Download or read book New Departures in Marxian Theory written by Stephen Resnick and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-09-27 with total page 859 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last twenty-five years, Stephen Resnick and Richard Wolff have developed a groundbreaking interpretation of Marxian theory generally and of Marxian economics in particular. This book brings together their key contributions and underscores their different interpretations. In facing and trying to resolve contradictions and lapses within Marxism, the authors have confronted the basic incompatibilities among the dominant modern versions of Marxian theory, and the fact that Marxism seemed cut off from the criticisms of determinist modes of thought offered by post-structuralism and post-modernism and even by some of Marxism’s greatest theorists.

Book Routledge Handbook of Marxian Economics

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Marxian Economics written by David M. Brennan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most developed economies are characterized by high levels of inequality and an inability to provide stability or opportunity for many of their citizens. Mainstream economics has proven to be of little assistance in addressing these systemic failures, and this has led both scholars and students to seek alternatives. One such alternative is provided by Marxian economics. In recent decades the field has seen tremendous theoretical development and Marxian perspectives have begun to appear in public discourse in unprecedented ways. This handbook contains thirty-seven original essays from a wide range of leading international scholars, recognized for their expertise in different areas of Marxian economics. Its scope is broad, ranging from contributions on familiar Marxist concepts such as value theory, the labor process, accumulation, crisis and socialism, to others not always associated with the Marxian canon, like feminism, ecology, international migration and epistemology. This breadth of coverage reflects the development of Marxian economic and social theory, and encompasses both the history and the frontiers of current scholarship. This handbook provides an extensive statement of the current shape and future direction of Marxian economics. The Routledge Handbook of Marxian Economics is an invaluable resource for students, researchers and policy makers seeking guidance in this field. It is designed to serve both as a reference work and as a supplementary text for classroom use, with applications for courses in economics, sociology, political science, management, anthropology, development studies, philosophy and history.

Book Marxian Economics A Reappraisal

Download or read book Marxian Economics A Reappraisal written by Riccardo Bellofiore and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-02-12 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Springing from a conference held in Bergamo University on the occasion of the centenary of the publication by Engels of the third book of Capital, the papers collected in these two volumes reinstate Marx's as the first genuinely evolutionary economic theory. In this, the capitalist process incessantly brings about states which will by themselves generate the next ones. Thus as Schumpeter remarked, Marx was the first to 'visualise what even at the present time is still the economic theory of the future for which we are slowly and laboriously accumulating stone and mortar, statistical facts and functional equations'.

Book Marx s Theory of Crisis

Download or read book Marx s Theory of Crisis written by Simon Clarke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of crisis has always played a central role within Marxism, and yet has been one of its weakest elements. Simon Clarke's important new book provides the first systematic account of Marx's own writings on crisis, examining the theory within the context of Marx's critique of political economy and of the dynamics of capitalism. The book concentrates on the scientific interpretation and evaluation of the theory of crisis, and will be of interest to mainstream economists, as well as to sociologists, political scientists and students of Marx and Marxism.

Book An Introduction to the Three Volumes of Karl Marx s Capital

Download or read book An Introduction to the Three Volumes of Karl Marx s Capital written by Michael Heinrich and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global economic crisis and recession that began in 2008 had at least one unexpected outcome: a surge in sales of Karl Marx's Capital. Although mainstream economists and commentators once dismissed Marx's work as outmoded and flawed, some are begrudgingly acknowledging an analysis that sees capitalism as inherently unstable. And of course, there are those, like Michael Heinrich, who have seen the value of Marx all along, and are in a unique position to explain the intricacies of Marx's thought. Heinrich's modern interpretation of Capital is now available to English-speaking readers for the first time. It has gone through nine editions in Germany, is the standard work for Marxist study groups, and is used widely in German universities. The author systematically covers all three volumes of Capital and explains all the basic aspects of Marx's critique of capitalism in a way that is clear and concise. He provides background information on the intellectual and political milieu in which Marx worked, and looks at crucial issues beyond the scope of Capital, such as class struggle, the relationship between capital and the state, accusations of historical determinism, and Marx's understanding of communism. Uniquely, Heinrich emphasizes the monetary character of Marx's work, in addition to the traditional emphasis on the labor theory of value, this highlighting the relevance of Capital to the age of financial explosions and implosions.

Book Marx s Economics

Download or read book Marx s Economics written by Michio Morishima and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1973 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Morishima concentrates on the three volumes of Das Kapital and their contributions to the major topics of traditional Marxian economics. He provides a rigorous mathematisation of the labour theory of value, the theory of exploitation, the transformation problem, the reproduction scheme, the law of relative surplus population, the falling rate of capital and the turnover of capital. After proving Marxian propositions in a rigorous way, he argues that in order to combine Marx's model with von Neumann's in a new growth theory it is necessary to abandon the labour theory of value. Professor Morishima feels that this sacrifice is well worth making, because it enables Marxian economics to be integrated with orthodox theory into a new Marx-von Neumann theory of growth, and this to make an important contribution to the development of the subject.
