Book excerpt: "Why did I say that? Why did I do that? Where on earth did those mean thoughts and motivations come from? I'm so glad no one can read my mind." We all get whiplashed and sometimes broadsided by the "dark" side of our nature, which produces thoughts and behaviors that cause us to feel ashamed. many of us deny that part of ourselves, and kick it off somewhere in the shadowy recesses of the heart, where we hope it will stay put, not cause us any more trouble, and hopefully not be noticed. In The Zippered Heart, Marilyn does a gentle exploration of those secrets and issues which, if denied, can rob us of the abundant life we are promised in Christ. God means for us to be whole. This book is an encouragement in that process. "This book will change lives, because it requires that we look precisely at both the dark and the light sides of ourselves. Then it brings an overflowing grace and forgiveness. As a psychologist with thirty-five years of clinical experience, I can say that this is one of the best books I have read." ?Neil Clark Warren, author of Finding the Love of Your Life "Step into liberty through the rapscallion brilliance of Marilyn Meberg." ?Patsy Clairmont, author of Mending Your Heart in a Broken World "For thirty years Marilyn's compassionate exploration of the human heart has amazed me. Now, with skill and tenderness she opens that heart for all of us to see how fearfully and wonderfully we are made." ?Luci Swindoll, author, speaker, Women of Faith "The Zippered Heart is a perceptive and sensitive examination of the 'war within' between our two natures." ?Archibald D. Hart, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, Graduate School of Psychology, Fuller Theological Seminary

Book excerpt: Each person has his or her own particular way of looking at life: a kind of grid that helps readers process whatever comes their way. Though this grid can be a helpful tool, far too often it is a weight around the neck. So what can be done about it? How can readers change their perspectives–replacing the grid that drags them down with one that equips them to face life’s challenges and live victoriously? In Look at It This Way, author and speaker Jan Silvious explores, in-depth, vital truths that can help Christians reframe the way they think: breaking them out of their self-pity, anger, depression, anxiety and hopelessness, and equipping them to deal with the events, circumstances and people in their lives in a healthy and positive way. Jan highlights such key truths as “Whatever happens, it’s one event in a lifetime of events,” “For every choice there is a consequence,” “God isn’t angry with you,” “The last chapter has not been written,” and eight others. Deeply rooted in Scripture, these valuable insights will give readers hope and real help for managing their thinking, showing how they can, at last, move forward with the courageous and grace-filled life God intended them to live.

Download or read book A Schizophrenic S Notes written by Thomas Griffith and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-12-12 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I could have written stories, fables, anecdotes, etc., like so many authors have. But when I am reading fiction, I often wish I knew what the author was really trying to say. I didnt want a long distance runaround. Rather I wanted the plain and simple directions to the destination s/he had in mind. I dont believe the genius is in the details, but in getting the message across. So I wrote down what I know, not what my imagination could spin or weave with it. I tried to be clear and to stay on the subject. I tried to be lyrical, heavy and familiar. In this book, A Schizophrenics Notes, I often write about inner space, and the risks inherent to connecting with others, or of failing to connect with others, with our inner space. As much as I would have liked to have given the reader a handle or steering wheel to hold on to, that didnt happen. I certainly dont have a handle. One of my favorite lines in my writing is a Buddhist one, The way that can be described isnt the Way.
