Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarises the outcom of a priority research programme: 'Analysis, Modelling and Computation of Multiphase Flows'. The results of 24 individual research projects are presented. The main objective of the research programme was to provide a better understanding of the physical basis for multiphase gas-liquid flows as they are found in numerous chemical and biochemical reactors. The research comprises steady and unsteady multiphase flows in three frequently found reactor configurations, namely bubble columns without interiors, airlift loop reactors, and aerated stirred vessels. For this purpose new and improved measurement techniques were developed. From the resulting knowledge and data, new and refined models for describing the underlying physical processes were developed, which were used for the establishment and improvement of analytic as well as numerical methods for predicting multiphase reactors. Thereby, the development, lay-out and scale-up of such processes should be possible on a more reliable basis.

Book An Investigation of Two phase Gas liquid Mixtures Flowing in Variable Area Ducts Part A Nozzle Flows Part B Diffuser Flows

This book was released on 1963 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research concerns the experimental and theoretical studies of the flow of a predominantly liquid two-phase fluid in nozzles and diffusers, undertaken as part of a longrange program dealing with the development of a gas-driven jet pumpt for rocket engines. The physical description of the flow is based on momentum, heat, and mass transfer phenomena, droplet mechanics, and the influence of flow geometry and operating conditions. As the mass ratio of one of the components is increased, it is imperative to consider at least some aspects of the discreteness of the component of lower volume in mass and energy transfer processes in a theoretical analysis for a first-order prediction of velocities, droplet diameters, and pressure for the flow in an accelerating or nozzle flow and a decelerating or diffuser flow. In the nozzle experiments, the total flow rate and the mass ratio of liquid to gas were varied to establish a series of design and performance parameters. The experimental investigation for diffusing flows was performed employing a conical diffuser and a predominantly liquid medium with the gas in the form of small bubbles dispersed in the liquid. The objects of the research were to determine the feasibility of diffusing a free jet to liquid and the effect of gas entrained in the flowing liquid. (Author).

Book Electromagnetic Measurement of Bubble Velocity in Two phase Dielectric Fluid Flow

Download or read book Electromagnetic Measurement of Bubble Velocity in Two phase Dielectric Fluid Flow written by and published by . This book was released on 1910 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with the theoretical and experimental investigation of two-phase flow for a dielectric liquid electromagneticf lowmeter. So far only limited investigationsi nto the possibleu se of electromagneticf lowmeters for multiphasef low measuremenht ave been made. These have been restricted to electromagnetic flowmeters designed for conducting water based (electrolytic) fluids. The possibility of designing electromagnetic flowmeters for use with insulating (dielectric) fluids such as oil and petrol has been existed for some years. However the measuremenot f two-phase flow of insulating fluids using electromagnetic flowmeters and the application of this knowledge to the measurement of the separate phases has not yet been a subject for research. An analytical model is developed which evaluates a transformer signal that is produced on the electrodes when a bubble unbalances eddy currents while it passes through the meter. The shape and magnitude of this signal for various positions in the pipe cross-section is investigated. The behaviour of this transformer signal for various electrode shapes is studied as well and it is found that when using large area electrodes the position of the amplitude along the pipe axis remains almost constant. For measuring the speed of bubbles passing through the meter a frequency analysis is carried out and shows that the peak frequency of the signal is proportional to the velocity of the bubbles. A flowmeter is built to carry out experimental work. The first sets of experiments are carried out with plastic beads fixed on a thin string which is attached around two wheels. The speed of the beads is adjusted by an electromotor which powered one wheel. In a second experimental design gas bubbles are injected in a vertical pipe which is filled with dielectric oil. Both types of experiments exhibit the behaviour predicted in theoretical analysis.

Book Theoretical Investigation of Gas Bubble Liquid Mixture Flows Through Converging Diverging Nozzles

Download or read book Theoretical Investigation of Gas Bubble Liquid Mixture Flows Through Converging Diverging Nozzles written by Subba Rao Gutti and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solutions are developed for a one dimensional compressible gas bubble-liquid mixture flow through a converging-diverging nozzle. Gas is assumed in the form of spherical bubbles that do not exchange mass with the liquid, but allowance is made for a differential between bubble and liquid velocities. The critical condition for the specified initial flow conditions is found by iteration to establish the local slope of the nozzle wall at each step near the throat, and thus the critical throat is designed uniquely for each flow. Assuming adiabatic expansion for the air bubbles critical and supercritical solutions are obtained for a few specified initial conditions. A choking condition is noted at the section just upstream of the geometric throat of the nozzle. (Author).
