of the Renaissance and Baroque periods to Russian avant-gardists of the early twentieth century. "Media are spaces of action for constructed attempts to connect what is separated," Zielinski writes. He describes models and machines that make this connection: including a theater of mirrors in sixteenth-century Naples, an automaton for musical composition created by the seventeenth-century Jesuit Athanasius Kircher, and the eighteenth-century electrical tele-writing machine of Joseph Mazzolari, among others. Uncovering these moments in the media-archaeological record, Zielinski says, brings us into a new relationship with present-day moments; these discoveries in the "deep time" media history shed light on today's media landscape and may help us map our expedition to the media future.
