Download or read book Consumer Preferences and Acceptance of Food Products written by Derek V. Byrne and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acceptance and preference of the sensory properties of foods are among the most important criteria determining food choice. Sensory perception and our response to food products, and finally food choice itself, are affected by a myriad of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The pressing question is, how do these factors specifically affect our acceptance and preference for foods, both in and of themselves, and in combination in various contexts, both fundamental and applied? In addition, which factors overall play the largest role in how we perceive and behave towards food in daily life? Finally, how can these factors be utilized to affect our preferences and final acceptance of real food and food products from industrial production and beyond for healthier eating? A closer look at trends in research showcasing the influence that these factors and our senses have on our perception and affective response to food products and our food choices is timely. Thus, in this Special Issue collection “Consumer Preferences and Acceptance of Food Products”, we bring together articles which encompass the wide scope of multidisciplinary research in the space related to the determination of key factors involved linked to fundamental interactions, cross-modal effects in different contexts and eating scenarios, as well as studies that utilize unique study design approaches and methodologies.
Download or read book C S Lewis The Work of Christ Revealed written by P. H. Brazier and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C. S. Lewis--The Work of Christ Revealed focuses on three doctrines or aspects of Lewis's theology and philosophy: his doctrine of Scripture, his famous mad, bad, or God argument, and his doctrine of christological prefigurement. In each area we see Lewis innovating within the tradition. He accorded a high revelatory status to Scripture, but acknowledged its inconsistencies and shrank away from a theology of inerrancy. He took a two-thousand-year-old theological tradition of aut Deus aut malus homo (either God or a bad man) and developed it in his own way. Most innovative of all was his doctrine of christological prefigurement--intimations of the Christ-event in pagan mythology and ritual. This book forms the second in a series of three studies on the theology of C. S Lewis titled C. S. Lewis, Revelation, and the Christ (www.cslewisandthechrist.net). The books are written for academics and students, but also, crucially, for those people, ordinary Christians, without a theology degree who enjoy and gain sustenance from reading Lewis's work.

Download or read book The Personal and the Political in American Working Class Literature 1850 1939 written by Laurie J. C. Cella and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As working women invaded the public space of the factory in the nineteenth century, they challenged Victorian notions of female domesticity and chastity. With virtue at the forefront of discussions regarding working women, aspects of working-class women’s culture—fashion, fiction, and dance halls—become vivid signifiers for moral impropriety, and attempts to censure these activities become overt attempts to censure female sexuality in the workplace. The Personal and the Political in American Working-Class Literature, 1850–1939 argues that these informal and often ignored “trifles” of female community provided the building blocks for female solidarity in the workplace. While most critical approaches to working-class fiction emphasize female suffering rather than agency, this book argues that working women themselves viewed aspects of consumer culture and new avenues for courtship as extensions of their rights as breadwinners. The strike itself is an intense moment of political upheaval that lends itself to more extensive personal and sexual freedoms. Through its analysis of strike novels, this book provides a fuller picture of working-class women as they simultaneously navigate new identities as “working ladies” and enter the dramatic and sometimes violent world of labor activism. This book is recommended for scholars of literary studies, women’s studies, and US history.

Download or read book Giovanni Pascoli Gabriele D Annunzio and the Ethics of Desire written by Elena Borelli and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the notion of desire in late-nineteenth-century Italy, and how this notion shapes the life and works of two of Italy’s most prominent authors at that time, Giovanni Pascoli and Gabriele D’Annunzio. In the fin de siècle, the philosophical speculation on desire, inspired by Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche intersected the popularization of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. Within this context, desire is conceptualized as an obscure force and remnant of mankind’s animalistic origins. Both Pascoli and D’Annunzio put into play the drama of desire as a force splitting the unity of the characters in their works, and variously attempt to provide solutions to this haunting force within the human self.

Download or read book In Pandora s Jar written by Monica Silveira Cyrino and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1995 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study traces developments in early Greek poetry in the use of disease and madness-type imagery to express aspects of the erotic experience. Cyrino also works to illuminate the relationships between the early hexameter narrative poets and the archaic lyric poets who employ this imagery in their works. The arrangement of this study is conveniently chronological as to make the interrelations between the uses of this imagery by different authors in different periods more easily understandable. The author takes particular notice of the first instances of usage of disease and madness imagery for love, and how and where variations on the theme or new uses of the old image occur, and of the characteristic metaphorical habits of each poet. Contents: Preface; Introduction; Eros; Homer; Hesiod and the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite; The Lyric Poets: Archiochos and Alkman; The Lyric Poets: Alkaios, Ibykos and Anakreon; Sappho; Conclusions; Bibliography; Index of Passages Cited; Index of Greek Words; General Index.
