Perfect for fans of Winston Graham's Poldark and Diana Gabaldon. 'A fast-moving and exciting read [that] leaves the reader breathless for the next book in the series' - Historical Novels Review Cornwall: 1791. As the civil unrest in France gathers force, ripples of conflict are also reaching across the Channel, for the Loveday family are fighting their own private battles. Charles Mercer - Edward Loveday's brother-in-law - has been found dead, the reputation of his eminent bank in tatters. Charles has left the Lovedays facing emotional trauma and financial ruin. But risk comes as second nature to the Lovedays. Adam Loveday finds refuge from the pressures of keeping the family boatyard solvent in the arms of gypsy-bred Senara - whom he is determined to marry despite his father's threats of disinheritance. And his twin, St John, angry at having to curb his spending, throws in his hand with the Sawle brothers - the notorious smugglers who rule Penruan by intimidation and violence. Each one of the Lovedays must sacrifice personal ambition in the face of adversity. But to some of them, sacrifice does not come easily... What readers are saying about The Loveday Fortunes: 'Kate Tremayne's characters burst into life on the pages and are unforgettable' '[This series] should never end' 'Five stars'

Book The Foundling

    Book Details:
  • Author : Edward Moore
  • Publisher : University of Delaware Press
  • Release : 1996
  • ISBN : 9780874135305
  • Pages : 456 pages

Download or read book The Foundling written by Edward Moore and published by University of Delaware Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Finally available to modern scholars, this book is the first critical edition of these two plays by Edward Moore. The success of the initial run of Moore's sentimental comedy The Foundling (1748) was due in part to its cast, which included Susannah Maria Cibber and David Garrick, and the play continued to enjoy moderate success on the London stage. It remained popular among critics throughout the eighteenth century and was reprinted and performed regularly in the nineteenth. In the twentieth century, as the most important and the best sentimental comedy of the mid-eighteenth century, it has been generally accepted by literary historians as the bridge between the comedies of Colley Cibber and Richard Steele in the first part of the century and those of Hugh Kelly and Richard Cumberland in the last. The initial run of Moore's domestic tragedy The Gamester(1753), with Garrick in the title role, was also largely successful. From its first revival in 1771 to its last in 1871, the play was performed by Britain's finest actors and actresses - and performed more frequently on the London stage than any other Restoration or eighteenth-century tragedy." "Anthony Amberg's introduction discusses the sources and composition, production, publication and reception, and final revision of both plays. The text of The Foundling is based on Moore's holograph manuscript, that of The Gamester on the first edition. In both the author's spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and italicization have been retained, and both have been provided with full textual and explanatory notes."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
